Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

While doing laundry this weekend, and it being almost 90, I decided I needed to go through Dylan’s old clothes to see what was in there for Lukas. Found all the missing shorts and summer pj’s, so that was good. Plus I found some more t-shirts including a SW one. I did the same for me and found all my shorts and capris. So we should be set on clothes for the trip. I was really close to setting them aside but it’s been so hot lately I better not stash any away just yet. I will probably go through mentally and decide what to pack this week though.
Today they finally announced the hosts for SWW this year, which turned out to be the same 2 that hosted last year: Ashley Eckstein and James Arnold Taylor - who provide the voices of Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi, respectively, for the popular animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For more info see the Disney Parks Blog. Now to just wait for the other celebrities that will be there on the weekend we’ll be in attendance.
[R2-D2 and Chewbacca are playing the holographic game aboard the Millennium Falcon] Chewbacca: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh! C-3PO: He made a fair move. Screaming about it can't help you. Han Solo: Let him have it. It's not wise to upset a Wookiee. C-3PO: But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a droid. Han Solo: That's 'cause droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that. Chewbacca: Grrf. C-3PO: I see your point, sir. I suggest a new strategy, R2: let the Wookiee win.
I believe the game table was/is in the queue for Great Movie Ride at DHS. I’ll have to check when we’re there to see if it still is there.
We pulled out all the spring/summer clothes this past weekend, too. But it's been so warm here there was no point in waiting.
BTW: Quite a few years ago before all our Disney trips, we took Stefanie and her cousin to St. Louis and had the best time. My niece is married, but maybe it's time to bring Stefanie back!
How in the heck did I miss this until now??!! Signing in now and I'll catch up when I'm not reading on my phone
I guess next time I need to install flashing lights.

It's been hot here too - around 90 yesterday! It's supposed to rain and cool off a bit this week though.
Come on back! There's so much to do here!
I know we are in the south but it has been warm for us too. Had to pull out the summer clothes.
You reminded me Kelly, I need to start thinking about what we (I really should say me, Steph will probably wait til last minute) will be packing.
Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were on TV this weekend.
Aren't they cutting it a little close with the release of the SWW appearances? I thought they would have let everyone know by now. Atleast they finally said who the hosts would be.
But, now I'm all caught up (work schmerk).
Love the haircut! My boys can't eat cereal fast enough so that we can get back to the store and grab another "specially marked box" and another SW pen.
Great food choices, and even greater that you'll be sharing a couple of them with fellow PPers.
That was a LOT of facepaint!! Maybe he won't be as completely covered up at Disney.
Those cupcakes look great!! The boys and I love to watch Cupcake Wars. And, one of the winners goes to my church and has a place in Princeton about 10 minutes from my house and I haven't been there yet. Of course neither of my boys could eat there so it might be a little cruel to say "We're just stopping in here for a minute so Mommy can get a great big cupcake that you aren't allowed to have." Gonna have to get a babysitter so I can try some
And...I actually recognize a lot of the "old" SW quotes too!!
Glad you've got all the clothes sorted for the trip!!
Thanks! Now to decide what to wear on what days.

Mike was just saying this weekend that he thought it odd that nothing had been released yet. Hopefully we'll find out about the other celebrity appearances soon. Don't they know we like to plan?!

I'm getting my haircut again next week - going shorter. And Lukas will get a trim - he can't wait until Disney.
A babysitter sounds in order just for a cupcake. Did you try Babycakes at DtyD when you were there? Not sure if they'd still be safe for the boys or not.
Your update kicked me into high gear with going through my own closet this evening. Glad you made some progress.
90 degree days............snap girl, you must feel like your already in Florida.
So those celebrities for SWW...............are you happy with them? Are they good ones? Ya know, cause I'm still clueless in this dept

It has since cooled off - only a high in the low 60s today, so it's more normal temps now. But this up and down is killing my allergies and sinuses!!
I don't know much about them to be honest. I like the lady though - she seems all about girl power and designs clothing and accessories for women based on SW and other sci-fi things, so that's good. I currently like this shirt from her: Her Universe Star Wars Official Merchandise Queen Amidala Tee - Her Universe Shop very fitting of my household.
I'm anxious to hear who else will be there though. I admit to watch 90210 and would not object to meeting Matt Lanter (who is on 90210 and voices Anakin in the Clone Wars). God! How nerdy do I sound right now?

I know we all have the park bag/purse debate going on all the time. We will have bags for the boys things - diapers, snacks, extra set of clothes, etc. But I'll still need to carry $, room key, tickets, cc, etc. plus cell phone and camera. I hate to carry bags while I'm there and don't like the lanyard much either so I've recently discovered these wrist wallets and am debating between these two:
Both styles look great, but the Banjees looks maybe a bit more versatile? I wish I could get away with just a wristlet, but can't seem to pare things down that much.
