As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Yes, the size of Sleeping Beauty castle is always a bit jarring! And I know what you mean about the entrance to Tomorrowland getting so congested because of how Buzz Lightyear and Star Tours are all right there together. When we were at DLR in June, it was just a few days after the opening of the re-furbed Star Tours, and the area was always super-congested! Of course, we were almost always heading that way to ride Star Tours but I can picture in my mind exactly what you mean!
How fun that you got to meet Goofy outside his new ride! And Sharon in her Santa Goofy hat is adorable! So glad you guys were able to meet up. Can't wait to hear about your lunch!

Just getting caught up! Sorry your trip didn't start off well with you being sick. I'm surprised by the state of the carousel, such a same, since I'm sure back in the 30's it was gorgeous. Glad you found your way to your hotel in Anaheim, and that you finally made it to Disneyland. I agree with you about the congestion in TL. Aside from waiting for my DSis and DBiL to ride Star Tours, we didn't spend anytime there because of how crowded it was.

Boy, you sure got in a good walking workout on your way to the entrance! Yes, the first sight of the castle is kind of like, wow, that's all? But then you have to keep in mind this was 1955, and therefore, it was one heck of a castle.

I didn't know you'd named your navigator LaTonya! That's hilarious! And you found me sitting on a bench enjoying my spiced caramel apple cider. That stuff was amazing! The state of that carousel is indeed sad. There was a horse from it on display in Disneyland that I'm pretty sure is still there (beautifully restored, naturally). The difference is striking.

Its amazing how much smaller DL seems! However it's mostly amazing!

I didn't spend any time at all in Tomorrowland--except for SM later in the week!

There is a horse on display at DL--I have a pic coming up later in my report! The day I decided to stay at see Mr Lincoln. I'm glad you enjoyed your cider! I was just happy to see you! Yes my navigator is Siri's less classy cousin LaTonya!

After we hit Goofy's Sky School, which by the way is a mad mouse attraction, much like Primeval Whirl in WDW--except that the seats are Pooh Size friendly. We headed over to the far side of DCA and hit the Monster's Inc dark ride, of which I neglected to take any pictures because I was trying to take in all the things that don't exist at WDW. It's a great dark ride. I feel like WDW is trying to gt rid of some of the classic dark rides and bringing in either great queue lines for dark rides or getting rid of them all together--Mr Toad is gone and Snow White is about to disappear!
In case you don't know Pooh killed two different attractions--it killed Mr Toad at WDW and Country Bears at DL.
Next we went to Muppets and the queue line is amazing!
I loved the queue for Muppets.
We hit the brand new Little Mermaid Ride next and I didn't take any photos because I was just enjoying the new ride--it is basically a dark ride that follows the plot of The Little Mermaid. I love the ride, but it needs one more room that explains how Eric kills Ursula!
After we finished the ride everyone was hungry--so Karen led us out of the parks into the Grand Californian to have lunch. Zack had a pizza, Karen had the kid's grilled cheese and I had a cheese burger. I'd be back to Roaring Waters a couple of more times during my stay. --Including breakfast the next day!
It's very cool to see the line for the Muppets, as we don't seem to have made it there on any of our visits - how weird that we've managed to miss it every time!
We have seen the Muppets at DLR, but for some reason I have no memory whatsoever of that amazing queue line! I'm glad you shared those photos so I'll remember to be on the lookout the next time we're there (37 days from now!).
Glad you enjoyed your lunch at Roaring Waters. Can't wait to hear about your dinner at Steakhouse 55! It's one of my favorite restaurants at DLR!
I, personally, love the DarkRides. My kids them b/c it's like their favorite movies are right there in front of them. I hope there will be Toontown pics to come.
