The Walt Disney World/Disneyland Double Dip Trip! - UPDATED 7/11 w/FINAL THOUGHTS - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After Star Tours, I wanted to see if I could find the Incredibles. Helen wasn’t around, but I did find Bob. I couldn’t help but think of Dawn, and how she can’t cop a feel without it being obvious! And that’s all I’m saying about that!
We still had some time before our VOTLM FPs, so we headed in to see One Man’s Dream. Of course I took tons of pictures.
I took so long looking around that we didn’t have time to watch the film before our VOTLM FPs. We headed to the VOTLM theater and enjoyed the show.
By this time, we’d done everything we wanted to do, so we decided to head over to AK. But I still had the TOT on my Dream FastPass, so I wanted to use that before we left. Unfortunately, the ride was having difficulties. The FP line was all the way down to the gate, and the CM estimated that it would be 40 minutes on the FP line. So I wouldn’t get another ride today. In retrospect, I’m glad that I still have the TOT tab on my Dream FastPass.
When we got to AK, we spent a little time watching animals in the Oasis.
We didn’t have much of a plan. I wanted to see a few characters and hopefully get in a ride on Everest. DM & DF wanted to see FOTLK. So we headed to Camp Minnie Mickey. We had good timing because the next performance of FOTLK was only 10 minutes away. That also meant that the lines for the character greets are at their shortest, so they headed into the theater and I went over to see the characters.
First up was Donald. Donald usually gives me a hard time because I often have Mickey on my shirt or Mickey ears or something, but today I was safe.
Then I visited my man Goofy.
Up next was Miss Minnie.
When the CM handed my camera back to me, the strap caught on his finger and CRASH! Yup, my camera hit the pavement. The lens was open, and now it was stuck open. I really loved my camera and my heart’s pounding right now just thinking about it. The CM, who was a character handler, not a PhotoPass CM, was very apologetic and went and got his supervisor.
We explained what happened, and she called her manager in Guest Relations and explained what happened. She told me to go to Guest Relations and ask for her manager. On the walk to GR, I checked my camera. I could still see all the pictures I’d taken so far (445) so it wasn’t a total loss. At GR, I explained again what happened. The CM took the model number of my camera and they offered to either give me cash or credit my credit card for the replacement value of my camera (or actually what is the current model of my camera, since mine isn’t made any more). I had her credit my card, and she gave me a map showing where the Best Buy was.
I was supposed to meet my parents in front of Everest, but I knew their show was letting out any minute, and I really wasn’t in the mood to ride it anyway. I sat down in front of the Tree of Life and waited. When I saw a big crowd coming my way, I knew the show had let out, and I watched for DM or DF. I found them and explained what happened.
I started to cheer up a bit after that, especially after I pointed out the super cute cotton top tamarinds that are in front of the TOL and DM snarkily replied “take a picture.” I guess laughter really is the best medicine. We decided to go in and see ITTBAB before heading out.
We had an ADR at Boma for dinner, so I drove over to the AKL. After DM and I stayed here last October, it has become our favorite resort. DF had never been, so we were eager to show him around.
We enjoyed looking around the lobby, then we went out to Arusha Rock. We started chatting with a couple of CMs there, who asked about when the best time would be to visit NYC. DM mentioned that we were here for Botswana’s Independence Day and we’d enjoyed the ceremony. One of the CM’s (whose name I don’t remember) told us she’d danced at the ceremony.
It was almost time for our ADR, so we headed to Boma. I checked us in and we were buzzed almost immediately. I’d eaten at Boma before, but this was a first for DF & DM. We had a table overlooking the pool, which I enjoyed a lot. We all enjoyed the food and made little piggies of ourselves. DM wants to eat at Boma on every trip now, and I’m certainly not going to argue with her about it!
After we rolled out of Boma, I drove us home and we all watched some TV before turning in. The next morning was to be a shopping morning, with an unscheduled trip to Best Buy.

Sorry to hear about your camera , hopefully you got a replacement. I just love reading your trip report and all your beautiful photos. Keep it up. I can't wait for the next installment.
At least you get a new camera! When we went, Pat was taking pictures with MY camera, and dropped it on the ground. The pictures were okay, but the lens cover is all funky now. And he didn't offer to replace it either, I just flick it with my finger to get it closed or open all the way now!
Registered Message Board Members save 30% off PassPorter guidebooks! When you register you'll have access to a discount coupon good for 30% off the list price of PassPorter books in our online store.
Sorry about the camera, but how Disney made it right! Most places would tell you "your own risk" or refuse to use the camera in the first place! And you didn't lose your pics!
Wow, Sharon, I am glad disney came thru on the camera disaster...hope you were abl o find a suitable replacement.
Glad DF enjoyed AKL as much as you and DM.

I am so glad that Disney could care of replacing your camera. That is amazing that they took care of it so quickly for you. I am also glad that you still had your pictures intact!!
Like everyone else, I am so glad you were able to recover your pictures. And that amazing Disney customer service is one of the things I absolutely ! So cool that they didn't try to mail you a check, or something like that. Instead, they offered an immediate resolution. Disney!
