2 Year Anniversary PTR September 2010 - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Actually I'll be in WDW in September 2011 - I was under the impression that you were both planning trips next year as well.
Hope David's doctor appointment went well today!
I am totally hoping to be back in September of next year, so hopefully we will be able to meet up then!

That would be cool, and then too my DD will be there.

So, we had a crazy day of doctors appointments yesterday...
We had to be in Seattle by 8:00, and we live in Everett, and it was rush hour, so we had to leave the house by 6:45...we were, of course, running late (due to SIL not being out of the bathroom by the time we needed in to get our showers and such), so we were stressed out, especially since I don't usually drive in downtown Seattle, and it's confusing and people are pushy and get angry when you don't know what you're doing or where you're going.
Thankfully, we made it to the appointment on time. Unfortunately, this doctor was kind of a jerk. His main line was (over and over again) "You're too young to be having this kind of shoulder problem, so I'm reluctant to do surgery..." or "I don't want to do a scope to figure out what the problem is, because you're really young to need surgery."
JUST a SMALL pet peeve of mine, when doctors say you are too young to be having that sort of problem.
That's great.
He has that problem.
FIX IT!
I finally said to the doctor, "We realize he is young and shouldn't be having a problem like this. I also want YOU to realize that this is severely limiting his mobility. We used to go hiking and whitewater rafting and he used to do martial arts and play the guitar and draw and paint. He can't do any of those things because of his shoulder. You need to do something for him."
So, get this...he looks at David and says "You think you can't do those things?" I was so proud of David, he replied "I don't think. I know. Why do you think I'm here?" This doctor was just being so unnecessarily....jerkish. I know that's not a word, but he was...Anyway.
The doctor decided that he would give David cortisone shots in different parts of his shoulder to pin point where the pain is most intense and where the cortisone is most beneficial...The second part makes sense, but David already told him (several times) where the pain was most intense, so that doesn't really make sense to me.
Anyway...when the doctor gave David the cortisone shot, David turned gray. And I don't mean he turned pale, I mean all the color left his face, he swayed on the table, and then he turned gray.
The nurse and the doctor made him lie down, and wouldn't let him up for a couple of minutes. Poor David! He said it hurt A LOT worse than the first shot, and he is still sore today from the needle. Dang doctor.
Anyway. No surgery on the horizon, at least for now...
After that appointment, we had to rush back to Lynnwood (halfway back to Everett) for MY doctor appointment. Yikes. Then I had to rush to work.
Long day.
David had a general check up on Wednesday, and next Friday the doctor wants to have him tested for Sleep Apnea. My dad has this, so I am not especially alarmed, but David is a bit nervous I think, although he is glad that there may be a medical explanation for his being tired all the time and that his lack of sleep may be causing some of his "down" days where he feels a little blue.
Anyway...I feel like I am way off topic here!
DISNEY STUFF
I am doing my packing list as soon as I am done updating here. David nixed the "Disney Movie a Day" plan, but I think I may still post a fact about each movie, in alphabetical order, starting 51 days out. So, 51 Days out, I will post a fun fact about 101 Dalmations.
This will start in 20 Days, because today, we are 71 days out!
I know I keep saying this, but I SWEAR I am going to post my to-do list in the next few days. Things have just been crazy what with David's shoulder, working, cleaning, possibly moving at the beginning of August. Yikes.
Anyway, that is all. Will post my to do list by the end of next week at the latest!
Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY! Have fun in your pursuit of happiness tomorrow, but please be safe!

OMG!! I am so sorry that doc was such a jerk. I hate that young stuff too! Though I am older than you guys, I am 32, with my Lyme I get the too young stuff sometimes, and believe it or not, too old too. A couple years back I had the H-Flu, apparently this is a flu that they give babies vaccines for now, as a lot of kids died from it a long time ago. It is a flu that kids under 5 usually get and I was 29! At first they thought I had Diptheria, but after a tube up my nose and down my throat, it was a no. Finally a blood test showed I had the H-Flu, wierd!
Anyhow, I hope that the cortisone works better for David this round, that really sucks he is unable to do the activities he enjoys with this problem. Hopefully, if this doesn't work the "jerkish"(LOL) doc will do something! for David!
Seattle sounds a little like Boston! I do NOT drive in Boston. Luckily we have a bus and subway system and I use that, if I HAVE to go. Being a true Cape Codder, I do not like leaving my safe little island, I do not cross the bridge, unless I HAVE too! LMBO
I too tried to watch Disney movies weekly until our trip last year, we made it through a few and that was it. Not sure what happened....
You might be moving in August! Holy moly! We are thinking about moving next year and we would have to in July and I thought that was bad enough 2 months out from the trip (I hope!). Good luck with all that!
Great update, thanks for letting us know the results of poor David shoulder. And wtg wifey!! For sticking up for your man. I am so reserved and don't like confrontation, but when it comes to my man and my child, look out for the mama bear! HAHAHAHA!!

