As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I think it was my favorite app on my Magic cruise as well. I had heard so much about this amazing and delectable course prior to my cruise from you and Cheryl. I love my food and just amazing in every way and no faults!

We were glad we went through when we were awake. Originally for some reason we thought we'd be going through the Straits around 4 am. Going through as the sun was setting just added to the experience, I think.

If I don't see something on the main course menu, I've been known to order a double order of those truffle pursettes instead!
I was pretty happy with the shot of the moon, especially since I didn't have a tripod.
Cadiz - September 18
We had room service this morning which worked well. Cereal, croissants, muffins, fruit bowl, bananas and coffee. We watched the ship come into the port of Cadiz.
We ordered Hop On Hop Off bus tickets, figuring that would give the best chance of seeing more of the port. We did have trouble, though, with the electronic voucher. This was VERY frustrating as Viator (the tour folks I often use when traveling) clearly stated you could use either an electronic or paper voucher. We hadn’t decided on this tour until we were onboard, so I didn’t have a printer to get a paper copy. Plus so many places now will just scan your smart phone. The folks in Cadiz just wouldn’t do that - no matter how many times I pointed out the statement that said “electronic voucher acceptable”. After 20 minutes or more they finally got something figured out and let us on the bus. We opted to start by doing a complete loop, which ended up being a good idea and a bad one…..
The bus loop doesn’t really show much, as it turns out the majority of what you want to see is in the old city, and buses can’t drive through there at all. So you go around the perimeter on the bus. We did see the beaches, and that was nice, as well as a fort.
Before we were even to the 4th entry on the audio tour, it was clear Mike was fading. He’d had insomnia the night before and hadn’t slept at all (and been chilled on deck 10 before that). We made it a bit more than halfway through the cathedral before I realized I needed to get him back to the ship. We missed the crypt (which later I heard was the real highlight of the cathedral) and the museum. I walked Mike back to the ship - praying we’d make it all the way back, as we didn’t have the wheelchair today. So that was the good and bad of the bus - I felt we’d wasted time, limiting how much Mike got to see of Cadiz so that was bad, but it did help us realize most of what we wanted to see/do was a short walk from the ship, so that was good I guess.
What a great tour on such a beautiful day! How were the temps? The city is beautiful and you're just beginning! The interior of the cathedrale is amazing with all the white marble which brings out so much inside! I wish more cathedrale interiors were like this and not darker colors as many seem to be. I remember visiting one in Lucerne and it was breathtaking with the bright white marble! I don't think it was a Catholic church and may have been Turkish, if I recall!
As Cheryl has visited Lucerne, perhaps she can sustain the validity of this as I think this may be the case! If not, I'll check through my notes from then and photos. It's 1995, but have all of this still!

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful place. Good to know about the hop on/hop off bus, as we often do those to see as much of a city as possible. The cathedral looks stunning.

Yes, we normally find the HOHO to give you a good lay of the land, so to speak, and maybe see a few highlights from a distance if you’re only there a short time. But I wouldn’t recommend it in Cadiz. Just head to the old part of town and immerse yourself in the sights there.
That said, I do like some of my beach pictures - especially with the boats as the tide was out.

It was warm, but not hot, as I recall. Although felt pretty warm later in the day if you were in full sun. But I think it was in the mid to upper 70’s.
I agree that the lighter color marble in churches is someone more welcoming. Those that are so dark seem more foreboding to me.
