Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OH Kelly, I don't know about either of those. Small yes, but you still have quite a few things to stash in there. I know I'm on a Vera Bradley kick lately, but they have a small hipster crossbody that might be good for what you need.

Both styles look great, but the Banjees looks maybe a bit more versatile? I wish I could get away with just a wristlet, but can't seem to pare things down that much.
I was thinking the same thing as the second looks but very small. Just like Laurie I can't get away with a small bag. But my Kilimanjaro Safari backpack is great for now.

If it weren't for the boys I'd carry just the stuff I had to. I don't mind leaving their bags with the stroller as there won't be anything of 'value' in them.

Other sites say there's a pocket on the reverse side for id, cc, etc. I sure hope that's true!

I have a rather small phone - and camera now. The camera will probably be out all the time and I may actually put it on a lanyard. Ususally I just make Mike stick everything in his pockets but I have a feeling we'll be split up more this trip.
I do have a 31 bag I plan to use when we don't have to haul diapers with us, so that could be my backup.

The perpetual bag debate, does it ever end?
No! Never ever! Before kids I'd start the trip with a bag, then a smaller bag, and finally end up with nothing and make Mike carry everything. Isn't that why cargo shorts were invented?

I'm all about the small. At home all i carry is a wristlet. Unless I have Lukas - he requires more things.

This is David's job too! I usually will carry my ID and some monies (c/c, d/c or cash) and have David carry camera, phone, etc, anything a little more bulky.
I do believe that is why cargo shorts were invented.
I don't know that I could ever go with a bag that small and having it dangle off of my wrist would annoy me to no end. I usually go with a crossbody or the bagalinni messenger bag. I'm thinking I might go with cargo shorts next week.
I'm totally jealous on you being able to choose from such small stylish wallets! I love my big ol camera, so I have to carry a camera bag. I think I'm with everyone else - I like the Banjees.
Both look cool, but I think the Banjees look like it would fit more.
Very true.

Maybe I should just invest on more bottoms with pockets.

I just got a Canon Powershot for Chrismtas and I love that it's tiny enough to fit in my pocket, but still takes great photos!
I'll probably make a decision tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow what I've decided.
On Friday, the rest of the celebrities were announced for SWW and this is who will be there the weekend we’ll be there:
Jake Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker – Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace)
Silas Carson (Nute Gunray/Ki-Adi-Mundi – Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace)
(Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice talent – currently TBD)
Well, almost. I’m assuming they’re having trouble getting someone for the Clone Wars voice. Not sure – all other weekends are full. I’m going to hold out for Matt Lanter.
Not sure if anyone is overly excited about them, but Dylan likes ‘the kid’ aka young Anakin from Episode 1, so it might be neat for him to meet Jake Lloyd.
The weekend was spent with family celebrating Easter. Boys got way too much stuff and are spoiled rotten. For non-FB people here are a few pictures from the weekend:
Today I ordered a back-up battery for my camera for the trip and decided on the Phubby Sport wrist wallet. I got it in black – figured it would go with anything. I think the main things I’ll carry in it are my phone, all the cards (debit, room, AP, DVC, TiW, gift, etc) and some cash. I’ll have the digital camera and a small video camera (like a Flip), but those will be out most of the time anyway and when they aren’t Mike can carry them in his pockets. J
All the other things that are carried with small children will go in cinch top backpacks the boys got for Christmas. They match, but have their initials embroidered on them – each has a different color. In those I’ll pack an extra outfit inside a Ziploc bag, wipes, diapers for Lukas, snacks, and a cup. I did order these freezable wine bottle holders:
I plan to use them for possibly getting a bottle of wine to Disney but also to keep bottled water or sippy cups cold during the day.
Now I need to start figuring out the packing list, get the flight attendant gift bags finished, organize the carry on stuff, and order groceries. There’s more stuff, but that’s the main things.
Han Solo: Stay sharp. There's two more coming in. They're gonna try and cut us off. Luke: Why don't you outrun them? I thought you said this thing was fast! Han Solo: Watch your mouth, kid, or you're gonna find yourself floating home! We'll be safe enough once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers. We'll lose 'em.
[the ship shudders as an explosion flashes outside the window] Han Solo: Here's where the fun begins. Obi-Wan: How long before you can make the jump to light speed? Han Solo: It'll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer.
[the ship begins to rock violently as lasers hit it] Luke: Are you kidding? At the rate they're gaining...? Han Solo: Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star, or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it. Luke: [notices a flashing light] ... What's that flashing? Han Solo: [slaps Luke's hand away] We're losing a deflector shield. Go strap yourselves in. I'm going to make the jump to light speed.
[And so they do]

Great pictures from Easter. It's so fun to watch the little ones run around after eggs. How much egg dye got spilled at your house? My son spilled quite a bit. Not to mention his hands were blue for a few days. And where did you find those wine bottle cooler things? Brilliant for keeping sippies and such cool. And they're not too bulky either.
