Major pixies needed please [updated 4/3, post #306] - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

POA in my state becomes valid WHEN the person becomes incapacitated or disabled. It can be revoked anytime prior.
It shouldn't have to be approved although if you are dealing with an out of state corporation, they may request their legal staff make sure it complies with their state requirements, too.
You shouldn't need a power of attorney to speak on someone's behalf, just permission, again it varies by state.
Hope Lenny continues to improve! Good for you, on keeping after that letter--stinks they couldn't have just done it right the first time (and a lot quicker).
The medical leave extension sounds like good news, too. I hope all of you can have happy holidays.

I was hoping we would have a "Christmas miracle" in the form of Lenny walking without any support. Needless to say, it hasn't happened. We had yet another follow up with the doctor today who once again stressed that Lenny needs to do work at home too - which I know he has been doing - but upon further questions and manipulation of Lenny's leg, it turns out one of the things PT has not been doing has been working on range of motion for Lenny which the doctor admitted will affect when he will be able to get off the crutches. I asked the doctor if we could get that all in writing and he said "of course and I'm going to write a new presciption too for the therapist."
I know Lenny is getting closer. He's been doing steps here and there without the crutches but he just can't do many and he does a really good job of walking "normally" with the walker but PT said "I don't wan't you using the walker as that's not progress." He walks better with the walker than he does with the crutches but what do I know? I only see how he walks with each and he walks with the walker but takes a step and stops with the crutches then takes another step, He has also been able to do the stairs just holding onto the railing - he doesn't need the crutches to go up or down anymore.
Lenny has been written a letter to put him out until February 1st so he's out another month but at least at this appointment, all the letters and paperwork we needed were done before we walked out the door. There will be no stress calling every single day to see if they'll actually do it. Right now the only real stress I have is once again my mother. She tells me Lenny doesn't do anything ALL day long and that he's not helping himself at all. I wonder when and where she got her medical degree to know that and for someone who works from 6 am to 2:30 outside the house, it must be a matter of "I don't see it so it doesn't happen." Some of Lenny's exercises have to be done laying down and mom doesn't ever go near our room so again, it must be "I don't see it, etc"
Then when she's done telling me all that, she goes to "he may not even have a job after all of this. They won't hold it forever you know. I don't trust big business." And then I give her "I'm fairly confident they can't do that since he's on medical leave and seeing medical professionals twice a week which is documented and we send them what they ask for" she starts wtih the "yeah but" the final one being "yeah but they won't fire him for his disability, they'll just come up with some other reason instead. I can't live thinking like that. Right now he's paying associate rates for everything we have (health insurance, long term disablility etc) and I can only live in the right now. I can't worry too much about when he goes back because for the right now, we have everything we need. 100% of a paycheck would be nice but 60% helps get the bills paid. And truthfully, they are in such need of help, I can't imagine why they would let a good worker go but I guess stranger things have happened.
What gets me with my mother however is she says - get this one - "I'm not a pessimist and I can't understand how and wny people are like that. I can't stand when they are." For not a pessimist, she certainly is acting like one when it comes to Lenny. She then claims that she's a realist. Well if that's the case, why did she think that Lenny would only spend maybe two weeks tops in the rehab facility and why is she so convinced Lenny should have gone back to work a month ago despite what the doctor said? Yes, I was hoping he could go back a month ago but from things I've read 4 to 6 months is more normal. On January 5th, Lenny will be out 4 months so going back in February (we're hoping for it) puts him in the middle at 5 months. Not bad for someone in his 50's with other medical problems.
So that's where we stand. It's been a long day so I'm going to go to bed but I did want to update everyone on how things are going.
Oh, Darlene, I wish you didn't have to listen to your mom; hard when you're in the same house, I know. I hope you can ignore her naysaying---yes, indeed, she sure sounds like a pessimist.
It's great you have the paperwork now, and on the brighter side you two know what Lenny needs to work on, and so will the physical therapist.
The best thing is, Lenny is getting there, slowly but surely. I’m sorry you have to listen to your mom, but I would just keep tuning her out as much as possible. for continued improvement for Lenny!
Thanks for the update, Darlene. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be, hoping and taking Lenny back and forth to doctors, and then listening to your pessimistic mother. Yes, she’s pessimistic.
Continued best wishes with Lenny’s recovery and return to work.
We all know your mother is great at pushing your buttons and you know it too. Can you figure out how to not engage with her and let things roll off your back. All engaging with her does is upset you.
I hope Lenny gets the physical therapy he needs to get him moving, although it sounds like is is doing as well as he did before the accident. Best of luck to you both and lots of thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for the update, Darlene. Hang in there! Lenny and you have come a long way on the road to recovery. There is definitely more behind you than in front of you. I'm glad the PT is being updated and hope that helps Lenny get on the final road to recovery and getting back to work.
