As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...Day 3, Part 5, 3/12
One night during our big family vacation, just my 2 sisters and I went to PI for the evening. They had never been to the AC before, and I had told them that it was a very elegant place for a drink. We walk in, we are almost the only ones in that main room, and the big mask on the wall is talking to one of the CMs about how tacky the clothes were on the people who had just been in the room. You should have seen the look on my sisters' faces!

I LOVE AC and Babalonia. We discovered AC a couple of trips ago so now each trip it's part of the agenda! Glad you had a good time.

She mentioned what an attractive and desirable man my father must be to be able to bring his wife and his mistress to Florida with him.

How funny! I've just GOT to get Hikie to go to the AC with me. But I'm afraid that my days of being mistaken for a mistress under 21 are definitly OVER :sigh:

Re: The age of the child in your party? Uh, 34...Day 4, Part 1, 3/13
Ah, Babalonia, that's her name. For the life of me I couldn't think of it, I could hear her voice but not think of her name. Dad was a good sport and I think they really enjoyed themselves.
On to Day 4. I was up around 6:30 and headed out for my last Florida run. I really wasn't supposed to do this one until tomorrow, but I'll be back in NY tomorrow and I have a race the next day and as much as I didn't really feel like it, I knew I would feel less like it once I was standing the freezing air surrounded by snow. So I went. I noticed the other day that OKW was really nearby and decided to run over there, taking my life in my hands on very un-pedestrian friendly roads. I took a left out of POFQ and a left at the first light, less than 1/2 mile from the parking lot. Then OKW is on the right. I headed in and quickly found myself on a lovely paved path. I soon realized that this was the cart path for the golf course, but I didn't see any signs telling me to keep out, so....
Not for long anyway, within a few minutes I ran by a sign that said "no jogging, no strollers, no walking on the course". What does that mean? Does it mean that I can't be ON the course, but the path is okay? Does it mean I can't be on the path? And frankly, I'm not really jogging out here, I prefer to call it running, especially when I'm going pretty quickly. I decide to keep going and that I'll get off the path if anyone says anything to me. The course and the path wind through and around the villas. These are really lovely, I would totally stay here now that I've seen them. Lots of older folks out eating their breakfasts on the balcony, all waving to me, none yelling "get off the course". There are no golfers, I don't know if its too early or too wet from last nights rain. Many land scapers, no golfers.
I get to what I guess is the back of OKW and there is a paved walking path (not golf cart path) to Saratoga Springs. I take that path, go by the tree houses and along the river that goes to PI. I end up by the first hole of the Buena Vista Golf Course, the course I assume that I was running on before. I head over this little bridge that has a sign that says "No jogging past this point". I "jogged" over the bridge and into the parking lot of the golf course. I guess it was time to turn around, I'd come to the end of nicely marked paths. I don't know why I wasn't supposed to jog, but instead walk, past the bridge, but whatever.
I turned around and headed back to OKW on the same path, this time detouring off onto the golf course cart path again. Still no golfers, so I figure I get in a few more steps. I end up back at hole one, but this time I hear the whack of golf club hitting a golf ball. I beeline it to the appropriate path and head out again. I know I can run faster than people play golf so I just followed the same path out as I did in, again all waves, no yelling.
As I left OKW I noticed a dirt road on my right, and sort thought (using some mental geography) that this might be the same dirt road I noticed in the POFQ parking lot. So I ran it. Its short and it doesn connect the two more safely than the road, that is if you consider running alone on dirt roads in the woods safe. I pop out near the end of the POFQ path and take that up to POR. At POR I decide to run on the access road around the resort because its longer. The route isn't as pleasant as my earlier route, but I do see other runners out here. I went all the way around then did a loop on the running path at POR and when I got back to building 7 it was 10 miles. I averaged a nice 8:45 for the run, and felt good and hungry!!
Last night we had decided to head to Chef Mickey's early today because we wanted to get lots of time at Universal before I left. I originally had a late PS (11AM) but we were packed and ready to leave the the room at 9. Dad had to stop at the desk to pay for his one internet connection phone call and then we were off to the CR. At CR the guard was like they have been lately, really looking you over and making sure you are on the list. He was fine with the fact that we were early and said that we probably wouldn't have a problem getting a table.
He was right. We had a table in about 5 minutes. We opted to skip the picture, Mark wasn't with us and its sort of tradition now I guess to get the picture of the four of us. Dad didn't even bring the camera in! I think we are here for the buffet part more than anything else today. We had a fine waitress and did meet many characters, but more importantly I ate biscuits and gravy, cheese omelet, a waffle, a couple of pancakes, lots of bacon, some fruit and cottage cheese, some M&Ms, more biscuits with gravy, peanutbutter and jelly pizza, and a donut. Man, I'm going to explode!! There were, of course, lots of kids and we always get a kick out of seeing their reactions. We also reviewed our trip a little. Mom said her favorite part was during Spectromagic, when the dwarves stopped and said hello. She said that Crabby the Dwarf came right up to her. Crabby? Didn't you know there was an 8th? Yeah, his name is Crabby. Dad and I laughed for quite awhile before we could correct her. "Its GRUMPY, Mom"
Then I stole some bananas for the plane ride home and Crabby, Dad and I headed out to Universal.
