Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I haven't posted in a long time (since I've moved to Florida), but not being a lightweight myself, I can assure you that you should have no problem with the rides at WDW. I actually have more of a problem with mobility issues and due to the way that the Space Mountain rockets are made, I am afraid of my hurting my knees climbing out.

Which brings me to another question. Has anyone been on Splash Mountain since they installed the lap bars? How is hard is it getting in and out of them with the bars now? I haven't been to the MK since January and it was closed at that time.

I weigh 276 now, still too much, and mostly in my belly. But I had no problems at Disney World, except getting worn out. lol

I hate clothes shopping as well, there's tons of skinny stuff and hardly anything for my size. Which you think would be a clue for the clothing industry!

I know I was worried about this when I wanted to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster. I simply asked the CM if she thought I would fit on the ride and she VERY kindly and understandingly said yes I would have no problem. I am very pooh sized.

so relieved

My husband and I went to Magic Kingdom and Epcot for our honeymoon back in February 2010 and I rode everything in both parks with no problems. At that time I was approximately 340 lbs, 5'6. I was obsessing about it prior to going even though I had read the allears.net articles and had even purchased the Open Mouse book. But I just got on everything there and pulled seatbelts all the way out prior to sitting like the articles said, and asked cast members if I would be okay to fit. I didn't have any problems with any of the rides at all. The plane seat was way worse than any ride at Disney. We have planned another vacation there this coming September with my family, and I have no apprehension at all! I'm so excited!

I am a big girl(trying to lose weight) I have had no problems with being on any of Disneys attractions. My biggest problem was at the airport. I had to ask for a seatbelt extion. I hated that .

My husband is 6'3" and Pooh Sized, and he has never had a problem getting on any ride and riding it. No one ever makes you feel bad at Disney either for being Pooh Sized, so don't worry about it. Disney is about having fun! So have fun!

the plane defentely is a different story. thats why when we go to disney we fly jetblue. the seats are much wider than other airlines (southwest and airtran), more cofortable, and they dont look at you like you like you have an arm growing out of your head when you ask for an extender.

I'm 5'4 and weigh 330 with all my weight under my breast and from my thighs up. I actually have small legs (calfs). We leave for our trip in 4 days and my anxiety is getting the best of me. I will ask for a seatbelt extender when I get to the airport. We are flying with Airtran. I haven't flown since 1995 (150 lbs. ago)

I went to allears.net and read the WDW at Large reviews, however, no one puts dates down when they went and I understand changes have been made. I think I read somewhere that lap bars were added to Splash Mountain back in February of this year. How do I know if any of the reviews I read have been written since then? I even have a plus size friend who went to Disney back in October 2010 and she tells me I won't have any problems but I told her about the changes I read and now she can't tell me for sure. Also, the enterence to the parks and some rides you have to go through a turn thing-a-ma-jig?

I'm so afraid of standing in line with my daughter and not being able to ride with her. She's alsmost 6 years old and love thrill rides. Lucky her, she's 49" tall and can ride pretty much everything at Disney.

Anyways, I found this thread but I see it began in 2005. I only read a few reviews from 2010. Has anyone gone this year that is plus size? I would love to hear feadback especially with roller coasters / thrill rides.

Thanks

You have nothing to worry about, really. Disney is extremely Pooh-friendly.

I know it's not about this year, but in January of '09, I was around 340#, 5'10", and almost all of my weight was in my prominent gut. (See the guy in the red shirt, below? That's me, during that trip.) Not once, on any ride, did I even feel SQUEEZED at all. I was a little worried about the lap bar on Expedition Everest, but even that ... it closed just fine, with no discomfort on my part at all.

The bars on Splash Mountain don't get in the way at all! I have yet to see a person at WDW who wouldn't fit. I had no problems, and I'm 5'6", 270.
