We Can Fly, We Can Fly, We Can Fly......We Flew Trip Report - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Getting caught up again. We had such great interaction with Chip and Dale. I have a hard time understanding what some of the characters are trying to communicate, but I got better by the end of the trip. Great day at AK and way to enjoy getting wet! Nice pixie dust getting to ride KRR twice!
Abby really does take some great pics! Sounds like a good day at AK, and score on riding KRR twice in a row.
The PP pics came out really nice too. I love the one of the 3 of you with Belle, but bc of Abby. Very cute. I also like the candid one of her talking to the chipmunks. I love candid shots!
Sounds like early bedtime was a good idea, you've all been up and Adam, and packing a lot into your days. Good to get some rest too!
What a great day at AK. I love the interaction you had with Mickey at TH. I can't wait to take my folks there. It will be the 1st character meal they have ever had. I hope we have the same kind of interaction with the characters. My dad is a "Donald" at times and it would be fun to have them together in a "fit".

Waiting for our next adventure after enjoying our Alaska cruise. Jenn
Abby got some great pictures on the safari. Sounds like a wonderful day at AK, YEAH for Lenny and Abby for riding EE. The photopass pictures were wonderful to see.
Glad you got to enjoy the Mara and wandering AKL, we love it there and I could definitely see you guys enjoying it there as well, there is always something going on and something to see.
A great day at AK!! Love that Mickey tried to borrow Lenny's scooter. Things like that are priceless memories. Abby did a wonderful job taking pictures on the safari. Sorry it started to rain so you weren't able to enjoy Dinoland.
Wow, you have had some busy days so far. I love the Mickey interaction at Tusker House. We've always enjoyed our character breakfasts there. It's a shame about the rain, but it sounds like it doesn't last long and you're still getting a lot of things accomplished.
We were on the fence about going to Sea World this trip (we've done it before) but your pics and description of your days there made my decision-we're going! Yeah!
All caught up. You guys really had some great adventures. It has been years since we have been to Sea World. You report makes me want to go back. Abby is doing good with her pictures. Nice shots of the zebras on the safari. They are sometimes hard to find and to get good pix. Your interaction with Chip and Dale was most excellent. They are fun to play with. The Mickey scooter incident is one to remember. I really believe that all of the characters enjoy their jobs and try to make the guests' experiences unforgettable. Very lucky that you had some treats caused by the low crowd levels. My grand-daughter and I went to BB in July. The crowds were horrific. We floated in the lazy river for hat seemed like hours. We got separated and I searched for her in the park for more than an hour before I found her still floating in the river. We did Summit Plummet one time. It took us almost 150 minutes to go from the queue at the bottom to the top of the slide. Glad to see you were having such a wonderful time.
What a great day at AK! I loved all the safari photos, what a photographer Abby is. Your interaction with Mickey was hilarious as well as chip and dale. Alex actually keeps pointing to pictures of EE (loved the smile you used for that btw) and saying "wanna go?". We've watched a ride video on YouTube and he seems interested in it so maybe he will tackle the Yeti this year if he's tall enough. Looking forward to more!
I really don't know where she gets the photography skill from but yes, she does a very good job. How does Alex do on things like Thunder Mountain? I ask because while BTM and EE are similar, EE goes backwards in pitch black darkness and the drop is larger and faster than on BTM. YouTube doesn't give the full extent of the ride so I have to caution you against thinking EE is a really tame ride. Abby first went on it at 8 and she really didn't like it then. She did it again this year (5 years later) but still wasn't thrilled with it.

That's great that my TR is making you excited for your own trip. That's part of the fun (IMO) of reading them - and the reason why I read them myself before our trips. I'm glad you're enjoying my TR too.

