The “”I Don’t Have to Cook for 10 Days" TR - Aug 17-27, 2010 - COMPLETED 11/2! - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great Time at DHS. Sorry about the way the CM treated you at the JTA. I can see why you were frustrated, but glad to see you didn't let it bother you for the rest of the day!

Great morning at DHS, except not making the Jedi Academy. I would have been very frustrated, especially with the CM's behavior. Glad you all made the best of it!

Best. Description. Ever.

What is even sadder is that you got the raw end of the stick instead of the families in front that obviously had kids enter the line even after they did the count Glad that you did not let this ruin your day and happy that the kids moved past the situation quickly and was ready to have some more fun.

Thanks everyone! Honestly, if she had just said that (obviously) kids entered the line after the count, we would have let it go. It was her denial of even counting that irked us. Oh well, it didn't ruin our day or our trip - and in four years of going, that's probably the only bad encounter with a CM, which speaks volumes for WDW

Great update...Sorry though the kids didnt get to do JT, but you did the right thing and not let it bother you the rest of the day! We love meeting with Mr. & Mrs. I, they are so much fun!! Cant wait to hear about Chip & Dales Singalong!!!
Sorry you didn't get the pics! Have you every tried searching You Tube for that day - probably a very long shot, but maybe there's video somewhere!

Will we find our way to Chip and Dale’s Singalong?
The kids and Dave relaxed in the room for a bit while I went to the gift shop to buy some new lanyards for the kids and browse around a bit. I brought us back some pop in our refillable mugs and we got ready to head out.
We decided to go to WL and have dinner at Roaring Forks, then take the boat over to FW. Getting there was no problem – a bus arrived quickly and the boat was waiting at the dock when we got there. Thanks goodness since it decided to downpour just as we were getting on the boat. It died down by the time we got to WL, so we made it to dinner fairly dry.
For dinner, Dave and I both had burgers,Sabrina had the turkey sandwich, and Alex had pizza. We were all happy with our dinners, but it was dessert that made me ecstatic. I got a magic cookie bar! I’ve been wanting one since I saw it in Liz's TR. However, I am not as dedicated to my TR as she is and I ate mine right away - no pictures! We explored the resort a bit, then caught the boat over to FW, asked a few CMs for directions and fairly easily found our way to the sing-along spot.
We didn’t wait long until Dave’s coworkers began showing up – there were 4 other people and their families from his office at WDW and we’d planned this meeting a while back. It was great catching up with them and hearing about their trips (some of which DH had helped plan).
My kids have never roasted marshmallows or tried s’mores, so of course I had to buy the kit. They had an absolute blast roasting the marshmallows, but eating the s’mores was different story. Neither felt the love for the gooey treats.
My artsy marshmallow shot that I actually really like

They did continue to set fire to marshmallow after marshmallow though. Soon, everyone’s favourite chipmunks arrived. Chip visited our side and while Alex was a little bummed that he didn’t get to meet both of them, he didn’t dwell on it long and got his dancing shoes on.
We danced for a bit and then stayed for about ½ hour of the movie of the night – ‘Up’. I’ve got to mention the heat for a minute – it was after 9 at night and it was hotter than a sauna! We were melting while waiting for our boat to MK, so when a WL one showed up first, we hopped on that, deciding to just take a cab back to our hotel. The friends we were with did the same. We had minimal wait at WL for our cab (well worth our $13 + tip!) and were brought quickly back to our air-conditioned hotel by 10pm.
The kids had quick snacks and were in bed by 11. Yikes! Looks like our MK rope drop isn’t happening tomorrow. Hopefully we’ll fit it in another day.
Overall, despite a crabby CM starting us off on a bad foot, we did have an enjoyable day and it was great seeing our friends at the campfire tonight.
Up next: One magical day!

The campfire looks so fun! I've never had a s'more either I've been camping, too, but never have gotten around to eating one. They sound amazing though.
Sorry about that CM! I know what you mean - if she'd handled it differently, it would've changed the whole attitude of the situation. I guess some people just can't admit when they're wrong.
[I][B] I brought us back some pop in our refillable mugs and we got ready to head out.
Ok I am such a Dork here!!! I had to read this line, like 12 times!!! I was like...what in the world is "pop" and why is she putting it in her mugs?????? But Duh! Now I get it! We just call it "drink"!
Example....Mom can I get a drink? or...Do you want a drink for dinner? LOL!!! Too funny!!!
Anyhoos......The singalong looked like alot of fun, my son (11) loves to burn the poor marshmellows and eat them! Gald you guys had a great day!!! More please!

I know what you mean. Where I grew up, it was "pop". When I moved to Nashville, TN no one called it pop - it was "soda". So now I say soda all the time
What a great day and how awesome that you were able to meet up with all of DH's coworkers for the evening. Your son makes the cutest and funniest faces in his photos! The one of him holding the s'more made me laugh out loud - he did NOT look like he was enjoying his s'more And the one of you with the 2 kids where DS is holding his marshmallow roasting stick - he looks so proud, like a knight holding his sword Too cute!
OK, I'm all caught up! First I have to say that the kid that was attacking your DH... first I was all mad at that kid and his lack of manners. Then I thought about how bizarre it was and starting Then I thought about his rudeness again. I can't decide whether to be mad or hysterical! It sounds like you're having a fantastic trip, though! And your kids are too cute! I really loved hearing about the campfire. I might have to do that when I stay at Fort Wilderness.
