the EIGHTEEN years, TEARS, CHEERS & Hurricane FEARS TR - Page 15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I would have been so infuriated....and the fact that once approached she still had nerve to keep going and still try to cut the line. I commend you on not punching her once just for your satisfaction....
It REALLY did take bit of decency I had in me NOT to BOP her one! She was really making my blood boil!

Trust me the cursing was there (in my head!) And after years of working in a level one trauma center ER, and dealing with crazy people all the time, RUDE doesn't scare ME!

We probably did pass eachother... maybe more than once the way we wondered around "not" doing anything! More updates soon...

Thanks!! There was Definitely some Disney Magic that night! Even Grumpy was smiling - well as best he could - he pierced his lip a few days before we left and couldn't really smile very well. Of course the piercing was gone after 2 weeks because of a new job he started, but I know he's smiling!

Over all, evil woman included, things are definitely started to look up!
I am so glad you were able to get your Family Picture taken. With the castle in the background at night... how magical. Everyone is smiling. I can see why the night was magical for you.
Can't wait to read more.

Great update, TMH! Regarding Toy Story Mania... they've now discontinued the single rider line. And the fastpass line still merges with the regular line as you go up the stairs. The other way to TSM cars is just for special needs guests now. For a new ride, it is an odd set up. I'm not sure why they can't just send FPers up the other side of the stairs? No clue why not.
Great update, Karen! Love that you confronted that woman--the nerve!
Dinner in Italy sounds delicious!
Glad to hear the family harmony has been restored.

We decided to hit the back of the park first since the line for SM was pretty long. We headed through Cinderella’s castle, having our wrist bands checked as we passed, and... WOW!!! The Mosaic was Incredible! Even Grumpy thought it was beautiful! We were so caught up in the sight I didn’t even think to pull out my camera, so no pics. We didn’t stop in Fantasyland as the boys had no interest in any of the rides there. That was ok with me, because I knew Alicia and I would have plenty of time for Fantasyland on our girls only trip!
Somehow we managed to find our way to Haunted Mansion, even though it was dark, and we had no map, and I had NO CLUE where were going! There was NO line. I mean absolute WALK ON. I actually made everyone stop for a minute to LOOK at the grave yard! The boys thought that was pretty cool! It was a little weird though when we were getting on our doom buggies though because they were saying “three in a buggy please” over and over and there was hardly ANY one in there! I mean EVERY person in there COULD have had their own buggy and there STILL would have been NO wait! OH well. The boys rode together and Alicia Jeff and I squished into one doom buggy. If my be-hind wasn’t so wide, it would have been fine, but we were a little squished. That’s ok. I’m a bit of a chicken!
This ride really CREEPED me out! I did this when I was 12 and came to MK with my grandmother. It was just the two of us and Disney was JUST the MK. It was my second favorite ride (space mountain was #1!). So I thought I would absolutely LOVE it, but It CREEPED me out! Like I was SCARED! Of course it didn’t help that Jeff kept screaming like a little kid having a nightmare! (He wasn’t scared!) It was A LOT of fun, even being totally CREEPED out by the whole thing. We could have easily gone on again as there was still no wait, but the kids wanted to move on, which was FINE with me! We were all laughing coming off the ride (even though my heart was racing a million miles an hours from fright!) This was definately a blast for the whole family!!
We wondered around in the dark some more and found our selves outside of Pecos Bills I think. At this point my thirst mechanism kicked into high gear and I swear I think I almost passed out from feeling dehydrated (sort of a running theme for me)! Jeff stood in line at a litlle snack shop to buy water for everyone while Alicia and I hit the ladies room inside. He was STILL waiting when we came out, but not for long. And thank goodness! My water was gone almost as fast as the bottle got opened! I couldn’t believe how thirsty I was!!
Moving right along we managed to find our way to BTMRR. Now Here is where the BIG Debate happens. Does Corey Ride or Doesn’t he? I tell him I’ve been on this one before and I don’t think it is as bad as EE. Evan (thankfully) decides to stay out of it. Jeff decides to not ride. Alicia tries talking Corey into riding. So we stood around for about 5 minutes going back and forth. Corey ALMOST comes but at the last minutes decides not to ride and waits with Jeff instead. So Evan Alicia and I head over to get in line. There is a CM at the beginning of the line checking wrist bands and there are a couple of ladies in front of us just standing there. They are NOT showing him their wrist band. They are not doing anything. JUST STANDING blocking the entrance, and there is plenty of room ahead of them so it is obvious they are NOT in line. There is a small opening so I go past them lifting my wrist for the CM. Alicia and Evan follow suit. Then APPARANTLY I am an EVIL line cutter because the third person in their party CATCHES up to them and they very loudly say to her something about me cutting in front of them while they were standing there waiting for her! OK… Um… I sort of feel bad. BUT if you are waiting for someone to catch up to you, don’t BLOCK the entrance!!! True, the lady catching up was not that far behind, but two OTHER people came in behind Evan and Alicia before the blocking people did! I feel bad. I didn’t know that rule about line etiquette. I guess if you are waiting for someone in your party who walks slow you are supposed to block the line and hold everyone else up to wait for them because you can walk faster! YUP I’m evil all right!
Oh well. I got over it pretty quickly! Alicia and I rode together and Evan rode behind us. When we got off, he said “I don’t think Corey would have liked that!” I just laughed! It was a great ride. I tried to talk everyone into POTC but no one really wanted to go on, so we headed back to Tomorrowland. Again, it was a lot darker in the park than I expected. I know it is night time, but I would have thought it would be a bit more lit up. The ambience was nice, but it was disorienting. Somehow we ended up coming back along the side of Cinderella’s castle. (I think there is a bridge out?) It’s a weird path I’ve never been on before. The strange thing is there was a CM at the end of the path checking our bracelets as we went back into the hub in front of the castle. BUT it was really DARK and our bracelets were dark gold so it was hard to see them. Some of the bracelets were bright green and those were easy to see. I thought it was weird to be checking them there, since if we were LEAVING the park, that is how we would have to go to get out. Oh well. STRANGE check point aside, we made it through the weird sidewalk beside Cindy’s castle and headed back to Tomorrowland.
The wait time for SM was listed as 20 minutes. We grabbed FPs for later and jumped in line. Well it was more like 50 minutes, but so worth it!! We got on the Blue (I think) - left side first. What a great ride!!! I LOVE this ride! And best of all, Corey and Jeff loved it too! A little weird since neither of them like roller coasters! Our FP return time was split 3 of them for 01:55 and two of them for 02:05. After we returned to earth from our first SM trip with laughter in check, Alicia made a pit stop for some Cotton Candy at the gift shop. YUM…not! EWW OK the kids loved it, but gross. I can not eat cotton candy at 1am! No Thanks~ All sugared up and ready to go, we head over to Buzz Lightyear. The wait wasn’t too terrible. I think it was about 40 minutes. To pass the time I started chatting a little girl in line behind me. It was fun to find out they were from RI (not far from us) and it was her first trip. She thought it was neat that it was the boys first trip too!
Our trip to fight off the evil ZURG went pretty much as I expected. The boys rode together. Alicia and I rode together and Jeff rode alone. I was annihilated. I think I had a bum gun though because I only got a score of 1700. COME ON!! I think even a TWO year old can do better than that!! I know I’m BAD at this game but really …1700!!! The kids (especially Alicia) LOVED this game! Anything competitive! The pictures were funny, but not funny enough to purchase, so we moved on.
It was almost time for our FP to ripen so we just hung out by SM. The kids didn’t want to ride anything while we waited since it was about 01:53. I told the boys we would wait till 2:05 so we could all go together, but they really wanted us to go ahead. This went back and forth for a good five minutes. NO just go ahead. NO we’ll wait. NO go ahead. No we’ll wait. …
Anyway, by now it’s 02:00 so Jeff Alicia and I jump into line. The boys are not too far behind, but I think they REALLY just wanted to ride alone! It was while waiting for this second ride that something horrible and funny (but in a bad way that you shouldn’t laugh at, but you can’t help it because it’s funny) thing happened.
up next... what made us laugh at SM at 2 in the morning...
Awww...don't leave me hanging like that. With all the sugar from the cotton candy and the lack of sleep, I probably would be laughing at anything at 2 am.

