Just Me and My Girl ~ May 29-June 2, 2012 - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Tuesday, May 29th Day 2, Part 2 Where did we go? MK or Epcot for EMH?
The dilemma wasn’t much of a dilemma except when we rode right past the MK to go to the TTC to transfer to the Epcot monorail. That kinda stung a little. Not going to the MK the 1st day was a little tough for me but the decision was made, Epcot here we come.
*Side note: I have been to WDW 3 times since Steph and I went in June 2009 so I felt that Steph should choose what we did for the most part. I had a rough outline of where we could go and things we could do but really wanted it to be her choice on what we ended up doing.
With that being said, it was Steph’s choice to go Epcot. Even though it wasn’t what I would have chosen, I would live. Don’t get me wrong, I love Epcot but the MK just holds a special place in my heart from my childhood and I love starting and ending my trips there.
I also love riding the monorail, especially the one to Epcot. The first time I rode the monorail to Epcot was back when Epcot wasn’t open to the public yet. I believe it was the summer of ’82. Disney was allowing the public to ride the monorail to Epcot but it didn’t stop at the station, it just took you back to where you got on at. It was pretty seeing the parking lot so empty, virtually no one in the park and the various stages of completion. Anyways, I got way off track here.
Soon we were inside the park and headed straight for the Land. I wanted to see when the times for the Behind the Seeds tour were. The last tour starts at 4:30pm and we, of course, had missed that by a long shot. That meant we needed to be back in Epcot on another day way before then. Next stop was Living with the Land. We didn’t even check the times for Soarin. Steph gets motion sickness and she hadn’t taken any meds today so Soarin was axed. I think Soarin really messes with her though because she didn’t want to ride it later on in the week either.
After LwtL we started to head over to the WS but I asked Steph if she wanted to check out Journey into Imagination with Figment. Neither one of us had ever ridden it before so it was a go. It was a cute ride and I’m glad we tried it.
We normally like to head right towards Canada instead of left towards Mexico in the WS and this trip was no different, especially just coming from Figment. We didn’t do much, just took in the sights, smells and all the surroundings. Here are some photos from our stroll around the WS.
O Canada, the Beautiful!
Crossing over the bridge we caught a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.
Steph was fortunate enough to go to France in 2008 with a friend of hers and her family. She said that much of the places she went looked a lot like this:
Imagineers!
I can’t ever go through France without stopping at Boulangerie Patisserie. Steph got a chocolate croissant and vegetable quiche and I got the Strawberry Tart. We shared all of it family style. , no food pics here… Time on the receipt says it is now around 8pm.
Once we were done stuffin our faces again, we continued to mosey our way on through the WS. Most of our pics are of the architecture and buildings. No really "fun" pics.
It was pretty much completely dark by the time we exited Maelstrom. The torches were lit all around the lake by now. Illuminations would not be too far behind. We headed over to Mexico and went in to ride The Three Caballeros.
We were the only ones on our boat. It was kinda funny yet weird yet at the same time. After doing a little “window shopping" in the plaza, Steph and I headed for the exit. I guess Illuminations had just finished because there was a sea of people everywhere. We made our way into the herd and followed the flow over to SE. The park was officially closed now but EMH was until midnight.
SE is one of our favorite rides. We may ride it a minimum of 5-6 times a trip. Each time we ride we will do a “real” story 1st but all the other times we ride we make Goofy faces and pick things we would never choose. Tonight we rode it twice.
1st ride:
2nd ride:
The video to the 2nd ride was hilarious too. We were laughing so hard we were crying. We decided to call it a night and head back to the room. I was disappointed to see that the monorail would not be taking us back. Not sure why the monorail doesn’t run but the boats do for EMH. Off to the busses. We waited about 20 minutes for a bus and packed in nice and tight. I was thankful that we were the 1st stop since they were going to Ft W too. Once up in the room, it wasn’t long before we were dancing with sugar plums. Overall a fun and full arrival day!
What a wonderful late afternoon and evening at Epcot. I love the sky at that time of day-- Steph's sunset photo! Makes me want to teleport right into Epcot right now.

Such a great time at Epcot, the pictures that were taken with the iphone came out so good. I can't to use mine when we go, just might not bring a regular camera.

It was a nice evening. No rush or hurry to go anywhere. And sunset at Epcot is so beautiful. I want to be there right now too!

Thanks! Steph hasn't used her camera since getting her iPhone. I like the ones from her camera better than my actual camera. I haven't tried uploading any photos from my Thunderbolt phone yet, maybe I should give it a try and see how they look. I may give up my camera too.

what a nice night in Epcot. I know how you feel about always going to MK first. I love that park and always want it to be my first and last stop on any trip.
Great afternoon/evening at Epcot! I feel your pain on the whole not going to MK first, I also like to make it our first and last stops of our trip but when it doesn't work out that way it just feels weird. Beautiful sunset shots at Epcot!
You girls had a great night! So crazy that they close the monorail at regular park closing. They should at least keep it open for like an hour into EMH.
Gee. I wonder who those characters are.
Hope everyone made it through yesterday safe and sound. We had good food and a nice evening watching a few firework shows in Katy with friends and then watching all the neighborhood "shows" on the drive home. I was pleasantly surprised the "shows" didn't end up being as bad as some new years eve celebrations. Pretty low key so sleeping wasn't a problem.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one (seems to be a few of us ) who loves going to the MK at the start and end of our trips. It did feel weird, especially riding right passed it. But to make myself feel better, it looked really, really crowded so I just told myself I didn't want to be in all that.

Thanks Cam! I will pass the sweet comment on to Steph. She was the photographer that evening. It was a really nice stroll through the WS. No real agenda just taking it all in.

I know! I couldn't believe it was closed. The sign said it was closed because the park was closed. Oh really?? What about all your on site guests who are still there? And yeah, if ya wanna close it early, use your hour after park closes rule sillies, but let folks know clearly ahead of time.
