Your Key to Happiness . . . might not work - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have seen the more close up shots of Mary Devall, but in thase ride photos I just keep thinking who is that grown up young lady? She will forever be about 7 in my mind!
The "Mary" is from a number of "Mary"'s that have been very special in my life. The "Devall" is my mother's maiden name which is all the more special to me since my mom passed away last year.
That's so cool! A lot of people try to name their kids unique names and end up sounding ridiculous, but her name is beautiful and classy. I like maddie too
Great AK day! I STILL haven't ridden KRR because I hate walking around soaked. Maybe one day!

WOW I am late to this one! Glad to see another TR. Soo sorry about your fur baby...such a painful thing for a family. Also sorry about your key card issues.
I wonder if it is a RFID thing because we had TERRIBLE TERRIBLE trouble with ours...I think we ended up with 5 sets of cards by the end of it. For a while I had the only key that would work for the DDP. I assumed it was because we were staying in the newly opened section of Art of Animation, but maybe there are just general issues. We were on first name basis with the electricians in our room every.single.night. I am not looking forward dealing with RFIDs again in November, but you all seemed to do a very good job of ignoring the issues and having fun anyway. We ended up getting one night credited back for our hassle, so I hope you guys got something too!

Our busy day at AK had worn Charlie out, so he took a while the rested of us regrouped for a bit and then took off for the Boardwalk to look around and do some shopping. Monica and I spotted the margarita stand that Joan had frequented a good bit earlier in the week , but when Monica mentioned the Spoodles sangria that you could still purchase at the takeout window I was sold.
While we made our purchase, the others had come up with their own form of recreation - - a surrey bike. My girls had never done this and were dying to, so today was apparently the day.
Maddie had to sit in the basket up front since she wasn’t tall enough to pedal, but that was exactly where she wanted to be anyway. When the CM measured Mary Devall, she really wasn’t tall enough either, but he took pity on her little pre-teen self and let her sit beside Macy.
Once they were off, Monica and I easily found a bench and did some serious chatting while they looped us a few times. I knew that my uber competitive husband would never get out and push like some of the other riders we had witnessed, so they made record time coming around. The fact that he had a young man sitting beside him with strong legs certainly didn't hurt!
Once they were done and our sangria cups were empty, we strolled over to WS since Monica and Thom wanted to see the band in Canada. We got there right when they started so we were able to see the entire show.
We then made our way over to Mouse Gears for a little shopping. While we were in there, I stepped out with Mary Devall and we called my Dad. He was doing well and was so happy to hear from us. While, we were out there, the rain started coming down slowly until it was a complete downpour. I had left our ponchos drying on the balcony, so we were out of luck.
Once back inside, Maddie decided that she wanted one of the fluffies from Monsters University and ended up with Archie, the mascot. Although the movie hadn’t come out yet, she had seen him on commercials and him. He was cute . . . in a weird kind of way. Mary Devall finally made her first purchase with two vinylmations.
These pictures were taken the next morning by Mary Devall of their purchases (she just got a phone earlier this summer so I'll be posting some of her photos too ).
When all purchases were made and we walked outside, it was still pouring. Monica, Macy and Lucius all had ponchos, so they headed for CS in China while we went back and bought some ponchos.
After wearing our dollar store ponchos earlier in the day, it’s amazing how nice it was to wear the thicker ones. The four of us trudged through the rain to the CS in China. Since the girls had just had something similar for lunch, neither one wanted anything to eat there. We figured we would just grab something at the Marketplace at BC when we got back.
Once they were done, we trudged on to Germany where they browsed in some shops. None of us were on the prowl for anything, so we decided to head back to the hotel to get something to eat. The walk from Germany to BC took forever in the rain.
Once back at BC, we stopped by the Marketplace to pick up dinner. I decided on the pepperoni flatbread which sounded just perfect on a rainy night. Thom stood in line for us while the girls and I figured out what they could have for dessert. It took a little while but we finally got our food. As we walked down the breezeway, we ran right into Monica and Lucius who had just picked up pizza for him at the Boardwalk take out window.
Macy had returned to the room already and she and Charlie were eating desserts from the bakery in France when we walked into the room. Monica poured us each a glass of Conundrum and we settled in for our feast.
Once Macy spotted my flatbread, she decided that she wanted one so back she and Monica went. Once we had all eaten all we could (and used up all of the CS credits that we could ), we decided to hit the sack.
