As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I'm just like you when it comes to food on vacations. I am a very "plain" eater, so I just look at most meals as energy. I am the complete opposite of a foodie, so I think meals on vacation as a waste of time and try to rush through them.
So in the pastry pic you do not have "the look", makes me think it's the anticipation of it that you make the face...but that pastry already had a bite out of it.
I think this particular day it might have been the fault of my cold medicine. I am doing pretty good if I can remember my own name when I take cold medicine, so I was just proud that I actually remembered to take a picture! Sorry I forgot "the look." The pastry was definitely good enough for it.

That's an interesting point. You couldn't actually touch the lemurs. There were several zookeepers in the area keeping an eye on everything.

Ashli, I'm finally all caught up!! Looks like you had a great couple of final days!! Love the pictures from both of the zoos!! And that's awesome that you found 2 places where you got free refills. And that church was really pretty. Can't believe your trip is all over with!
Just getting caught up again! Great pictures from your travels. Poznan and Dresden are beautiful! And what great weather you've lucked out with (it seems every game we watched it was raining)!
I'm sorry to have seemingly fallen off the planet and not finished up! I got into my Olympics stupor and cannot apparently function outside of it very well. LOL
Day 15 - Thursday, June 21, 2012: So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye
We got up, checked out of the hotel, and walked across the street to the airport. We checked in for our flight and Kyle grabbed a breakfast sandwich at McDonald's. I felt like absolute crap, my cold had come on strong, so I just wanted to get on the plane and pass out. I had brought some cold meds with me just in case, so I took them with the hope that they would keep the take-off and landings from killing my ears and sinuses too much. It was finally time to board and it was a very easy and on-time process. Our first flight was just a small one to Paris. I slept through the entire thing, so I don't have any idea if they gave out drinks or a small breakfast or anything. Just as we were about to land in Paris, Kyle woke me up to point out the Eiffel Tower that he could see out the window. I had just been in Paris a month earlier, but I was really excited for him because he'd never been there before and thus this was his first time actually seeing the Tower in person.
We landed in Paris and de-planed. We only had a layover of just over an hour so I was a little worried because CDG airport is a mess. Fortunately, despite how long the security line looked, it actually only took about 20 minutes. We were at our gate about 15 minutes before boarding was to begin. It took quite a while to board (as it usually does with such a large plane), but we still took off just about on time. With this ascent, my ears were starting to get pretty angry at my cold and it wasn't feeling too good. I had about another hour before I could take more medicine, so I just gritted it out, then took some more. Once again, I passed out, and slept almost the entire way. I woke up about 2 hours before landing and watched Groundhog's Day on the monitor in the seat in front of me. I was really dreading the descent because I knew my ears were not going to be happy. It was not pleasant, and I was thrilled when we finally touched down in Atlanta. I was seriously considering renting a car and just driving the 4 hours to Savannah instead of taking that last flight. Every take off and landing was getting worse and worse with my sinus pressure.
We had quite a long layover in Atlanta - over 2 hours - so that was plenty of time to go through customs and get our bags and recheck them then get back through security. We got to our next gate and I promptly laid down across the chairs and fell asleep again. (Can you tell that cold medicine knocks me out? ) Before I knew it, it was time to board yet another plane (our final one, fortunately), and we got on. This plane ride was an absolute nightmare, as my ears felt like they were being stabbed by a knife as soon as we started taking off, and the feeling didn't stop until we landed in Savannah. True, it's only about a 40 minute flight, but 40 minutes of waiting for your head to explode or to start bleeding out your ears is too much. Kyle felt bad, but there was nothing really that he could do. When we finally got to Savannah and got off the plane I was DONE. We got our bags quickly and my sister was right there to pick us up fortunately. It was such a painful, sucky ending to what had been a really great trip. I am seriously waiting for the day when someone invents teleportation!!!

The Olympics has dominated our household, too! It's all that's on our TV. I don't want to say that I'll be glad for them to end... but... I do have to sort of admit that it's exhausting being reeled into the games until 11pm or later every night!!! LOL!
Loved reading the last few updates (again, I fell behind). I love that you got so close to the lemurs, but I'm honestly shocked that they'd let you. Do you think you'd have been able to touch them? Did anyone try, I wonder? I'm not sure I would want to try, but at the same time... lol...
I'm sorry about your awful flights home - especially the last one with the stabbing pain. Been there, done that. So sorry, but I'm glad it's over. And I can't wait for Brazil 2014!! LOL!

I have to say I was surprised too. When I saw the first one climbing on the fence I was all worried it had gotten out of its enclosure and was trying to find someone to tell. Then I realized there were like three zookeepers in there and they didn't look alarmed, and then I saw all of the other lemurs out too. I don't think the zookeepers would have let anyone touch them...they were keeping a pretty good eye out. I can't say that I would have tried though because I'm not a little monkey-type animal person. Let me hug a gorilla, I'm in! But touch a little one with the creepy tail...no thanks.
