Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Meri always loves an audience, lol. She did a good job. I was the one on the verge of the meltdown, lol.

The flight to Paris is a little over an hour, I think. Easy peasy - especially since it's not standby!

He may be there, but it's the one Disney park in the world I won't do characters. There's no order to the lines (at least there wasn't the last time we tried) and we were upset to see how the French parties were seen before any British - that left a really sour taste in our mouth, watching a British child constantly ignored, so we decided not to bother with them again. This was a lot of years ago, so things may have improved since then, but unless I know they have, I won't risk it again. I just found it too much hassle and it annoyed me as well.
Oh man, yeah, that wouldn't work at all for me... I'd get mad and the New Yawk would come out, lol. I'll eyeball it perhaps and see what's what, but I will prep Meri when we get there, telling her we're focusing on rides and that we've already met all the characters, but we can wave when we go past. That way if it looks like they've changed things, we maybe can say hi to one character with a short line, but I'm not going to waste the one day we have at DLP standing in really long lines (or masses of people with no lines) for characters we were hanging out with a week ago! LOL!

A fair percentage of the traffic at DLP is local. Given that schools are still in session both in France and in England and it is exam season at both I'm hoping the crowds will not be too too bad on Friday. The najority of the children there should be preschool age.

We are pretty much all packed. Today we slept in and then spent the morning packing. I think we got the weight of the bags distributed evenly enough that I shouldn't have a problem. My big suitcase isn't even all the way full. Worst case if I'm a few pounds over, we've got a contingency plan, since mom's carry-on has plenty of room in it for an emergency! I think we should be ok though. Here's hoping! I just checked in, and got row 5, seats a-c. Meri will get the window, I'll be in the middle, and mom can have the aisle.

We'll hit the zoo this afternoon, after we shower and grab a snack. Then it's early-ish to bed, we hope, because we want to be up and out by 930am. We don't know how long it will take us to get to the airport (we are debating between a taxi and the metro - mom wants to do the metro, because it's only $2 each. I don't want to juggle all of the stuff on the metro. Especially with all of those stairs. She's also worried that if we call a taxi to come pick us up, they won't show, and we'll miss the flight. She's had bad experiences with taxis in the past. We'll see...

I can not WAIT to get to Paris, though! Home sweet home of my heart! I can't wait to see if I still love it as much as I remember!

Ok, off to shower and get going, finally, I guess. I've enjoyed sleeping in and taking my time today. Meri spent the morning creating a race car out of a cardboard box, and now she's racing her baby doll around the living room. Cracks me up! I'm just glad she's amusing herself.

Sounds like you are set!
I agree with you, though, the idea of traipsing on the metro with the luggage does not appeal! Good luck transitioning from Barcelona to Paris!
I squealed when I saw Cheryl's countdown says it's only 22 hours until her PP meet!! That's YOU!! And Hazel!

Glad you've got the luggage sorted. I wouldn't like the idea of the metro for getting to the airport, either. If there's a hotel near where the apartment is, maybe you could just get the luggage that far and grab a cab there?

I KNOW! Though actually it's really a little bit longer than that til I actually MEET her I think, lol. We are going to meet up Friday morning at DLP... so exciting!

We thought about it, but we decided to fork out the money for a pre-booked car service. It's really not too bad... only 59 euros. *shrug* It's worth it for the peace of mind. The first taxi company we called hung up on us three times in a row, so we nixed them. There's a hotel about a 15 minute walk from here, and there are cabs there, but it's really a pain, and I just didn't want to deal with it. Besides, a taxi would likely cost close to as much as the car service. So now we have peace of mind. We're getting picked up far earlier than is necessary, but we like to have lots of wiggle room, especially in an airport we've never been to, for an international flight. So we're getting picked up at 9:30am for a 1:05pm flight. We'll have about 2.5 hours to kill before boarding, but when you figure we have to check the bags, go through security and then have lunch, I think we'll be fine.

Hard to believe Paris is tomorrow!!!

I know - I squealed when I saw it too! In fairness, my countdown is to us getting out to France tomorrow. We won't see everyone else until Friday, but I always go for when we get there as our countdown. I may update it tomorrow night at the hotel if I get a chance...

Oh, good. I'm glad you booked a car service for the airport. Well worth the money and you're right, probably about the same as a cab would have been. You'll soon be in Paris!

Just had a couple of texts from Melanie. It sounds like they are having a trying day. She was sitting at the airport (no overweigth bag Yay!) at 9:30am this morning waiting for her flight. then i got another text at 1:30pm saying big delay and that they were taken off the plane and bused to another one. Hope she gets here soon, at least it is one an hour one they do finally take off.
