My uber-Last-Minute Solo Bermuda Cruise! - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow - just caught up on day 3 and it looked just perfect! Perfect breakfast...perfect snorkle trip...little nice shopping (with a little nice rum) and just wonderful photos. You look like you should be under "happy" in the dictionary - your face just glows and it's not all sunburn!
BTW - the photo you took from inside the bush is really worth it. The colours of the flowers are lovely!
first, please let me say that it is REALLY bothering me that i've not finished this trip report yet. there's only one night and one full at-sea day left, and i fully intend to finish it. i'm OCD enough that leaving a trip report dangling like this is just not in my nature. however, i've been CRAZY BUSY. and so, for now, i bring to you just one of the many things that's been keeping me busy--a guest post about this very trip that i wrote for solo traveler blog:
add to this the fact that i had thanksgiving dinner for 10 at my home before promptly leaving on a trip to williamsburg (from which i JUST NOW returned--and no, there will NOT be a trip report for that trip! though there will be blog posts...) and the fact that my 'job' right now is writing a book...and, well, you'll understand why this is taking me so long. truth be told--this trip report is longer (word length wise) than my BOOK. which is, technically, my full time job. not good!
but i will finish it. promise. as soon as possible--whenever that may be!

ok--it's been too long. i'm going to finish this trip report if it kills me! though you should know--the rest is going to be a bit abbreviated. i started this when there were still leaves on the trees--and today we bought our christmas tree!
after i had my cheesy bread, i made my way back to my cabin to shower for dinner. i had reservations at la cucina with my friends at something like 5:45. but first it was time to watch us sail away! so i found a spot on that upper level sun deck--where again it was VERY WINDY--to watch them untie the ship and sail away from Bermuda (frown...)
i met a very nice retired couple up there and ended up talking to them--which made me late for my dinner reservations. i actually had to interrupt in the middle of a sentence and excuse myself because i was about to be VERY late for dinner. again, who says traveling solo is lonely?
i found the restaurant and discovered my cruise buddies already seated at a great seat by a window. the restaurant was very pretty, but i found the floor to be a bit...odd...
in case you can't tell, that's carpet. huh. strange.
we were already given a little plate of appetizers, and soon we all figured out what we wanted for dinner. the menu was a bit confusing, as we didn't understand if we were supposed to order something from each section (as one of the sections was 'pizza' and another was 'pasta' and another was 'main dishes') we were told that no, we just pick pizza OR pasta OR main dish (like in real restaurant but not like on a cruise ship!) though we were told that if we'd like, we could get a pizza as an appetizer to share--and so we did. it was not very good.
i started with the calamari appetizer--which WAS very good--and then had the risotto which was only ok. i'm a very picky risotto eater, and i ate this (i've sent back more risotto than anything else in my life) it was a little under-creamy and very over-garlicky, but as a whole it was a pretty enjoyable dish.
you can kind of even tell from the photo that the pizza wasn't very good--the cheese was very low quality...
one of my dining companions got the veal with gnocchi, which looked very good. if i ever sail on the gem again, i will try this...
...but then i love gnocchi!
for dessert i had...wait for it...the panna cotta! ha! this was a panna cotta tasting, which was appropriate as i'd been 'tasting' panna cotta all week long. i know i said i'd do a parade of panna cotta at the end, but at this rate who knows when that will be. so here you go--the panna cotta tasting...
one was lemon, one was chocolate, and one was amaretto. the lemon one was fabulous. for the record, all three were much better than the ones i'd been enjoying in the main dining room. they were more...rich? i could so go for some panna cotta right now!
after dinner we retired to spinnaker--the common area in which i spent the most amount of time--for the evening's entertainment. sadly, because i was so full, i didn't even bother to go LOOK at the chocolate buffet. i guess that's just another reason to go on another cruise!

I've just read through your entire TR and I'm loving it! Bermuda is gorgeous!! I didn't realize that the water would be so BLUE in Bermuda. I think I need to look into a cruise out of Boston to Bermuda! Looking forward to the rest of your TR!

glad you enjoyed it! and yes, the water is insane. i didn't even mess with the saturation on any of the beach photos, because i didn't need to!
i'd strongly suggest a boston to bermuda cruise...while you still can. it seems that more and more cruise lines are forgoing bermuda stops for some sad reason. i'd like to do one more before they become a distant memory.
sorry that i haven't posted in a while--i only have one day left to write about but i've been SO BUSY lately!
I just saw this and read it through! I've always wanted to visit Bermuda and now I REALLY want to visit it! Thanks Tracy for the report and I'm looking forward to more.
