Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report -1/2009 (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm so sorry to leave you in suspense- the past couple of days have been a whirlwind of planning and replanning to PERFECTION! (Okay not perfection, but to SUPER DUPER GOODNESS!)
When Disney released the newest discount for January through June, my TA emailed me the details (shout out once again to Michelle at MEI!) and I couldn't NOT jump on it! However, the Pirate and Princess Party dates were also released, and they were NOT having any parties in January- we'd be missing them by one measly month! Now, you all may remember that this is our first trip EVER to WDW, and I want to do as many things as possible and within my power... but that P&PP was something I'd wanted to partake in since learning of its existence on these very boards.
SO... after much revamping and rescheduling... Our January vacation is no longer in existence.
All that planning and scheduling, POOF! Gone in one email to my TA and one phone call to Dining reservations...
In its place is a bright NEW shiny vacation, and we are all in love with it!
Our new travel information is...
February 20 through March 1, 2009 at Port Orleans Riverside! Yes, we not only changed our dates but we will also be in the World for TEN DAYS! Talk about a VACATION! And upon check in Disney will be gifting us with a $200 gift card!
Change of date? Check.
Change of hotel? Check.
Change in length of stay? Check.
Decrease in cost of vacation. CHECK.
Free money from Disney? CHECK.
Party with the pirates and princesses? CHECK!
I found some treats while we were out shopping this weekend and thought I'd better share them before the pics disappear into the black hole that is my extensive photo archive!
Because Stasia is just barely too young (and shy) to do the BBB this year, I decided to have our own BBB at the hotel before MK one day- then when I walk into Target on Saturday what do I discover?
Disney Princess temporary hair color and tattoos! PERFECT!
Stasia has her Snow White dress for the P&PP, ... I don't know if Tanya will dress up or not, she's on the verge of that not being 'cool', you know. I think I'll probably look for a Silvermist costume for Lexi before we go, because she's a fair skinned dark haired fairy and Lexi will look adorable in blue!
But back to shopping.
I found these at Kroger, and though I KNOW it's early, it's one of those things that if I don't get it now I'll regret it in a few weeks!
Mickey candy canes!
We'll use them to decorate our gingerbread house (something we've done every year since I was a little girl), and of course for stocking stuffers and just generally to let the kids snack on through the holidays.
I also decided to go through my Disney box o' stuff which is housing all the purchases I've made for Christmas and Tink gifts in the coming months. I cannot believe how much is in there! I actually categorized everything and made a list so I'd know what I had and what I need to still get.
In the box there are:
Princess tattoos - 3 sheets
Princess hair glitter - 4 colors
Carabiner locks - 3 (for holding maps to the stroller, etc.)
36 glow bracelets
2 twisty glow necklaces
36 Princess storage bags
1 box of 1 gallon zip lock bags (to store the girls clothes by outfit for each day)
1 package of fusible printer sheets (for t-shirts I've not yet made!)
4 magic towels (just add water!)
4 ring pops (for Tink gifts or for car trip, should we end up driving)
1 small box of Mickey Kleenex
4 boxes of Disney Princess themed crayons
3 Disney gel pens
2 sets of purple barrettes for the little girls
1 package of Disney Princess wipes
1 Tink diary w/lock
1 Red Queen in teacup plush
1 Mad Hatter in teacup plush
1 Jasmine pez dispenser
1 Tink necklace
1 pair of Mickey PJ bottoms (for Kyle)
2 Disney Princess silver shrug sweaters (for the little girls)
2 Disney Princess woven shirts w/flowers (for little girls)
1 plush Belle doll
1 plush Ariel doll
2 Princess toy cell phones
1 Princess notebook (for Stasia to doodle in)
1 Princess swim suit (Stasia)
1 set of Ariel pj's (Stasia)
1 set of Belle pj's (Lexi)
10 assorted Disney shirts (for DH and the kids)
1 Princess puzzle type playmat (Christmas)
1 Alice in Wonderland counting book (Christmas)
1 set of chalk with Belle chalk holder (Christmas)
1 Belle figurine (don't know what I'm doing with this one yet!)
That's a lot of stuff and I'm not even close to being finished! I've got to hit up the Disney Store sometime soon and look for more t-shirts, etc.
Wow that is a lot of stuff. It sounds like you have everything organized. I hope I can be that way. Everything I have printed is scattered here and there. I keep saying I need to put it in a binder. Oh! I just thought of where the perfect binder is. Now I just have to put the stuff in there.

