As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After our lovely meal at Cosmic Rays (where I had a deeeeelicious veggie burrito), I had the luxury of stopping for a biologic break without hearing Sharon huff and puff about it!
Plus, these were the Cosmic Ray bathrooms where you can hear Stitch muttering and messing around. I kept trying to point it out to Christine and Jill, but I think they thought I’d been sneaking into the hooch again.
We stepped over to Space Mountain to use our FPs and Joan and Louise joined us, fresh from their sad goodbye to Mary Jean (who was headed home… ) They didn’t have FPs so I handed over mine without the blink of an eyelash – I really don’t enjoy Space Mountain, but was going to suck it up for the gang. Much to my delight, Larry offered to give up his FP as well – again, proving to us gals that he’s a total gem! Little did I realize that Aimee doesn’t enjoy this ride and happily joined us on a bench to giggle and grin – girl, you can tour with me ANYTIME! We chatted while our pals zoomed through the stars.
Afterwards, we hopped onto the TTA for a quick spin around Tomorrowland before the PassPorter Ornament Exchange. (I think Joan and Louise hightailed it outta there to go pound a few more rides!)
I just love this ride – and it was so enjoyable to be able to face these two lovely ladies. Larry and I sat on the other side and the poor guy had such a time finding room for his long legs.
Then we raced off for the Ornament Exchange over by the Liberty Tree Tavern. There was quite the crowd already there and several folks I had yet to run into. Molly and Travis and Joey were there and we got to spend some fun time chatting with them and once again got to admire their shirts (while trying to stay upwind of them -- sheesh, they'd been wearing these same shirts for three days straight!)
At one point, this random woman and her kids ran up to the big group and started asking if anyone had any Disney tattoos that they could photograph for a photo scavenger hunt they were doing. I got such a kick out of the number of shoulders, hips and feet that were suddenly pulled free from clothing and stuck in front of the camera!!
After such a success, the woman asked us if anyone would be willing to be “letters” spelling out M-I-C-K-E-Y. Sure… the only problem was that we had trouble figuring out what order we had to be in. After much waving and pointing and arguing, we got ourselves lined up for the picture. (Larry snapped it with his iPhone and emailed it to my DH so he could text it to me so I could upload it to the blog. Oy… the things I do for my fans. )

Then a gaggle of us trudged off to Big Thunder together. Several of us got chatting with a bunch of the CMs and we managed to get the back section of the train:

The gang was looking to me to figure out our next move – ruh ROH! Don’t they know that I rely on Karen for that sort of planning. The vote was for Pirates of the Caribbean so we quickly headed out past Splash and tried to sneak past the crowds waiting for the parade. Shooooooot…. (except I didn’t say shoot ) the parade started up before we could cross. Oh, well… it was fun to see everyone in their finery one final time. (By my next trip, the new parade will be running.)
As soon as it was possible, I zigged and zagged (losing half of my ducklings) and raced over to POTC to wait for the stragglers. We managed to pretty much fill a boat and were soon off “yo ho’ing” with the pirate gang.
Wanna know one of the most fun things about MouseFest? It's getting to completely embrace your joy, your geekitude, your love of all things hokey and silly and fun. This is the SECOND time I've gotten to ride POTC with a gaggle of PassPorters who knew all the words of the song and weren't embarrassed to show off that skill -- loud and proud!
Wanna know one of my other fav things to do at Disney? Pass off a bit of knowledge someone else told me as if it were my own. On the moving sidewalk that took us up out of POTC, I got to show Aimee how the foot markings on the rubber matt were actually a shoe and a peg leg... shoe and a peg leg... shoe and a peg leg. (okay fine... my DH pointed that out to me the previous year.)
Then it was back to Splash. (I didn't even want to tell Karen that we went in one direction, only to turn right around and return to a ride we'd just passed. Buuuut, we'd done it this way so we'd be near the train station after Splash. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it.)
Anyway, we had a slight wait in the standby line because I don’t think all of us had FPs. (My memory is fuzzy at this point, but I remember having to snake around slightly before going into the building and down to the loading area.)
I believe this was another first for Jill and I just couldn't bear to try and fake her out that the camelback in the middle was the big drop. (She screamed like a sissy girl anyway.
I managed to stay fairly dry, although I cheated and pulled my hoodie up over my hair, just in case.
At this point, we were ready for some time back at the resort, so several of us hopped onto the train and took off.
My favorite part was getting Jill to realize the irony of the recorded announcer on the train saying (in a whisper) “if you listen really closely, you just might hear the tribal people” which is followed (hilariously) by the loudest singing of “Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moooooooon.”
Hilarious… I tells ya. HI-larious!
As we headed out of the MK on our very successful half day of touring, I turned back to the castle and snapped a pic. Thanks, Walt. That was a great day so far!

Pfftttt! I say PFFTTTT! Half day my left you-know-what cheek! That was way more like 3/4 of a day of touring. And, the al-kee-hall started flowing right after this point and productivity plummeted. Plummeted I tell you!
In all seriousness, I will admit that my girls made me so proud that day that they swept the snark right out of me (for a good 25 minutes or so ) But now move onto the cocktails and lights, although who decided that an inebriated ride on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster was a good idea I'll never know.