All caught up Jessica. So sorry to hear about David's shoulder. Believe me my sister had shoulder surgery in her late teens early twenties from
dislocating it and I injured both of mine in a car accident that was an 8 year old child's fault. I hope his shoulder gets better and you are able to have a doctor who willdo somethinng for him and put him out of his pain. Tons
of pixies for him. Congrats on the new shoes for you both. Congrats on finding your paperwork for your Shark Dive and getting your ADRs all situated. How awesome of David to let you put a deposit down on a bounce back offer if you get one. I hope you get one. Looking foward to more please.
First of all, thanks to everyone for all the for David's shoulder. So far, the shot has been completely ineffective, and actually ADDED to his pain because the doctor jammed the dang needle in so hard. But we're hoping that since the shot didn't help, maybe he'll do something else for David at the follow up appointment.
So, today, as I worked my eighth day in a row with no days off, and struggled to smile at customers through my migraine headache and nausea, as I did my darnedest to be a great employee for WinCo Foods (the grocery store I work at) and provide great customer service, and still came up a bit short (at least not up to my usual standard)....I thought of Disney Cast Members.
For the most part, they don't fail. They smile at you warmly, like you're someone they've known for a while, instead of just meeting you for the first time. They go beyond politeness. For the most part, their only goal is making sure that you're happy and have a magical experience, and they will a lot of the time go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure of it.
After I thought of them, I went above and beyond for a few customers today, and the way they acted happily surprised and smiled and thanked me warmly made me smile and feel just a little better.
So...random shout out to the CMs of Disney World, for making the world there AND here a better place to be.
The next post I make will be my to do list...I FINALLY have two days off, tomorrow and Friday, so I will have time and energy (hopefully) to sit down and get it on here.
OH, the moving thing fell through, so that's one less thing to worry about. We just couldn't make it work with David's medical expenses and the money we are trying to set aside every week for school, and that is one thing I REFUSE to compromise on, and David as well. Once he is done, then I get to go back, and he is so close!
Awww...sorry to hear David hasn't been helped by the shot. for the doctor actually doing something!
Yay for days off for you finally! Can't wait to hear more. Boy, do you have some catching up to do with mine with the reading, LOL!!!
66 days for you today and 67 days for me!!! 70 days till our meet! I can't wait!!

So sorry to hear David's shoulder isn't feeling any better. I hope your migraine went away and you aren't feeling sick anymore. Pixies or you both. Don't feel so bad on the migraine. I went to bed last night myself that literally made me sick and didn't go away until 8this morning. It doesn't help when you have a migraine and your hubby asking you "what do you want me to do,
tie your head to the bed?".
We too love Meet the Robinsons. Such a heartwarming movie, and I too cry at te end. I don't think hearing Rob Thomas's song "Little Wonders" and seeing a great quote at the end by Walt Disney couldn't make you cry? I foun it on DVD when we had our pit stop to Dinosaur Land at Target and bought it for
Skyler for is his Birthday to add to our Disney Movie Collection.
So sorry that David's shoulder is still bothering him. I think about Disney CMs even when I'm teaching. They do set a great example of customer service (at least almost all of them do).

Finally posting the "To Do List" I've been promising...
I promised I would do this before the end of the week...and it's the end of the week, so I've run out of procrastinating room. I'm not sure WHY I'm having such a hard time with that. I've had it written for about two weeks, I just haven't POSTED it.
There HAS been a lot going on. Lately, David has had at least one doctors appointment a week, and I've been working long hours at work, and we're trying to get ready for the family reunions coming up at the end of July/beginning of August...*sigh* Life happens I guess.
Anyway...here is the list. Some of the stuff is a little silly to list, but I'm obsessive about listing stuff...and seeing a big list of things to do to prepare for our trip makes me feel excited, so here goes my unnecessarily long list.
They are not in any particular order...the ones in bold are ones I still need to do, and ones that I take the bold off in the future will be ones I have completed...
-Pull out money to put in Mousekeeper Envelopes and for Magical Express Tips
-Purchase shorts for David and I, and purchase some new t-shirts and socks for David
-Purchase a notebook to take notes in for my Trip Report
-Purchase sunscreen, bug spray, and various other misc items for the trip
-Write up a packing list
-Contact Discovery Cove to find out why they haven't sent our Dolphin Swim Paperwork
-Call Margaritaville 30 days out to make our priority seating dinner reservation for the night we are at Universal Studios
-Confirm ALamo Car Reservation, Disney Dining Reservations, Flights, etc
-Schedule a ride with the Mears shuttle for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (We're only renting a car for the two days we're going to SeaWorld and Discovery Cove.)
-Contact Disney to inform them of David's egg allergy (a sudden development) and my nut allergy (which I forgot to do)
-Check show schedule for SeaWorld once it is finally up, and finish typing up our touring plans for that day
-Print out our travel book and have it bound
-Print Universal Studios Admission tickets and Islands of Adventure admission tickets
-Do online check in ten days out
-Fax room requests in ten days out
-Pay all the bills that are due while on our trip
- Pack our bags!
-Do online flight check in
Obviously, some of these can't be done for quite a while. But it's fun to list them out anyway! I'm really sorry about my patchy updating lately. Life is just...annoying sometimes!
