Is That a Raincloud Over My Head? EMTPEJ's Land & Sea Adventure **Updated 10/28** - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Loved seeing the Poly again. Here's a question for you: how late did the shops stay open? I really want some of the shower gel to take home and I'm planning on stopping by after our MK evening. Do you think they're open until 11 p.m. or should we stop on our way back into the MK?
Beth, just have your DH keep track for you... I obvisously should have had somebody keeping track for me...
According to the info sheet I got from the Poly, the shops stay open until 11:00 PM.
Also, you can order online: ~H2O+ Sea-Derived Skincare
But that is not as much fun...

OMG! You are right! I'm SO embarrassed! Maybe I am a lush! I guess I'll have to give that up... But I just HAD to try them after reading so much about them here! And you're right -- i wasn't driving, we were in WDW, and I had double back-up with Kendra and Kenny around. I didn't have any drinks with dinner, however.

I was really looking forward to it. Dinner at Kona was a bit of a consolation...
I should have my first cruise post soon!

Yes, one should not judge by size, should one? The shrimp and scallops were huge and the desserts were tiny, but it was ALL very yummy! All of my plates VERY throughly I cleaned! (al la Master Yoda).

That would be neat if you have time to be there during the torch lighting ceremony... we never got to see that!
Great updates EJ!! Love your FAB trip around the world in 80 minutes...oh wait... 59 minutes! I know how that raincloud can start to wear you out! Glad you aren't letting it get to you!

