FIRSTS, BIRTHS, and GIRTHS…A September 2013 PTR - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thank you! You are so sneaky!! But congratulations on the succes of that! I'll have to try that on DD!!

I blame the kids and them deciding that bedtime is optional. Leaves very little time for exercise. I managed to drop all the weight from my last pregnancy right before DS's first WDW trip so I'm hoping I can pull the same thing off this time around. I'll use WDW as a weight loss motivator! I hope the scales keep tipping in your direction. And I admire you for not popping open a bottle of wine just because it may deter you from that goal. I'd never be able to do that!
Everything is much better (although I may get an update after work today-DH was giving her insurance company a statement at lunch time). DH even has his truck back! Thanks for the congrats! The big thing that helps me is using an app to track my food everyday. This really makes you aware of how much you are actually putting in your mouth! My problem was always portion control--I could easily turn a snack into an entire meal. WDW is the perfect motivator!! In fact, it's mine too! I want to recognize myself in the photos and not be the biggest person! Keeping the wine at arm's length can prove difficult at times, but I keep it in moderation (I only drink, maybe, once a month).

This is a prime example of people ruining things for others. Just like the scammers that lie about their children's ages at Disney, etc. It all ends up making things worse for the rest of us!!!
Many years ago, I was out with my mom and we had stopped at a store. As I was backing out of my parking space, I stopped, put my car into drive and this lady pulled into a parking spot and actually drove the SIDE of her car against the BACK of mine. We got out, looked at our cars (everything was ok) and I said everything looks okay, no need to call the police (it was HER fault!).
I was still out with my mom & a little while later my husband calls me that the police were at our house, looking for me, that I was involved in a hit & run!!!!!!!
I was FUMING when I went to the police station. The police were actually very nice, I think they knew this lady was an idiot. Then, we end up finding out from our insurance company (since she was claiming she had damage on her car), that there was another claim stating there was an accident between my husband and her husband in some other area. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How they got information regarding my husband's car, I'll never know. Nothing ever happened with our insurance -- I'm guessing the insurance company told them to take a hike because our rates never changed and nothing else ever came about it.
It was one of those situations that I would have liked to hire a lawyer and sue them just for the simple fact they were lying scammers and put us through a bunch of phone calls and stress!!!! UGHHHH. It just makes me CRAZY!!!!!!
I completely agree with you! So sorry that you went through a similar situation -- that's pretty creepy that they had your husband's vehicle information too!

WOW! I MUST check this out! I was actually quite surprised when DD asked for a second helping of Tilapia last night! We told her it was fish that tastes exactly like chicken and she went for it. Then asked for more chicken...

Thank you! We're slowly working through it. DH gave a statement to crazy lady's insurance company yesterday so he's worried all over again, but remembered he hadn't told our insurance company that he heard back from hers. He plans to call our insurance company today to see what they plan to do to fight her. Thanks for the congrats!

I am not a big fan of fish (not counting crab or shrimp!!), but tilapia I can do. It's such a mild tasting fish. What I dislike the most is a "fishy" tasting fish. My kids love tilapia too.
Congrats on the weight loss! You are rocking those pounds off. I am using the idea of Disney Pics as motivation as well.
Thank you! Keep up on your goal too! You'll be so thankful you did!

I'm in the exact same boat as you...I didn't even begin trying fish other than canned tuna until last May! At that time, my DH and I decided we wanted to make dinner for each other for our anniversary and I took a risk on Salmon for the first time and LOVED it! Then, I started asking about other fish that didn't have the "fishy" taste and learned about Tilapia. So far so good!

I could probably handle salmon - I have had a bite here or there. I've learned with tilapia that they aren't all created equal. I've had some that were still a bit too fishy for my tastes - and others that are so good you wouldn't even know it's fish. So -- with that, I'm always leary to try something, especially if we're out to eat. I never want to order something & end up disliking it so much I don't eat. I hate being wasteful of food!

Salmon is better than Tilapia, in my opinion. Especially if you marinate it well. YUM! I'm like you though, unless I try it at home first and have alternative options in the event I don't like it, I'm pretty hesitant to order it at a restaurant.

Sorry to rain on a few parades but as a seafood lover I have to say if it ain't bait then we eat it. May require a little creativity in cooking but, If I Hook it I Cook it

HAHAHA! I love it! If I Hook it I Cook it! I'll have to share that with DH...he loves to fish and would enjoy this quote!
I cannot tell you how much I am in LOVE with this movie! Stitch is one of my FAVORITE characters! DH was actually busy trying to get some paperwork done related to the recent car accident; but DD and I laughed and giggled our way through this movie. My favorite part of this movie is when they all spend the day surfing at the beach. I just love how this part of the movie makes me feel (especially with Stitch trying to be good) and I felt horrible when the aliens messed it up for him. I think DD's favorite part(s) are when Stitch is learning to be like Elvis and then he does his performance on the beach. She kept getting a little switch in her hips...too cute to watch!
In other Disney-related news...I placed another Amazon order!! I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ORDER I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MYSELF! Okay, let me set the scene and build the anticipation for you...
I own only one Disney CD (I know, heart breaking isn't it?)...the soundtrack to the Little Mermaid (my all-time favorite childhood Disney movie). I figured it was time to beef it up a bit and went online in search of Disney Parks music. I found the Four Parks, One World CD and immediately knew that's the one I wanted. Add to Cart? Yes, please!
Next, I knew I was in the market for a travel surge protector for regular plugs and USBs and I researched those awhile ago so it was waiting on my wish list. Add to Cart? Yes, please!
Now...the moment of all moments...the purchase I was most excited about for months!!! DH and I even planned out what our big purchases would be this spring/summer so that I wouldn't overheat the Disney credit card and make this purchase at the wrong time. Add to Cart? YES, PLEASE!
Ladies and Gentlemen! When I arrive home today, I will be the proud new owner of a Nikon D5100 DSLR camera!!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED! This is my first DSLR and I cannot wait to learn how to use it! Thank goodness that DH agreed with the timing of this purchase...I REALLY wanted to have plenty of time to learn the camera and how to manually adjust the settings and set up a shot without creating a traffic jam while in the World.
So if any of you have some tips or resources for photographing Disney, I am ready to hear them!!
Oh...and if the rumors turn out to be true about Fall Free Dining, I'll be PIF before the end of May...no big deal... !!

What else...I think Lilo & Stitch is a really cute movie too. I hope you enjoy the CD!

We had two point and shoots over the course of several years, but we always had an issue with, after a few years, our photos starting turning out grainy for no reason at all, on every setting. Very weird. So, I'm really looking forward to using a more advanced camera and taking the time to really learn the skills involved.
Cross your fingers AND toes...I want that discount so bad!!