Ok… sorry to keep you hanging on that cliff!
First of all I have to preface this with I am really NOT an evil person. I KNOW it was WRONG to laugh at this. Just like it is wrong to laugh when someone falls down and gets hurts, but you just can’t stop yourself from laughing. Remember it is now about 02:20 in the morning and I have been up since 08:30 the morning before!
Here we go…
Jeff Alicia and I are in line about 10 people or so back when a family with a Very Pooh sized mom are loading in to the rockets. Dad, and Jr get into seats 3 and 2 while mom is trying to get into seat #1. She steps in with her left leg and sits down before stepping in with her right leg. But because she is so Pooh sized, she can not get her right leg into the rocket and it is sticking out, up on top of the front of the rocket. The CM is standing there with his jaw wide open just staring at her. Another CM tells her “ma’am you can’t ride with your leg out like that” in a very nice voice. We were all just standing there with our jaws a bit slackened, not quite knowing what to do when the woman yelled at her husband “I’m STUCK! Come up here and HELP ME!” The dutiful husband got out of his seat, grabbed her leg and jammed it into the rocket . The Dad climbed back into his seat and off they went. EVERYONE in the room just started snickering, including the CMs who moments earlier were all slack jawed. Then the entire room broke out into laughter.
We had another great ride! When we came to the end however, our rocket sat on the track for several minutes. Just sitting there. Waiting… Waiting... Waiting… We over heard someone say, “they must be prying her out now”. And more giggles broke out! Yes I know it was mean to laugh at the poor woman, but I did warn you! Now I do feel somewhat bad for laughing, but it’s not so much that we were laughing AT her, but at the whole situation. The CM’s facial expression trying to figure out what to do was probably the funniest thing of the whole situation! A wide eyed, very puzzled “oh dear, do I grab the ladies leg or not” look. Plus his look of SHEER RELIEF when her husband got out and helped her!
By the time we got off SM and waited for Corey and Evan (who also witnessed the whole thing even though they were about 20 people behind us) it was about 02:30 am. The kids wanted to ride Buzz Lightyear again. No wait at all this time. Everyone had their own car and I did much better! Definitely it was the trigger mechanism last time because I scored around 34,000. I don’t remember exactly, but I was pretty happy even though everyone else still kicked my butt!
There was still NO wait when we got off and the kids wanted to go again. UGH. I was ready to go. So we told them ok one more time and Jeff and I plunked ourselves down on a bench to wait for them. Even though there was no wait, it seemed to take forever for them to come out! But they came out laughing and having a great time! We were all pretty whipped at this point and it was 02:50 am so we headed to the front gate. We went to the bus stop where there were only a couple of people waiting and got in line. Here, as usual we waited FOREVER for our bus back to the Beach Club. One of the Cms asked where we were heading and ended up using the radio to call for a bus as several of the other resorts had SEVERAL buses come and go and still NO beach club bus! Typical for our entire trip! We FINALLY got a bus and got back to our room at 03:50! No bedtime fights tonight, everyone just collapsed into bed!
