Mom & Me, Work & Fun PTR (Sept. 7-14, 2013) - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My internet decided to do a major crash again this weekend. It was down when I came home from town on Friday and they finally got us back up a little earlier this afternoon. I will say I was a bit frustrated, because I'm trying to get all my bills and paperwork caught up before I leave and this was my weekend to get it going. I also was worried because my ADR booking window for part of our Feb. trip is tomorrow and the rest is on Saturday. I'm happy it is working again!

Good luck with your app and PP meets! They are always fun!
I'm hoping to sneak a meet or two in. I've never had one before, it would be fun.
This last week has been a little crazy and then my internet crashing for most of the weekend really messed me up. I was planning to double check my food budget to make sure I had put enough in savings for the trip but instead I spent the weekend cleaning some and reading a book. Not really productive toward all the things I need to do, but I was enjoying it. I am hoping to finish the book before the trip (I will take my Nook on the trip).
I managed to add a few more things to the suitcase. At this point I have a new deodorant, hair ties, hair gel, my face products, Q-tips, sunscreen, lotion, and kitchen trash bags (for dirty laundry).
I also got my Disney Dooney & Bourke Pins bag out (it is large and perfect for the airport). I put my small cross-body bag in it (for the parks), my pins/lanyard and my camera in this. Most the other items for this bag are in my regular purse, and I will transfer them before I leave.
I cleaned swept and mopped the kitchen and dining room yesterday. It was a huge mess because on Thursday I had a horrible migraine and I had to take my migraine meds, these tend to make me dizzy and lightheaded and I have to lay day and feel somewhat miserable for about 2 hours (better than the 8-9 for a full blown migraine). Shana cooked dinner (Hamburger Helper with peas), but the kids did a terrible job cleaning up and I did not have a chance to get to it with us going to town on Fri. It wasn't as bad as it looked but it did take some time to get all cleaned up.
Today I focused on my bills and some crap I have to deal with the IRS on. I still have to finish up some of the bills stuff tonight. Most of our bills are due on the 10th and I usually just drop them off at all the places in our tiny town (this is 6 bills and takes all of 10 minutes to personally deliver them all). But since I will be gone I am setting up electronic bill pay with my bank, because Pat would forget to drop them all off.
And my final little update will be the weight loss update. Although sadly there is nothing to update. I have been so stressed and in town too much and we haven't been eating at home several days. I haven't weighed myself but I am certain I am between 223-224. I would really like to be below 220 for the trip and I only have 13 days, which really is possible, if I get back on track. Please send pixies in hopes that I can get back quickly and at least get a little below before the trip. When I return I really have to buckle down and do better. I have no will power and it's hard with kids home all day, I tend to snack too much.

Every time I read one of your planning updates I realize how far behind I am. I don't have all the home prep that you do, but I've done nothing about pre-packing or sorting clothes or getting bags out. It's under 2 weeks now!!
Sounds like you have made headway on trip preparations
Weight loss headed your way
I'm getting there! I'm hoping to be mostly packed before Pat comes home, don't want my one day with him to be me packing to leave. Thanks for the pixies.

I usually have the laundry basket out that I start throwing things in a month before, for this trip I brought it out at three weeks. The only reason I drug a suitcase out was because Chessie kept sneaking all the stuff out of the laundry basket. I also only have me to pack for which make it super easy.

Hopefully we will both make it! for you weight loss as well!
for your weight loss (YOU CAN DO IT!!!) and for finishing up the packing!
I know when I get back I can easily get back on track, I think I'm being a bit lazy with the diet, knowing I'm leaving soon. I'm worried because the packing is seeming way too easy, but I'm sure it's because it's just me.
Today was more business than fun. We did school and the kids are starting to get into routine, finally! I spent a good part of the day reconciling the tenant ledger for my mom's business. She is trying to sell it and the landlord overcharged her by about $23,000 and insists they are correct. She finally has a meeting with them tomorrow and she knows I'm good with numbers and spreadsheets so she sent everything to me. It is such an obvious error I can't believe they are arguing it.
In Disney planning I did a few things today. I actually booked our first ADR for our stay the night before the cruise in February (sorry you will have to wait for that PTR for the details). I can't make the rest of the ADR's till later this week for our stay after the cruise.
For this trip I decided my itineraries are good-to-go and I printed out three copies and cut them down. I put one copy in in PP pockets for each day. The second copy is for my mom. The third copy I attached to the maps for each day. I went through and sorted the maps out by where I plan on us being each day and attached the itinerary to the maps for that day. I will plan to keep all the maps with us, in case I finish early or we end up changing up the plans. I'm going to put these in my checked bag because it's more than I want to carry. I'm a bit nervous, because if I lose these maps (I'm also going to use them to track photos taken) then it could cause big problems. So, today I also transferred the files to a flash drive that I put in my "airport" purse, just in case.
That is about it for the plans today. I talked to Pat today and his replacement has arrived at his location, so he is on track to arrive home on time. I still feel bad that I will see him for 1 day and then leave, but I will have a full week with him when I get back.
Weight Loss: I will weigh in tomorrow and although I'm not counting on a "loss" this week, I am proud of myself that I am doing well on my exercise. I have been doing my runs 3x a week and my pilates most the other days. We will see what I can do this week. I still might get under 220 for the trip.
Glad the kids are settling down to the school routine-- just in time for you to leave and have them get used to vacation again! Your mom is lucky to have you to check her books. That's no small sum to get overcharged. Glad Pat will soon be home again!
Sounds like you have everything in place. I'm sure Pat understands about you leaving, plus it gives him time with just the kids for a while too. It's a win-win
