As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Tuesday 22 December – part three: exploring the hidden depths of Morocco
We headed through World Showcase, once we got off at Epcot, with Mark moaning that we always go the same way through France. Well yes, that’s because there’s more to see and photograph doing it that way and so it proved to be, with us stopping all the way along.
We spent the longest time in Morocco that we have done in a long time and our explorations rewarded us with areas that we hadn’t seen before, such as a beautiful courtyard.

We stopped in the American Adventure, as I saw a shirt that I liked that said Epcot 2009 and had a Christmas design on it, but sadly, we couldn’t find it in my size. Instead, I found the Minnie tree topper that I had first seen yesterday in MouseGears and Mark got that for me and a new ornament for us for my Christmas present.
By the time we finished with that, we were running out of time, so we decided to just head to Mexico and then come back this way to finish our photo tour of World Showcase. You never know, by then maybe a few more stalls would be open. I had already noticed that the Kaki Gori stall in Japan was closed, as was the Grand Marnier Slush stall in France. It’s a shame that they don’t ensure those sort of things are open when World Showcase opens.
Great updates, Chez. Sorry about that rude woman in Muppetvision. And you know she probably would've stopped in the middle of the row after pushing past you. Sorry, that's one of my Disney pet peeves. Love your photos of Morocco. It's amazing how much of that pavilion people miss because they never venture back there. Looking forward to your next update, but judging by your teaser, it doesn't sound too good.

Tuesday 22 December – part four: all I want is a seat!
When we got to Mexico, it was an absolute zoo in there. We waited about 10 minutes to check in, which was a enough of a joke in itself, but then all the seats were taken in the waiting area, so I got out my Guest Assistance Card and asked if there was anywhere I could sit while we waited. The very rude guy there didn’t even listen to what I had said and told me that everyone has to wait, which I get, but that wasn’t what I was asking him. Fortunately, a seat did become free, which was a real relief for me.
The wait wasn’t too bad, maybe five minutes and then we were seated. We were paying out of pocket for this meal and we decided to share the Mahi Mahi for entree. We each got a different appetiser, with me going for the tortilla soup and Mark getting the duck meat tacos. We were both very impressed with our choices. Mine was like a Mexican form of minestrone stop, very unusual and very different. I really enjoyed it.
As for the Mahi Mahi, we both thought that it was beautifully light and very well flavoured, but not too spicy.
This was way better than the last time we had eaten here in 2004, when we came away very unimpressed with their menu and the food. However, I had heard a lot of good things about this place in the time since then, so I thought we should give it another go and I’m glad we did. It’s not a place I would race back to sample again and again, because Mexican isn’t near the top of my list of favourite types of food, but this place is much improved and we were both pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food there now.

Our server was very good and tried her best, but I got the feeling that she, like all the others there today, were overworked. We got the feeling that the restaurant had been overbooked and they didn’t have enough staff to cope with it, which isn’t fair on them. :

When we were done, we walked around World Showcase, first heading out through Mexico...
Then we headed to Norway, which was a zoo, because of everyone waiting to get into Akerhaus for lunch. Maelstrom was showing a long wait, so I used my Guest Assistance Card and we walked on again. This was a rougher ride than I remembered it before. Once we escaped all the Norwegian trolls, we had a wait until the movie theatre opened, then we walked through. I say this each time, but having been to Norway, this film doesn’t do it justice for us. :
We had a look at the shops and particularly the Helly Hansen gear, as maybe it could come in handy at Sue and Steve’s, but it was a lot of money. I never stopped to look at the sweaters before and they are quite a price, over $500. My goodness! I was shocked by that...

Glad to hear you enjoyed the SAI. I've never tried it myself, because like you, Mexican isn't one of my favorites. But with the good reviews I've been hearing, I'll have to give it a try! And I have checked the prices of those sweaters, so I'm not surprised you didn't buy one!
