As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). No it wasn't just you with that cheese appetiser - it wasn't very well presented, that was my first thought when I saw the photo of it. It's a shame that the Hollywood Brown Derby doesn't seem to quite manage signature status, as we've found that in the past. We're going back for lunch on our next trip, so it'll be interesting to see what we make of it then.
I felt the same way about California Grill. The only meal where our server led me to a bad choice away from what I should have ordered. The trio dessert plate was cute but laughable as we thought to share it and realized there were about three mouthfuls of food on the plate. I took photos of all my meals, I really should do a report some day.... for signature status it was definitely NOT my favorite meal of the trip.
So loving your reviews (and enjoyed all your teasers while you were traveling).
The tea looked wonderful, I am not a tea drinker but a few years ago I went with friends and tea or not I just had the most amazing time, just so relaxing and those little tea sandwiches were so good (i had a reduced selection due to allergies but what I had was yummy)....and I even had some tea.
My older daughter will be going for her birthday next month and I know she will just enjoy it so much, I just sent her a link to your post as I know she will love seeing all the pictures.
BOG - I have to agree with the bread, while not glutten free that is the option that they gave me for my allergies (which surprised me as last time I had the same allergies and they gave me the nice soft, crusty bread which I really enjoyed).
I ended up eating the roast beef without the bread as it just fell apart. I was not very happy with it and as you said I have had GF bread at other locations (as many times that is the safe bread for me) and it has indeed been much better.
I have to agree with HBD, not worth the two credit, we just ate here in November (not on the dining plan) and we enjoyed our meals but the service was not up to par for what you would expect from a signature and while the food was good, it wasn't one of those meals where I would say I have to go back next trip.
The menu looked interesting which is why we went back, but with so many wonderful places to eat at WDW, we will probably skip HBD for a while.
Lunch at Rose & Crown which delighted on a miserably drizzly, chilly day.
Dinner at Artist Point was quite good foodwise but had any number of atrocious service issues.

Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare was fun but not fabulous food, so no review or photos. As with most character meals, it's the experience and not the food that generally pleases.
For one thing, I'm not sure why a chef thinks an adult wants gluten-free Mickey waffles topped with gummy worms. As a child, I'd have delighted in the combination, but at this point in my life--cranky--I don't want gummy worms on my food. They were very fine gummy worms in their own right, but honestly, only a child or a sugar-addicted adult could enjoy this combo.

Eeeew, as a vegetarian I often am not drawn to descriptions of meat dishes, but your appetizer sounds like more of a disaster than should be possible! Pork, scallop, raspberry, red wine--?? As you say, why oh why would you put all that together? I agree that the cheese plate is just not appealing. I've always loved HBD, but I don't do the dining plan so never even knew it was considered a "signature". I'd agree, it's not quite that. I happily go time after time because they have one of the best veggie/ vegan dishes I've had anywhere-- the Thai noodle bowl. I never get an appetizer and rarely dessert. Now I think I'd better stop recommending this place so urgently to others, as I think this dish must be an exception!
I suspect you may be correct, Laurie, that the delicious noodle bowl is one of the few things HBD does well.
I did have a fairly good Cobb salad there last year which would have been fine had the ingredients been a little fresher, as I recall. But then, Cobb salad is pretty difficult to screw up since its makeup is somewhat standard.
I had my doubts about most of the dinner menu and really should have chosen something simple and basic, maybe asking for some broiled fish and steamed veggies. If they ruined those, I'd be certain the place isn't worthy of being a signature.
If this weren't a mostly Disney and entirely family-friendly site, I'd be exhausting my bad language vocabulary due to Drew's learning yesterday that he has to work four hours of mandatory overtime by Friday because he has a vacation day on Saturday. One of the relatively few nasty aspects of working for the Big Mama phone company, AT&T, so I really ought not complain very much. He attempted to cut a deal which didn't work out, so he's working an extra hour every day and taking half hour lunches tomorrow and Friday.
Consequently, what with both of us feeling arthritic as a result of snow forecast for the remainder of the week, we're focusing upon surviving the workweek instead of posting the Rose and Crown and Artist Point reviews with pics which we thought surely we'd get up by Sunday at the latest. Maybe can nevertheless.
Both reviews are complete but no way Drew can plug in the photos until the weekend. Besides, I spent most of the afternoon today composing and polishing those two, thereby neglecting such fun chores as cleaning the oven and sorting the fridge for "walkables" (leftovers and other stuff that's fostered so much primordial life it threatens to walk out when you open the door. We all have some, you know you do. )
So, like the Poly, this TR is frustratingly "under construction" until further notice.

Hmmmmm, was the dessert a lemon-three-ways by any chance? That's what I ordered when we ate there last year, and it was not only three itty-bitty bites but had these three little blobs of incredibly hardbaked meringue just sitting there one-two-three, leaving me mystified about how to eat them (or why anyone would want to, I concluded). Couldn't get a fork into them or spoon under. Dynamite, perhaps?

No, I cannot recall the exact title of the dessert, but it was a three-part plate. On the left was a little jar -like a mason jar, lid and all - with some kind of caramel concoction. The middle was a teeny milkshake glass with paper straw and a "Rootbeer Float", and on the right was like a square votive candle holder with a berry crumble and either ice cream or cheesecake, I cannot tell from the photo.
Terribly cute, but seriously like a bite or two per item. Not for sharing.
Actually, given the individual size of each - if they would have served these kind of cute and tasty desserts at the Frozen Premium Dessert party over at DHS, I would have been happy to have them there. Much better quality than what was served at the party.
I checked All Ears menu, and they have something called a Sundae Sampler:
Sundae Sampler - Unique and playful Sundaes with a nostalgic twist: Caramel Corn, Coke Float, and Strawberry and Basil
It was something like this and probably that was what it was called.

Really, I ought not complain as from January until September this year, he had 8-12 hours of it EVERY week.
By the time that ended, we were both worn out, him from such a grueling schedule for so long, me from scarcely seeing him awake when at home. I think we got spoiled, having gotten accustomed to a regular week again.
Oh, well. As he says in such situations, "Like we have a choice."
