As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Nice sightings on KS even though it was somewhat of a speed right with your driver! Glad you got some photos of the giraffes! I remember baby Stella from my Caring For Giants tour last year and she has gotten big! Every time I go on this ride the lions never seem to be out, but you have better luck with this! I did not know there was an AP line to scan your MB.
All four parks have an annual passholder entrance that is usually much shorter than all the other lines. There is a sign outside these touchpoints that designated it as AP.

So neat about your great great grandmother! This exhibit was nicely set up and included so many interesting art pieces.
As we finished breakfast, we walked over to the restrooms near Festival of the Lion King, our next destination. Then we scanned our Magic Bands at the FastPass queue touchpoint and moved very near to the front of the line. Initially, the line was sprawled as it usually is, even though a cast member announces over and over to move forward and fill in all available space. Eventually, the crowd will move forward and fill in most of the available space, but today it was nice to have a bit of air moving around us since it was yet again hot and humid.
As we waited, we both noticed a few details we haven’t noticed previous trips. First, Luke looked up and asked if the beams in the photo below had always been there. I was pretty certain that I had no idea. I shrugged my shoulders, then took a photo of the beams.
As I brought the camera down, I saw a sign noting that the next section was an arts and crafts workshop. As you see in later photos, there were arts and crafts decorating the next section.
In truth, we both have noticed this building in the new section of Africa where Festival of the Lion King is located a number of times. But we still neither have any idea of what it represents.
Now on to the arts and crafts. I love the animal heads.
Looking back to the room we had just passed through, I realized that the art here was designed out of Coke cans. When I pointed it out to Luke, he told me that he had seen it before. This remind me of the giraffe made from Coke cans that June and her family bought me during our October 2016 trip.
A couple more arts and crafts photos. Isn’t the box with box with the bird interesting?
About 10 minutes before the show was to start, the doors opened and soon we were filing in with hundreds of other folks. We were seated in the elephant section, and I thought again that I would enjoy the show and leave the camera in my lap. But I couldn’t resist taking just a few more photos of my favorite live show at Disney World. My photos started with the animal floats that roll in first. No surprise that the giraffe gets two photos.
The camera came back out as the tumble monkeys climbed the stage. The last of the four photos is my favorite portion of the tumble monkeys’ routine, the monkey bridge that one of the monkey climbs to the top. Excellent team work!
Be prepared! Here is the dude who plays with fire in amazing ways.
I did take a break for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” because the lighting is very low and the birds are almost always in motion. But I couldn’t resist another photo or two of the finale with the lights up and everyone on stage exuding so much energy.

That's an odd looking building in Africa and wondered about it myself! I think I have a photo of it from my current TR. Glad you enjoyed the FOTLK show as I don't need to even mention this! I'm glad I finally got to see this amazing show on my last trip as I enjoyed it so much!
You got some wonderful photos of the queue, and the show!
It really is hard to keep your camera on your lap, isn’t it? It is almost instinctive to go for it when you see something photoworthy. I remember when we were in the backstage areas of the tour, I really had to fight the urge to grab for my camera!
I really need to start paying more attention to my surroundings while at WDW. There are so many details that I never notice. Glad you enjoyed FOTLK. I have only seen it once many years ago. DH could care less for any musical shows so we skip them altogether rather than seeing them by myself. I wish I had a friend or family member that loved WDW as much as I do. DH doesn't mind going, but I just don't think his heart is in it. It's more a quick/convenient destination to him where he doesn't have to drive at all and as long as we stay in a value it's not too hard on the budget. Bless him though for going as many times as we have. Hoping to convert my sister soooo bad! More please!
No doubt and will be a must on my next WDW trip for certain! Can't wait to see it again!

What great pictures of all the details in the building. We really enjoyed Lion King and hadn't seen it since our first time with the kids about 15 years ago.

It really is hard to keep your camera on your lap, isn’t it? It is almost instinctive to go for it when you see something photoworthy. I remember when we were in the backstage areas of the tour, I really had to fight the urge to grab for my camera!
I had the same problem on our train tour. It was only a short part there and back when we weren't allowed to photograph, but I saw several things I wanted that would have made great photos. I found my hand drifting to my camera. Oops! But I resisted.

Luke isn't fond of musicals except Disney's versions. for converting your sister.
