As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Haha! I can't believe that thought hadn't occurred to me yet. I think I've figured out that I'm throwing this one on my husband. I know I already told her about the "too much attention" issues...but I think if it came from Scott, she'd remember it/it would mean more.
And it really isn't a lie. There are always power point briefings that need to be reviewed yearly or quarterly that discourage such things. When I was in the Air Force, we HAD to wear our uniforms if we flew and the government bought the ticket. Now, even that is VERY discouraged.
So, that gets me out of Disney World, just not the homecoming. At least half the battle can be won.
Having just enjoyed my DH's homecoming after a year-long deployment to Iraq, there is no way I would have wanted my DH's first glimpse of me in an oversized t-shirt. Perhaps he is already home, I am just now reading your Pre-TR, but I hope everything worked out well. I'll continue reading so I can find out. I just had to go ahead and comment. Thank you for your sacrifice to our country, too. It is just as hard or harder for the spouses left back home.
Ok, I'm all caught up. I wish the Army had 6 month deployments. It sure would be nicer. So, you picked your DH up from the airport? We had this big ceremony and six buses brought our men from the airport. Very .

I do always feel bad whining about 6 month deployments when I know lots of people have it MUCH worse. Not to mention my husband is a meteorologist. Though, the threat of paper cuts and sore heiny's is very real. I try to keep those things in perspective, remembering how rough other military spouses have it today and keep it in global and historical perspective. Lots of respect and admiration for fellow military spouses!
I wish we had more of an event out of his homecomings. A lot of the Air Force deploys individually vs. with their unit, so my husband always flies commercial and we've had many, many meetings in the airport (my husband met our son there for the first time), lots of tearful goodbyes.

Sorry I've been lagging in the updates...but, MY HUSBAND'S HOME! It's still exciting...it's the little things like having someone to help me load children in and out of cars, to not have to be the one pushing the stroller. And...I actually got a hair cut because he was home to watch the kids.
I don't think I've made too many changes. I feel a little bit less planned than I have in previous trips, and oddly enough, I'm okay with this. Very atypical for myself, but I hear I'm getting more laid back in my old age. Packing for the kids has become a lot more simple. Everyone's potty trained and doesn't need entertained constantly...so it just seems so simple to throw clothes in for them and their Leapsters.
We did add the QS dining plan. I did the math, and roughly, it should equate to about free snacks for us. Even if that doesn't work out I don't think we'll lose money and I think the simplicity will be nice.
I've played with the ADR's a litle bit. Scott and I watched the Great Hotels episode featuring the Wilderness Lodge on the Travel Channel a while back and he insisted that we get an ADR at Whispering Canyon. Which, we had at one point, then I cancelled with the intent of rescheduling and forgot. So, it was a bit trying, but we were able to secure it.
Scott still hasn't packed. The only reason bags aren't zipped. I'll give him a few hours. Maybe I'll start packing him the weirdest things I can find and he'll get his heiny in gear.
Grandma and Grandpa seem a bit beyond excited. Their bags have been packed for a week. We're spending the night in KC before our flight, so when coordinating arrival times, they said, "We think we might go early and have breakfast there." Check in is at 3 pm...
I think that's about all I got...now just scrambling around the house, doing laundry, getting things tidy.
We're all packed! Scott pulled some things out and then I just figured out what would work best...it was a team effort.
MIL called...to remind me to pack the t-shirts. Yes, those same darn t-shirts that plagued me for the homecoming. Which, I don't think I ever specified, I got out of for the actual homecoming, but we did all wear them to our local chinese restaurant for dinner the next day. So...I did humor her slightly. *sigh* Oh well...I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!

Awwwww! I can't believe your DH met your DS in an airport. That brings tears to my eyes. Bless your heart.
I try to keep the deployments in perspective, too. Communication is SOOOOOOOO much better today than during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. And then better than the two World Wars. Some wives went months and months with no communication. I'm thankful we live in this day and age. And, six month deployments are very tough, too, and there are oftentimes more of them. Yuck! Thanks for your service!!