Oh honestly I'm so not very organized. Organized chaos, maybe! I do have a binder but I rarely touch it! I do so much of my planning online it's almost unnecessary except to store documents!
And I just got so excited because the UPS man came to the door with a package and I was just SURE it was my 2009 Passporter! But NO! It wasn't for me. Sigh.
I'm so anxious for that book to arrive! I've never HAD a Passporter before! Heck I've never had a REASON for a Passporter before!
I was suffering from a pinch nerve all the end of last week! I finally seemed to get past it around Sunday afternoon and ventured out for a little Tink gift and Christmas shopping, pictures to follow!
I was planning a huge Thanksgiving day meal here at the house as I always do, only to be asked to come to Tulsa to see my brother and his wife at their new house... so change of plans and we're driving 10 hours to Oklahoma next Wednesday afternoon to see the fam! I'm looking forward to seeing my nephews for sure. But my SIL isn't much of a cook... I tried not to pass out when, after I offered to bring pies or whatever she needed, she said we'd just either get what we needed pre made from the store or GO OUT TO DINNER for Thanksgiving... I've never done that! I've always spent two days cooking my tail off for the reward of a juicy brined Riesling basted turkey with cream cheese potatoes and sauteed green beans and pecan pie and pumpkin pie and...
I'm hyperventilating. But starting to become very interested in the adventure that this holiday is turning out to be! I LOVE a good adventure!
So I promised pictures of recent pictures, didn't I! It was Disney shop-a-palooza this weekend! I found a ton of little things for both Christmas and for taking to WDW in February (still so weird to be saying that).
I've had this one lone Belle figurine from a dollar store visit months ago, but with four kids that just wasn't going to cut it! Then I found these little guys which will completely cover my boy child and the babies!
Then I found an Aurora pez dispenser to match the Jasmine one I'd already found, one each for Tanya and Stasia!
An oh, joy! More ring pops! These are so cute, the kids will LOVE them!
And of course I had to get two more twisty glow sticks! These are too cool.
But these... THESE are going to be great for the night of the Pirate and Princess party!
Then over to Target where you never know what you'll find...
Like Princess wrapping paper!
Or Princess lollipop cases! Now we'll be able to save those lollipops from a sticky, messy existence when after being half used each of the girls decides they've had enough till later!
Then I found something I want to use for Christmas dinner: Candy cane shot glasses!
No, not for actual shots! They'll make great 'cups' for this mousse I want to try making and the kids will love the little edible containers!
After unpacking our loot and storing it away till later, I realized how strange it was to be in the Christmas spirit and still have Thanksgiving to muddle through! That's when I decided... The heck with it! If losing my mother has taught me anything, it's that life is to be LIVED. I make my own rules and I can break 'em! So rather than waiting until after we got home from Tulsa to decorate for Christmas, I decided we would start NOW. The whole family was thrilled! (Next weekend is our wedding anniversary and I did NOT want to be doing this during that time- it'll be so fun to have it all decorated before we leave and after we get back!)
So down came the boxes and the trees- we set up one 'mom' tree in the living room (which I get to decorate prettily and however I wish) and one 'kid' tree in the dining room upon which goes all the school and personal ornaments for the family. The kids decorate that one themselves and they love it!
While we were going through boxes, Kyle busts out laughing and tells me he found a little tin box with old Christmas candy in it and tells me to turn around- in his hand he's holding this:
The chocolates had fused together over the year in the attic and formed a Mickey head!
Tatiana helped me decorate my tree... this year it was a white, blue and silver theme (which will look more in sync with the room once I change the wall color again!):
My bird topper
And my martini glass ornament
Last but certainly not least I had to share this insight into the mind of my child with you.
After Kyle finished decorating the kids' tree he called me into the room and showed me this, and asked me to guess what it was:
I said a bird's next, naturally. Apparently I was only half right though. He then went into a stand up comedy routine about it being my 'empty nest' until the time comes when I have one for real.
It was very genuine and sweet. I can't imagine why he thinks I'm looking forward to having an empty nest though...

I just found your trip report this morning and have thoroughly enjoyed reading it!!! I can't believe how many changes you've gone through since you first started planning. I enjoyed seeing all your Disney purchases and love your countdown calendar. Your family must be sooo excited for this trip with all your Disney introductions you've provided. The dinner/movie night was such a great idea and I've copied the recipe for the Bread pudding and hope to make it for my family soon. I look forward to reading the actual trip report when you return.

I'm glad you found me! I can't believe how many changes I've made either... I think it's because I'm trying to make it the best first trip I possibly can, which of course means every time Disney changes something, so do I!
The bread pudding is AWESOME!
