Please Help = too big for the rides ??? - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have that same question. DH and I are pooh sized and we want to spend one day at WWOHP. We have no trouble at Disney, but I'm kinda worried about IOA.
I do know that DH went to Universal 2 years ago and rode Simpsons with no trouble. There were several other things he rode, but I have forgotten what they were. He is 6ft 4 and 400 lbs. Hopefully while they were building WWOHP, they kept in mind that "Everyone" would want to participate.
Just my 2 cents... I am 315# and 5'6 wear a size 30, I have really no problems at Disney; but lots of problems at universal. Simpsons and Jimmy Neutron very tight, but doable. Theatre style seating like shrek very tight. My husband went on MIB and it was tight for him, he said no way I would fit. ET on bike unbearable, but went back thru on bench seat and it was fine. jaws fine. Dr Seuss elevated train, molded seats moderately uncomfortable, need to sit by self, woody woodpecker no problem, seuss carousel and red fish/blue fish no problems, cat in the hat no problem. Staff definately not as well trained or sensitive as disney ie, not suggesting a bench seat at ET, stuffing some poor lady not in my party in with me at seuss train. I had a good time, but definately not the disney experience.

On a the roller coasters like Hulk and Dueling Dragons (or whatever it is called now) they have a row of "larger" seats for the pooh sized among us, just ask for them or they may direct you towards them before you have a chance. I had to use them on my first trip there. The team members were nice, but truly not as sensitive as the Disney CMs, of course the fact that I was with one of their team members may have helped....I have a friend who works for US.

OMG - He's sooooo grown up!!!! And an EAGLE SCOUT!! I can still remember my cute little Tiger Cub! 2016 Reading Goal - 75 books
I just love this thread - glad I'm not the only person that worried about this!!! Before we went to WDW - I researched the weight limits. While in Dollywood (TN) my DSis had an embarrassing moment when the thing wouldn't fit over her.
She had to leave the ride - ( I am so glad I sat that ride out or I would had the
same episode ) We didn't have any problems in WDW at all - and we all vowed
we're going to lose some weight before our trip in November - lost 10 lbs so far....only 71 lbs to go.....
Well, that certainly dampens MY enthusiasm (5'10", #310, amlmost ALL of my extra weight carried in my stomach and hips) for going to Universal on our next trip.

well remember, it's only that one ride at WWoHP...
apperantly they have tester seats out front, but they are DIFFERENT than they seats actually used in the ride, meaning you might fit in the tester, but the one's inside are smaller. how stupid is that?!
I was Poohsized until gastric bypass two years ago and never had a problem with any of the rides at Disneyland (46 trips) or Disney World (1 Trip) My trip to DW was two years ago right after I had the miracle of Gastric Bypass and I had no problems at all. I was probably 240 at the time and 5'7". At Universal Studios I was OK except for getting mighty sick on the Simpson's Ride
I'm counting the days down until July 28th when I fly off 5 hours East and South!!!

This is why I boycott Universal. The steroids I take for my medical conditions make weight loss extremely difficult. I need the steroids to function. I wish I didn't, but it's a fact of life. The side effect from the medication is weight gain. I try hard to watch what I eat and exercise, but I'm still fluffy.
However, I appreciate when companies such as Disney take into consideration that folks are made in all sizes, big and small, and there needs to be an attempt to accommodate all persons regardless of size.
Universal should have done better at making their park accessible for all guests, not just an elite few.
I was actually considering giving some of my money to Universal to tour Potter, but not after reading that article.
Shame on you Universal. You're definitely not universal for me.
There is never a problem but a tip that is useful is if the ride has like car seat belts is to pull it out to full extension before setting down and you do not have to worry about trying to get it fastened in a short period of time. Just from experience it works the best for use larger individuals. Do not feel bad as Disney is one of the best places that consider use larger individuals.
About 15 years ago DD10 and I were staying at the Disneyland Hotel and she wanted to do the paddle boats in the lagoon. When we went to get one they apologized profusely, but said I was to "heavy" (I weighed 255) for them. That set in motion years of being afraid to try rides in the parks. I'm so happy and "proud" that Disney has become conscious that not everyone is one uniform size. Now if only the airlines would also get a grip................
In 2008 it was a tight squeeze for me on the Rockin Coaster at WDW Hollywood, but I managed. My legs were almost to my chest and I was in the back seat.
I'm so glad I found this thread! I am going in May and am trying to lose as much weight as I can before then, but it's good to know that I won't be horribly miserable.
I am 5'9" and about 290 pounds. Not exactly proud of it, but it is what I'm working with lol. I haven't been to WDW since 2007 (was about 255 pounds then) and I fit fine on everything. I was at 315 on January 1st so I am going in the right direction but I still want to lose another 40 pounds before we get there on June 6th. I had the embarassment of going to Six Flags in St. Louis and not being able to ride the Batman Rollercoaster because I was too big. It makes you feel pretty bad about yourself. For better or worse America is getting bigger. All industries need to realize this, not just theme parks. I hate when I go into Kohls to buy pants and there are 400 pairs of 30" or 32" waist jeans and I have to go on a treasure hunt to find the chubby guy pants lol. Ok, of my soapbox now. Great thread though. No one should ever have to feel bad about themself at the happiest place on earth!!!
