As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I love the new pictures, you make a beautiful family and the boys are both getting so big. Sorry that you had to miss dinner, but I am sure a sleeping Dylan was a much better option, it does look like everyone had a great time though. Glad that Dylan got to enjoy the pool and playing in the sand for a bit, can't wait to hear about teh ziplining.

I know! I think the same thing. Guess it must be the outfit, expression, and hands in the pocket (like someone else said) in the professional shots.

Great updates! Sorry you had to miss the hibachi restaurant, but I think you made the right decision. The pool looks great... too bad it was so cold! Can't wait to hear about ziplining!
How did I miss this update??? I'm so confused, but it doesn't take much. Anyway, sorry you missed out on dinner, but I know how that goes. The little ones pretty much run the show, but it seemed like it was all for the best. Looks like you had a wonderful day at the pool though.
My Dad & I woke up early, got dressed, and headed to breakfast since we were doing excursions today – him deep sea fishing & me zip lining. Dad took his motion sickness medicine and ate a hearty breakfast. Stay tuned to see how that worked out.
I didn’t eat much. I was nervous, but excited too, about jumping out of trees! My Aunt Barb and our family friend Jeanne were going zip lining with me and soon our truck arrived to pick us up. It was a truck like we had taken a few days ago for the safari tour. We drove back to where we had eaten lunch on the safari as that is where the zip lines were. We got out of the truck, got our gear on (harness, gloves & helmet) and then received instructions on what to do. One glove had extra padding as it was your brake and we were told to keep your elbow out, parallel to your head or you’d turn and could injure yourself on the zip line cable. You also had to keep your knees up. I was a little worried about the lower ab muscles (I did just have a c-section just over 2 months ago), but ended up being fine. After our demonstration on how to zip line we were told to follow the guide. I was first. Wait! What’s happening?! I have to go first?! Yep! I was the leader of our group. I didn’t have much time to think about being scared since everyone was waiting on me. So I stepped up, got hooked up and jumped. Wow! It’s amazing! What a rush! Overall I think there were 12 platforms and 10 lines of cables. One cable was named ‘Speedy Gonzales’ as you could reach 40mph. The longest cable was 250m (or 820 feet) long! It was high above the trees and went over a creek (they said river – it was a creek). This was also the last line we did and it was so amazing to see everything from up there. It was a bit scary too – as I got about half way I started to spin – it was really windy that high up. I was scared I was going to turn all the way around, but I straightened myself out and made it. The experience was awesome and I’m so glad I did it. {We did not bring our cameras and glad we didn’t as the only way to really carry them was to hook them on to your helmet and none of us had cameras small enough for that. I did buy the picture they took of us so I’ll see if I can scan it to share.}

While I was being a monkey jumping from trees, the boys were out in the open sea. Later in the afternoon once they were back we heard of the 8 of them only 2 didn’t get sick (one being my brother). So Dad’s motion sickness meds didn’t work, but said it was probably a good thing he did eat or well you know how it is when you’re sick and have an empty stomach. Apparently he & another guy spent almost the whole time on the boat at the rail. They did catch some fish though. Here are pics of their day at sea:

Meanwhile, Mom had Dylan and they puttered around the resort – played with the pool table and in the fitness center. I think us girls were back by lunch. I think we were gone for only like 2.5 hours. We’d gotten done really fast and there weren’t too many on our tour. After some lunch we headed to the pool – what else was there to do after all?! J
Then it was naptime for Dylan followed by getting ready for dinner. Tonight most of us ate at the Sea & Sea open air restaurant for seafood. This was probably my least favorite meal – just wasn’t very good in my opinion. Everyone that had the lobster seemed to enjoy it though. I think Brandon ate like 3 or 4. My Mom was kind enough to take Dylan again for the night so I could enjoy myself some. Dad was supposed to come back to the room too, but he didn’t – needless to say he was in trouble. Tonight’s show was a Michael Jackson impersonation. Wow! It was awesome! The dance moves alone is what made it. Sorry, no pictures – I took video of it instead. After the show we headed back to bed because tomorrow was a big day!

I'm so impressed that you did the zipline! (never mind only two months post-c-section!) I'm sure it was an amazing feeling. I'd never have the nerve even to climb up to the launch area.