AK is our favorite park, and you all got lots done in 1 day!! Yes, I agree with Lenny with the drivers taking the pictures!!! I know with the heat in August Kali River Rapids had to be a super great ride. We are so silly, we wear our Ponchos. Well another wonderful post.
That's what so great about getting the Photopass - it's well worth the money for the memories. We like AK, that's why we spend so many hours there (usually 7:30 - the time we park the car - until park closing) and this year, the short lines for the M&G were a "bonus" as there have been other times we've avoided the lines.
You're not the first people to ride Kali with ponchos and you certainly won't be the last. We finally decided to leave the ponchos in the car as when it's that hot, I really hate putting it on. I'm already hot and bothered and the ponchos just make it worse. This year we stuck to the umbrellas so we won't do ponchos in the future to even put on at Kali even if we wanted to.

Yeah, Lenny is pretty funny when it comes to Splash. He hates the drop but always lets go I think to prove to himself he can actually do the ride. AK was definitely a day for character interactions but maybe you should stay tuned. There could be more

This past Christmas we all went in the boneyard and all of my children (including the 6'1 teenager) played and no one said a word to us.....
In the past, we've been able to go to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground and the Boneyard without any problems. I had heard that Disney was starting to enforce a "10 or under" policy for the two playgrounds but I don't know if this "new" policy is indeed fact or just something people are passing along as such. I wanted to go there to confirm it myself for us and my fellow PPers but Abby wanted nothing to do with that part of the park so I still don't know what the actual truth is.

Thanks Cam, we did have a great day with meals and character interactions and exploring. Lenny wants to go back to the AKL in the future to eat there again and explore even more. He said it kind of felt like we were still in the park so he wasn't all that disappointed with leaving the park so early that day.

I'm not entirely sure. I'm thinking it may be because it keeps popping up with my BB photos but it's so dark in there when you're at the park that it's hard for me to say. I didn't notice enough details to know what was actually in there - especially since in several spots, there's water pouring down on top of people.

I agree, sometimes it's really tough to know exactly what they're "saying" to us. Mickey was quite clear though - he moved his hands like he was driving a car, he pointed at the scooter, then he pointed at me, the scooter and made the sign of a phone up to his ear. It was definitely pixie dust getting to ride Kali twice - and I for one was grateful - it was much needed on that day.

Thanks. I'm glad you like the TR, especially the pictures. My mother (who thinks my TR is boring BTW) thinks I'm putting in too many pictures. She's not reading it here on the boards, I've given her a "modified" printed copy sans smilies and pictures but I've told her about the amount of pictures I put but she still thinks it's too many. I'm glad you guys are proving her wrong and that you do enjoy them.
Getting rest at Disney? Yes, it's always a good idea but not always easy to do for me. I try, but it seems like I always find something else I have to do first (get ready for the next day, organize my receipts, etc).

It was the most appropriate smilie for Lenny in that instance. I had to use it.

Thanks, it was a great day. It's always best when you get really good interaction with the characters. At TH though, Donald is only outside for pictures so you may not get too much interaction with him but I'm sure you'd get some sort of reaction from Daisy if you point out your dad is like Donald.
It was sooooo great to see you. Crazy how it's like seeing an old friend, isn't it? I would have talked longer, but my boys and my mom were ready to go I hope our paths cross again sometime!!!!

Thanks - I'm glad you're enjoying my TR and all the photos. We did have a wonderful day at AK and I was very proud of both Lenny and Abby for trying EE. You never know when you'll like something if you don't try it. If the deluxe resorts were more within our budget, we'd probably stay there but at least we can always visit there in the meantime.

Thanks - we do have great memories of that day. Mickey, the chipmunks, Kali. Yeah, Abby didn't want to do Dinoland but we still have great memories of that day so no complaints from us about it.

The rain was on and off that day but when I'm in Disney, I don't let it get me down or stop it. Busy days are a part of Disney IMO - or maybe I should say they're busy for me. I don't know how to do anything else I guess.

Thanks for all of your commetns. We did have a good time, Abby's pictures are really good and the characters are really fun. As for your time at BB, you must have been out of your mind with worry. I know I would have been. I wasn't at SW because I figured she couldn't have been too far away and it didn't take me long to find her. Had it been any longer - and in an entire park instead of one attraction - you'd probably have to put me in a padded cell.

We did have a great time - and in the weeks since we've been home we've commented several times we wanted more time at Disney.
