Islandgirl's March 2016 Disney Vacation! - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you got to see the show one more time! No single rider for ToT unfortunately maybe next time you'll be able to catch it with a shorter wait! There is a chicken exit so you won't have to wait in line alone
We took the boat over to Yacht & Beach Club and stopped at the Bayside Marina and rented a boat.
We had been talking about renting a boat and today was the perfect time. Peter picked a pontoon boat...love it! I seriously want one!!! It was covered, had comfy leather seats, and a stereo. It was so relaxing, one of my very favorite parts of the trip. We could go all around Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club, Swan & Dolphin, all the way to the dock at DHS and over to the bridge leading to Epcot. The fee is $45 per 1/2 hour and worth every penny!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
This will definitely become a new must-do at Disney!
A perfect day on the water! Once back at the dock, we walked over to Beach Club
and checked in for our 5:00 ADR at Cape May Cafe'.
We checked out the gift shop then got comfy in the lobby so Peter could charge up the phone. It wasn't long before we got a text that our table was ready. We were the first two to be seated for dinner and also to hit the buffet. We have eaten at CMC numerous times, but this meal was the best. It actually rated as one of our top meals of the trip!! YUM!! -- $85.20 or 2 TS credits + cash tip
I scheduled dinner extra early today because I had gotten us a Fast Pass for the viewing of Fantasmic back at DHS. We have only seen it one time, in 2010 with the boys, and it was so windy and chilly, that we were really too miserable to enjoy it. I thought tonight would be a good time to give it a second chance. We took the boat back over and had time to spare for our 7:35-7:55 p.m. FP window.
It had gotten chillier (or at least to us because of our sunburns), so we stopped and bought jackets and Solarcaine. We were now pushing our FP time and finally got to the FP entrance only to find out that we were 3 minutes late and the FP queue was now closed!
We filtered in anyway (a little disappointed) and were being told the whole way there that it was standing room only. Once we got to the stadium, we saw that there was plenty of good seating left, spotty, but good seats. We had great seats on the end of a row with a great view of the show.
We did enjoy it, but Fantasmic won't be a must-do every year.
As soon as we exited, we walked over to find a spot to watch the new fireworks "Symphony in the Stars". I had read about them, but didn't know they would be showing tonight. We found a bench near Hollywood & Vine until they started. I'm a sucker for fireworks!!
Afterwards, we made our way to the bus stop through the sea of people. There was a huge crowd waiting for the bus back to All Star Music, but we lucked out and got on the first bus.
Another great day at Disney in the books!! :O)

So glad to see that you're back finishing your TR! Sounds like you enjoyed your time boating around the Epcot resorts along with your dinner at Cape May Café! We haven't done Fantasmic in years but hope to on one of our upcoming trips. Glad you've got another Disney trip planned. Can't wait to hear all about it.
back! I'm so glad you are finishing this and that there is another trip in the future! The pontoon boat sounds like a fun way to spend an hour. Bummer that you missed your FP for Fantasmic, but glad you got to see the show anyway. It's not a must do for Luke and me anymore, but it is fun to see once every 4th or 5th trip.

Thanks for reading! Hope to finish before we leave for our next trip!!
Today was a NO park day...a FUN DAY! I had made an ADR for a late breakfast at O'Hana this morning, so once we got ready, we caught the bus over to Magic Kingdom. We then took the monorail over to the Polynesian and were seated 10 minutes later. I had breakfast here with Nathan on his Senior Trip, but this was Peter's and my first time doing breakfast together in Disney. It was DELISH!!!...and FUN!!!

Next, Horseback Riding @ Fort Wilderness
Peter wanted to do the horse trail again this year, so we headed to Fort Wilderness after breakfast. We took the monorail back to Magic Kingdom, then went over to catch the boat to Fort Wilderness. We had a short wait until our time to ride, but we headed over to The Circle D Ranch to hang out. I got pics before and after, but wish I could get some during the ride, but we have to store our phones, cameras, and bags in a locker while we ride.
Peter (again) got the good horse, I got Mick, the ornery one!!!!! I knew before we even left the pen that he was going to be stubborn! Needless to say, the CM in the back with me, had to finally get off of her horse and put a rope on my horse and lead me through the entire trail! :O( I was a happy camper though, and just went along with it, but I expected Mike to do a Hi-O Silver move and send me flying off at any moment!
cost: $92.00 (45 minute ride)
side note: two days later we got a call from the ranch saying they had credited our account for my horse ride ($46) due to Mick's bad behavior!
Day 5 - Monday 3/07/16 - Old Key West & Disney Springs
It was HOT today! We headed back over to the boat dock, but stopped in Trail's End to get a soda. We ordered two Cokes, and when we went to pay, they said no charge. Okay...Thanks! :O) We had to wait a few minutes for the boat, but were soon on our way. Our boat captain was in training (and you could tell) - but we made it safely back.
We had a dinner ADR at Olivia's in a few hours, but decided to jump on the bus headed to Old Key West now anyway, since we wanted to check out the resort.
e checked in and chose a table inside, but wish we had eaten on the deck because it was a gorgeous evening to dine outside. The rerstaurant was pretty empty, but the deck was full.
The bread was similar to the Pineapple Bread at OHana - so it was yummy! We both got the house salad....again, yummy! ...and for our app, we shared the Conch Fritters - with Key Lime-Mustard and Remoulade...and again...YUMMY!!!!!
Peter got the Grilled New York Strip Steak - served with mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, and a ragout of mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions....
I got the Seven Mile Sea Scallops - Marscapone Polenta, asparagus, Prosciutto Crisp, and Tomato vinaigrette .For dessert, Peter got the Banana Bread Pudding Sundae - served warm with Bananas Foster topping and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. I got the Key Lime Tart - with mango and raspberry sauce to go!
This entire meal was absolutely delicious!! We won't hesitate to return!
$85.17 or 2 TS credits + $27.70 OOP + cash tip
I suggested taking the boat over from Old Key West to Disney Springs (another new-to-us thing). The sun was setting and it was a gorgeous ride!
I love all the changes they have made at Disney Springs (what used to be Downtown Disney). It was buzzing with people, shopping, restaurants, and LOTS of live music. Tonight we would stay and listen to a sax player and a Latin band/ dance party! LOVE!!
We finally called it a night and caught the bus back to our resort. We had been on the go since morning, but had an awesome day!!
I ended up doing laundry that night (because I'm one of those weird people who can't stand bringing home suitcases of dirty laundry!).
