Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I should mention that before we left for Epcot that evening we had a message blinking on our phone. Andy called it and they told him we had mail. It was from Kelly so Andy handed the phone over to me and the operator read it to me. She wanted us to know that if we needed anything while we were there to let her know!!!! (The operator specifically said there were 4 exclamation marks, so she meant business!) Then she asked me if anyone had welcomed us properly when we arrived. I figured she meant a CM when we checked in and said yes. Then she asks "Was it Goofy?" Well no.. so she puts me on hold and says she has a phone call for me. So I get to listen to Goofy welcome me to Disney! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/thewave.gif[/img]
So, we got to Epcot in hopes of seeing the British Invasion play. However I was "SO STUPID" (ala Chris Farley...) [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif[/img] They don't play on Mondays. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that, but completely forgot when I planned! So what did we do instead?? [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img] I had my pint of Harp and Andy had his can of Guiness. We found a nice cool spot over by the water to drink and relax.
I took a moment to call my mom and let her know we were there and having a good time. Then we took a walk around England. Andy got a little out of hand..
And we decided that we just love this area back here...around the cottages and the garden. It's just so beautiful back there.
We were going to walk over to Japan to see if Miyuki was here or on vacation. I snapped some photos along the way.
 
When we got to Japan the drummers were playing
I went in the store to ask about Miyuki, and [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] she was on vacation. She will be back in August. Oh well, we'll see her next time (I love having a reason to say next time).
We made our way back to England. It was around 7 and our ADR was for 7:30. I wanted to check in early so we could request a table by the water. The guy told us that everyone requests that and it just all depends on how many people are here at that time. Then he said he could seat us now b/c there was an open table. So we were like "Heck yeah!" He told us that we'd have to tell our server that we wanted to stay for Illuminations but when he went to check on the table he talked to her for us and she said it was no problem. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/applause.gif[/img] Yea!!

Our lovely waitres, Jenna, took this picture for us. Notice how there's nothing on the table. Andy moved all the pints for the picture so it would be parent safe [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img]
This one really doesn't need any explanation
For our appetizers, I had the fruit and cheese plate. Oh - my - gosh it was soooo good!! Andy had the stewed mushroom soup. It looked really good, but it had a potato-y taste and I didn't like it as much as he did.

For our meal I had the fish and chips of course. And Andy had the Chicken Pastry,
 
I accidentally flashed on mine (I think it was the pints [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img])
The food was delicious. The fish and chips were a big hit and Andy really enjoyed his dish. He has mentioned it a few times since we got back.
The pints were starting to get to me and I had to make a restroom run. (this will be important in a second). We ordered our desserts when I got back. I ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Andy, of course, ordered the Guiness Cake. So, we're sitting there, waiting on Illuminations to start. I was playing with my camera, getting it ready on my monopod, looking like a big nerd, when all of a sudden I heard this banging like a cowbell and hooping and hollering. I thought "boy, they get excited about Illuminations around here" I looked at Andy to see if he thought the same thing, and then I realized that the party was heading towards us.... And it was loud!! Apparently whilst I was in the bathroom Andy told our waitress to do whatever they could that was embarrassing for my birthday. So our waitress yells it out to everyone and everyone sings. I have video of it but no pictures. It was my birthday week...so that counts!
We enjoyed our dessert during Illuminations. (Another Oh My Gosh...that dessert was to die for!) Here are a few Illuminations photos. They're not the best but I was busy enjoying the show. This one just gets me every time!
 
After the show we made our way out. I had to make another pit stop [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] (broke the seal...you know how it goes). Andy snapped some shots inside the pub area. It's so pretty in there I think.
We made our way to the front of the park and laughed about how last trip we were at Epcot on our first night, and in a similar state [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/toast.gif[/img] and how we had fun shopping through Mousegear at closing. So why not see what we could find this time! I stopped to take a pretty night shot:
We were successful in finding something crazy... But Andy wouldn't let me get them [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I wonder why?? [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]
We didn't really find anything to drop some serious cash on, but I did see things that I made a mental note to remember for later. We continued out of the park, and my goofy mental state made me stop and take this picture just b/c the ball had pretty colors on it [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]
It took me like 5 attempts to get one that I liked [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img] Good times, good times [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
We didn't have to wait long for a bus and pretty soon we were back at the CBR...our first day was complete.

The food looked so [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/yuma.gif[/img] at R&C. I will be eating there for the first time this fall. I can't wait. Your view for illuminations was amazing. I always have trouble taking pictures of the night time displays at the parks. I'm so busy watching I forget.

What a great evening you guys had and the food looks really good! Rose & Crown has never really appealed to me before but I think I am changing my mind and will need to try it one day soon.
