The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I hope you found the key!
I love the Osborne Lights, I finally saw them last year and they were breathtaking! The only downside was I felt I was being rushed and herded like a cow. I understand the one way thing, it would get crazy, but I felt like I needed to keep moving. I can't wait to get back to see them again. I think I will plan a late Nov trip though instead of the second week of Dec.
As we sat and ate that last Mickey ice cream,I knew the trip was over.I could have cried. It was the most fun Coop and I have had since we were here last, and it was over. What's next? The load up,and the long drive home.I was not looking forward to that.I wanted to stay another day, another week,another....forever.
One of the plays I crewed for"The Drowsy Chaperone" was one of the best plays the Guild has ever done. There was a very special man directing it,Paul Bruce. On the day of the last performance He gathered us all around and thanked all of us,and told us that "Special things have to end,so that they ARE the magic that you made."
That kept running thru my mind as we reluctantly trudged along the final night at WDW. I knew we had lives to return to.Babies at home that we missed dearly. Children watching those babies that have "held down the fort" for 2 weeks.
Patients,Doctors, and co-workers who were missing our skills.Bills to pay,wash to do...in other words,LIFE.
I am so sorry Coop that you had such a dissappointing stay at the BLT - those bugs alone would have turned me off as well, the picture of that wall, scary. I have to admit that the CR and BLT has never called out to me, I have heard people have wonderful stays there and eventually I would give it a shot for a night but it really is not on the top of our list by a long shot.
Wonderful meals however, the Lunch with an Imagineer sounded like such a great experience and the meal looked wonderful as well, I so love the Grapefruit Cake. You meal at the YS also looked amazing, we have always had such great service and meals here, I am so glad the food and Sam were able to put a smile on you and Chuck's face.

that lobster appetizer looks SO GOOD!!! glad your good meal made up for your transportation issues. i'm a huge fan of taking taxis in WDW when traveling between resorts, so i would have been super cranky! but then again, i'm often super cranky.
Great morning at MK. Not surprised about the key though. I had a bad feeling, but if it doesn't turn up, at least you have your keys. Good thinking on your part! Love the pictures of the Osborne Lights. It's probably my favorite part of the Holidays at WDW.

First off, our trips overlapped a little bit and we were at BLT as well (11/11-11/15)
We didn't notice the bugs as much, but maybe that's because we didnt use the pool very much? We also had a Mickey head on the bed as well as a couple of other towel animals...So I'm hoping that yours was a fluke?? I'm really sorry you guys had a bad experience there, though .
I'm glad you had a really good meal. I thought the key would get lost when you said that Chuck put it his pocket. I hope it turned up. the Osborne lights look really impressive. i saw them once many years ago before I went back to working in retail. Sorry about the bugs and that your rooms weren't the best.
Liz
That meal was the best of the trip! I am still drooling over that steak! We just LOVE Osborne lights.

Your food looks great! I too love Caesar Salad, it's one of my favorite foods period.
Glad your night was saved and you were able to enjoy the lights. I am looking forward to seeing them next year!
That meal was off the charts!

Stay tuned for key updates. The Osborne Lights are fabulous but you are right. It can feel kind of herd-ish.

Ok. So I read just this passage to a girl at work and she said "Where can I get a Chuck?" LOL. Sorry, Amber, he's mine! You are just too sweet for words baby.

Sam was terrific. That whole meal was awesome. The steak, the apps, the bread basket. Sorry - I'm now drooling. I really loved that wine too. Can't stop talking about it! Chuck just surprised me with an early Christmas present - he ordered 3 bottles of Conundrum and had it delivered to me and it just showed up today!

We chose BLT because it's our home resort and this was our first DVC stay. We will be going elsewhere next time. We love the location, but unless some things are changed it won't be high on our list to return - unfortunately. We did eat well. DxDP was def the way to go!

We thought about a taxi to take us to AK for the WAT because it was so early. But we made it with bus transportation. The YS meal was SOOOO good. I don't believe you are super cranky! I WAS getting ornery though.

Yeah - I just thought, what if I needed to get into the car with Chuck not there. Not what if we lose our key. Grrrr.

The bugs were kind of everywhere. On the wall by the elevator, on the balcony, as well as by the pool. What side of the building were you on. Maybe that had something to do with it? I'm hoping that it was just a fluke and that things get better.

Up before the alarm again, around 7:10. We showered and had coffee and tossed the room again looking for the darn key. No luck. We packed up the truck and went over to Concierge at CR for one last ditch effort to check the lost and found. They were very helpful but no key. We then took the monorail over to the GF for our breakfast at GF Café. Breakfast was ok but we were on edge because of the key issue and really just wanted to get going. Chuck had a frittata and I had eggs benedict.
They told us we had 10 TS meals left! Oh my! After breakfast we stopped and got some gingerbread from the gingerbread house in the lobby.
Then we headed out to the monorail. There was a huge line and we had two wait for the second train but we finally made it back to CR.
We then went to Fantasia market because we knew we had to cash in some snack credits. We had 10 snacks left! So we got a bunch of Rice Krispy Treat Mickey’s and some Chip and Dale pretzels (we love those) and some fruit. We asked them if we could trade our left over meals and they said “No”. Didn’t offer any other option - just no. They told us to eat a lot of meals but we said we were on our way home and couldn’t. So we went over to BVG to get some H20 shampoo, condition and shower gel. I also got some fleece lined Mickey Crocs! I saw a pastry case and asked there if they could do anything to help us with all these extra meals. They said they couldn’t there but we should go to Contempo Café. They would trade them in there. So we went over to Contempo Café where they said we could have 3 snacks for every TS credit. So now we needed to get 30 more snacks! We got drinks, fruit, chips, pastry, pretzels and of course Rice Krispy treats - dipped, not dipped, on a stick, not on a stick - you name it! So - 40 snacks in sturdy sacks in hand we made our way to the car to head off. At least we wouldn’t have to stop for snacks! We hit the bathrooms then hit the road.
It was about noon by now and we were driving through to Chattanooga. We did make a stop for lunch at a Chik-fil-A. We love it because they don’t have them up here in Michigan. We had an uneventful drive and made it to Chattanooga by 9 pm. We checked in at the Hilton Garden Inn and then went for dinner - Zaxby’s! We came back to the room and maybe had a Rice Krispy or Goofy’s Candy for dessert. Then we watched a little tv and fell off to sleep.
Tuesday 11/15
We woke up in Chattanooga to a severe screeching sound. Fire alarm? Nope, everything seemed ok. Hmmm? We didn’t know what it was but we weren’t going to hang around to find out. We got ready in a flash and made tracks. First words out of Chuck’s mouth were “Let’s get outta here” We stopped at a Starbucks and got some coffee and breakfast stuff and hit the road. The rest of the trip home was very uneventful as well. We did have a stone hit the windshield and put in a big ol’ crack. But that was it. We got home around 7 pm and we got everything out of the truck and gave out the gifts and souvenirs that we picked up for DS and his girlfriend. We ordered some pizza and spent some time with them. Naturally, we also got in a lot of loving from the babies. Even though we had a great trip, wonderful time with my love, in our favorite place, it was good to be home.
That is a lot of meal and snack credits leftover at the end of the trip! You all were in snack heaven after cashing them in. I was really hoping you all were going to find that key, too.

Oh you aren't kidding, Cam! We had snacks and drinks all the way home and then some! Never did find that key!
