The Continuing Story of the Adventures of a CM! - Page 139 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It sounds like things are going in the right direction and exciting to hear about your new job.
It's hard to see our kids grow but my father always said you do your best for 18 years and then it's up to them. Of course, I was still in school at 21 as it my youngest and it really does provide a buffer.
I did want to comment I picked up "eclipse" curtains for my bay window, to try to stop the heat drain. My kids thought they were way too dark and wanted me to take them back. They have gotten used to them, but you really need to use a light in the living room now. Of course, I am pretty far north and my living room has a northern exposure.
Good luck this weekend! I'll be thinking about you.
Dawn, my DD started using a sleep mask (about $10 at Bed, Bath & Beyond) when she first moved into the dorm several years ago. She still sleeps with one all the time now. It could be a help if the windows are still a problem. Good luck!
Here's an Alaskan solution for too much light coming in the windows.....cover them with aluminum foil. Yeah, I said aluminum foil. Lots of people do that here, not real attractive, but it works. I've never done it, but having lived in Alaska my whole life, I am used to light at midnight and sleeping through it.

OMG - He's sooooo grown up!!!! And an EAGLE SCOUT!! I can still remember my cute little Tiger Cub! 2016 Reading Goal - 75 books
Another suggestion to add to the light problem: Black trash bags. Like the aluminum foil, it is not all that attractive, but it works. My DDad worked 3rd shift for 20+ years and he swore by his black plastic. When he had work done to the house he used some of the left over insulation board in the windows and then added the black plastic on top (at this point the plastic wasn't needed, but he was used to it) and that kept the room cooler in our hot South Texas summers.
I know you are going to do wonderful in your new role.
Congrats on your new post. Things are moving in the right direction for you and remember that if you hit a bump...you're going down the right road, but there's always going to be some potholes.
Good luck with the new position.
Sounds like you got the sunlight problem handled. It is a great start to what you will be doing in your new role.
Hope you have a great last day with your internship.
Good luck getting used to the night shift. DH used to work nights when we first got married and I remember all the rituals we had so he could sleep: blankets over window, phone unplugged, daysleeper sign on our door. It just takes a little time to figure out what works for you!
Wow what a year. And I as all others have enjoyed your journal. Now, will you end this one and start a new one, or continue on. We all want ot be kept in the loop about your new adventures
So. It's finally here. "WDW CM" Act 2: fade to black. Exit stage right...I'm normally not a drama queen, but it was so weird saying goodbye tonight. I'm still going to be at the same resort and I'll still be seeing many of the same people if I can time things right, so it wasn't *really* "goodbye", but still very odd. I simply cannot believe that I have gone from CP to statused duty manager in one year and one day. Please do not pinch me, I do NOT want to wake up from this most lovely dream-come-true.
I have a pillow from the Grand Floridian that has this on it:
"A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling thru
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true"
I still get verklempt when I think about the path my dream has taken, where it has led me, and how exciting it is to get to see where it may still go.
Thank you, dear readers, for all of the encouragement, support, kicks in the pants, and pixies you have given me over the past year (and then some) along this journey. Please believe me when I tell you that I could NEVER have done this without you. I know that sounds sappy or corny, but it is the absolute truth. On days I did not want to go on or was scared brainless, I knew you were all out there, rooting for me and that gave me strength well beyond my own. You are all, truly, "the wind beneath my wings" and I can never thank you enough.

Aw Gray, you made me tear up....I'm a relatively 'new joiner' to your thread, but I truly love reading about your experiences and I have the utmost respect for the decisions you have made for yourself and your daughters. Wishing you continued success in your new role, can't wait to follow on the new thread!!!