Thu. 7/17/08: Episode 10: Will The Raincloud Pursue Us To Port?
Over my morning coffee, I went over my notes about boarding the Wonder and then I went on the prowl, trying to find hidden Mickeys, etc. I did find some:
This trip, I was successful in keeping the boys out of the Moana Mickey Arcade as well as the other ones. Amazing!
It is pretty neat how they have it set up with the game cards. Do you understand how it is when you are trying to choose a video game and only have a little money left? Well, Disney has it set up so each game costs a different amount, so it is more fair, except the exchange rate is a little steep, as a dollar buys you 50 points. You just can’t help but think that the points are equal to pennies, but they are not… the ‘best deal’ is 2000 points for $25.00.
They even had a prize game…I guess it helps them to clear out excess old movies like this one:
I found some other neat stuff...
The Longhouse is Tuvalu.
We used our last CS credits and Kenny, the boys, and I tried to stay of Kendra’s way so she could finish packing. We got the last of our stuff (including all of our souvenirs) into our rented van and headed on down the road. Thanks to a tip from Dave, we stopped long enough to fill up at the Car Care center, which is conveniently located on the way out from the Poly!
The directions to the port were actually pretty easy. The everybody drives pretty fast and we had no trouble with the tolls and I tried to get Kendra to take a photo when we crested the hill approaching the Port, but she was so relieved to see it, she didn’t get it in time. So we got to the Disney terminal and wouldn’t you know it,
IT WASN’T RAINING!
We did not have time to go all the way to the ocean and Cocoa Beach, so we headed on over to the terminal and went through the process of unloading the bags and sending everyone else on ahead while I parked the van. It was good that Kenny was with Kendra and the boys to help things along. Fortunately, thanks to Passporter, I was prepared to pay the increased parking fee when I went in through their gate. I did take the man seriously when he said Florida was an anthill and not leave food in the van. So I obliged by eating up what I could. I was not really sure what I could bring through the security check as it is both similar to and different from the airports. I did have to toss some stuff in the trash can. I tried to park where it would be easier to walk from the terminal when we disembarked.
I finally got through the security checkpoint and up the escalator and met the rest of my family. As we had already checked in at the DCL desk in the Polynesian, we had our ID check and had our KTTW cards scanned and we made our way down the gangway and onboard!
When you board, they announce your name and the crew present applaud and cheer you on, it’s fun! As it was fairly late, we were told the rooms were ready, so we proceeded to our stateroom, and was it nice!
We then went to the Beach Blanket Buffet and I got us the drink special in the keepsake glass. The drink of the day was Bahama Mama. Yummy!
I forget what all I had to eat, other than lots of shrimp. There was plenty and a good selection for the whole family. Once they have it all going, BBB has port and starboard serving areas and each of those has two lines. Not to mention Parrot Cay which I totally forgot about, but it was still nice to be up on deck and look at the port area.
We then went back to our stateroom and got ready for the mandatory emergency drill. We got some photos from our veranda. There were passengers and crew boarding right up until 4 o’clock! I guess we had effectively briefed our group, because no one got upset. Kendra and I are both experienced emergency workers but it can sometimes be hard for us to communicate about hazards without being scary. The boys did fine with the drill, but at least one little kid was scared and started crying. The CMs were very helpful and funny, too!
It is just amazing that they can unload the ship in the morning and then be ready to go that same afternoon! I guess that's why you have to put your bags outside your room the night before...
We got back to the stateroom and what do you think we saw out beyond the terminal?
You guessed it! The raincloud was coming for us! So, it rained and they had to move the sail-away party inside to the lobby. We didn’t go there, but you could hear it all over the ship! We played a little ping-pong up on deck 9 (David has been getting into this game) and watched the proceedings from there and from our verandah.
We dined in Triton’s where we were joined by our charming dining companions, Kim and her daughter Annika, who are from the Atlanta area. I enjoyed the escargot (very garlicky) and the soup and also the seafood, however I don’t recall exactly the names of the dishes. I like to have the seafood whenever possible but the rest of my party sticks with the beef dishes. My dessert was the cherries jubilee (which was delicious). David had the kids ice cream sundae and Kendra and Tim opted for nothing, which is exactly what they got! After Tim wiped the plate clean he said, “Thanks for nothing”! he’s a chip off the ol’ block!
We excused ourselves from the table and explored the ship a little.
Tim and I went to Studio Sea and enjoyed the ‘Who wants to be a Mousekeeter’ game-show type entertainment. It was pretty funny and we guessed most of the answers correctly. It was annoying because they kept choosing contestants from the same party – what’s up with that? When we returned to the stateroom we discovered that it was set up for night-time.
Later, we wound up at the Buena Vista theater which was showing “College Road Trip” with Martin Lawrence and Raven. I wasn’t really excited about seeing this right then as we have the DVD, anyway, but hey, this is everyone’s vacation, so ya gotta compromise. I went to the stateroom for a little while to stretch out and then went back to join the family later. This cinema is really neat because of the very steep seating area so you don't have your view blocked by someone's head. There also were not many people in there as there are so many other things to do! We turned in not long after the film was over and dreamt of The Bahamas and our dolphin encounter tomorrow!
Today the weather was: Cloudy & humid and one storm. The best thing about today was: Starting our cruise! The worst thing about today was: Having to leave the Poly and the Sail-away party being moved inside because of the rain. The funniest thing about today was: Timmy getting 'Nothing' for dessert. Today we tried: A Cruise. And the result was: No one has gotten seasick (yet). The most magical moment today was: Seeing the Wonder for the first time (it is really BIG).
Next up: Will that Raincloud follow us to The Bahamas?
Oooo now you're making me want to take a cruise!!!!!!!! Not Good... I'm in a NO VACATION PLANNING ALLOWED timeout! (Seeing as I had/have 4 vacations in one year! I have to WAIT to plan another vacation until 2010 or 2011 )
Great update! I love all the pictures of the hidden Mickey's and other things around the Poly.
I can vividly remember cresting that hill on the way to the port from our cruise back in 1997. That trip was the first time I had ever seen an ocean. Can't wait to hear about your dolphin encounter. Love the "nothing" for dessert - that's priceless.
Great updates EJ!! Love your FAB trip around the world in 80 minutes...oh wait... 59 minutes! I know how that raincloud can start to wear you out! Glad you aren't letting it get to you!

Hmmm... we are planning to go on a cruise in 2011 to celebrate Tim's HS graduation.

More please!
Thanks! I have both the PP Treasure Hunts book and the Hidden Mickeys book. I also have my son who has gotten into it!
BTW -- it was Thursday so, the kids menu was 'Hercules' theme -- David had pizza every night.
The dolphin encounter was an interesting time spent out of the 'Disney Bubble'.
I did kind of give them a hint about what to do -- thanks to something I read here!

2-pack at least 30 tops, 15 bottoms, enough socks and undergarments for double that, anddddd
3- BUY NEW STUFF while on vacation

the meals looked great.
I cant believe that pesky could following you. ugh
