Please Help = too big for the rides ??? - Page 14 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Tiff,
I was a big girl too on our first trip to WDW - 5 foot 3 and 285 lbs. I was worried to, but I fit in all the rides!! After much work and effort (and a little help from the doctor) I lost 100 pounds and now I fit that much better in the rides at WDW!!!!! Want to lose around 30 to 40 more and then I'll be happy!!!!

OMG - He's sooooo grown up!!!! And an EAGLE SCOUT!! I can still remember my cute little Tiger Cub! 2016 Reading Goal - 75 books
Thank you all for your kind words! We are DEFINITELY going! I had to have my little break down moment but all is well. Reservations are booked, tickets bought today. ONLY $365 roundtrip for both of us from NY.
Everyone's comments have made this feel more doable. And if I stop and think I remember that I saw all kinds of folks when I was there last time. Don't know why I am being so silly.
Thanks and wish us luck! Only a few more weeks. Okay lots more weeks but it will be here soon!!!

Have a great trip!! I just booked our airfare for April trip and we have to go two different airlines just to get $250.00 per person! Eek is right.

Yay!! I'm glad to hear that!! That's a great deal on airfare too!
None of the three of us were uncomfortable last January ('09), and we're all over 300 pounds, each. Everything was just fine and dandy for us. Once or twice a safety bar felt a bit snug (Expedition Everest, IIRC), but never uncomfortably so.
I am also a big girl, 5'8 around 350... I wear a size 28 most of my weight in in my fanny and thighs and I had NO problems at all!! I was terrified too, being from OH I have went to Kings Island and Cedar Point and couldn't ride anything!! I would get so upset too, but WDW was wonderful I rode RRC and EE and all the Mts. without a bit of problem... so no worries Disney understands that the world is not a size 2...
I am probably the biggest poster on this thread. To be specific I am 6ft tall, weigh 470lbs, and waist of 54in....... I did lots of reading here and on the net before our trip to WDW because I was worried about fitting and safety while having fun with my 4yr old. Long and the short....had a blast. Walked about 6mi. a day and over the entire week could not fit on only 2 rides and squeezed into one. I might of been able to make them fit but it did not feel right....so some day I will get to ride the Astro Orbiter and Star Tours and squeezed into Mission Space. We did not ride any big roller coasters like Space Mountain but enjoyed the Primeval Whirl and yes even the Tea Cups!
Favorite ride = Splash Mountain and a close second was Soarin'!
My advice no matter what worries you may be holding on to have a positive attitude and have fun. Ask the cast members if they think you will have issues that's why they are there! I hope this helps!

Just wanted to add that on Soarin' if you have a problem buckling your belt, just ask the CM...they are more than happy to help. I thought I had my belt buckled, but couldn't see the clasp, and come to find out it wasn't buckled and the CM was more than happy to help me out. The only ride I had a problem w/was the dinosaur ride. It wasn't that I couldn't fit, the ride killed my hips from all the bumping around! lol Also, with the turnstiles, don't be afraid to ask to use the stroller/wheelchair gate. This is what I had to do to ride the railroad. The CM again was more than happy to oblige.

Another handy tip is to put deoderant or rub some petroleum jelly on your inner thighs to help prevent chaffing.
I absolutely LOVE this forum... you people really DO help alleviate many fears for those of us who are not "perfect"!
I just wanted to add that I found a great product for chafing called "Glide". It's usually found around the sneaker section of any sports store (it costs around $10, but lasts a long time). It goes on like a stick deodorant, and doesn't rub off on clothing or in water.
I use it on my thighs before hitting the parks, and sometimes on my arms (if my bathing suit underwire starts rubbing the bicep area). It stays on all day long, and completely prevents any sore spots from forming. I can wear a swimsuit all day, and even wear a sundress with no hose or bike shorts... and I have no problems!
Oh, and my 2 cents worth... I'm Pooh sized (size 20/22), and have never had a problem on any ride at Disney!
Anyway -- thanks again, you lovely people, for making everyone feel good and welcome! Group hug for all of you!
I was just wondering -- I registered two Passporters, but only one is showing up on my bookshelf. Am I doing something wrong? I see that you have many!
im also nervous this year. we are going in july, and lets just say i gained a little weight from the last time i was there in '06. im doing my best to lose some of it before then, but i just have this fear of getting there and being told im too big... if i remember correctly, last time i thought ToT was alittle tight...has anyone recently been on this ride?
