Taking A Break from Life with a Trip to My Happy Place - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Can't believe you leave on Tuesday! Lucky! I told my husband the other day, you know our annual passes are still good until Dec 4th, do you think we should drive down for the weekend to get some more caramels!!!
I can't remember, have you had the butterfinger muffin yet?
I think a road trip sounds like a fabulous idea. And no, I've never tried that muffin, but I love butterfingers, so I think I may have to add it to the list.

Is it just me, or does the time seem to fly even faster when you're writing a TR?

You will definitely be getting texts from me. And I can promise you that I will have at least two AB's, if not more, from my list.

If I even mention to Cam we'll be doing something in a few days he pesters me about it all the time. Our next trip may have to be a surprise.
And since I've benen horrible about getting on the boards since Mallory was born have a great trip! I probably won't have time to check in before you leave.
Don't even worry about it. You have a brand new baby to look after. I'm surprised you even have time to get on the computer! We ended up telling Hope on Saturday, and ever since then, she's been asking when we're going. I was going to hold off even longer, but she kept asking why I wasn't buying a lot of food at the grocery store. The girl is smarter than I give her credit for.

Thanks everyone! The packing went ok, but I ended up needing 2 suitcase instead of 1. I'm taking the largest and the smallest of my luggage set, so basically, Hope and I have our own suitcases for the trip...with hers being the largest. Just Kidding! I'll take the blame for that one.
Well, this will be my last update before we leave for Disney tomorrow morning! I finished most of the packing yesterday, but with two suitcases, not one. Believe me, I tried, but I'm a girl, and I need a variety to choose from when I get down there.
I checked us in on SW this morning, and we scored A28, A29 & A30 boarding passes, which I was pretty impressed with since EB check-in usually sucks up all the good numbers.
On Saturday we ended up telling Hope that she's going to Disney World because she started playing 20 questions with me in the grocery store. "Why aren't we buying a lot of food today mommy"? "Why didn't you buy my orange juice for school"? "Why didn't you buy me any cheese for my sandwiches"? Why, why, why???? So I finally gave in and told her. I swear that girl is so much smarter than I give her credit for, although she still hadn't asked me about the suitcase lying in my room. She was so excited when she found out, but then came, "When are we going to Disney World"? "Are we going to Disney World yet"? Finally, this morning I told her she only had one more sleep before we left, and once again she got so excited, and then looked at our cat, leaned over and whispered, "Guess what? I'm going to Disney World tomorrow" in his little ear.
I'm also a little worried about coming home from this trip for several reasons. First, we're having some renovations done to the house in the next few weeks. While I'm away, a wall is being knocked out so we can open up the first floor a bit more. Then when I get back, we're installing hardwood flooring in three rooms on the first floor. After the holidays are over I'll start the process of painting and decorating, but right now, that's all I can handle at the moment.
Then I have the business of my parents possible move to deal with still. Everything is now up in the air because of money and my dad's back. He needs surgery, and he can't very well be moving into a new house while recovering. Plus, they're still trying to calculate the cost of building this house compared to buying a condo, so my emotions have sort of been put on hold. And since this also may be our last trip to Disney for a while, and not having that to look forward to in the future, I'm sure that will being weighing on my mind as well. This won't all hit me, however, until I'm getting ready to get on the ME bus to come home, so I'm hoping the craziness of the holidays helps to take my mind off of everything once I'm home.
But moving onto something happier...I'm leaving for Disney in less than 24 hours!!! My girls will be holding down the fort while I'm away since I'll be sending them a few texts here and there. So until I get back, I hope everyone has a great week, and I'll talk to you all real soon!
Have a fabulous time! And try not to think of everything else going on while you're there. Hope I got something going last night that we can all look forward to!
I hear you on the rennovations - it's been 2 years and my basement still isn't done. My goal is to complete it by the first week of January!
