Sousefest - A December to Remember (If We Can) - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love the accessories you chose, Eileen, the pink bag is SO great!!!! I am betting the group of you is getting all packed and ready to go now! How nice you will all be bonding together again soon.....
I'm so glad I had a snow day today so I could start reading this TR! Sounds like you ladies are going to have an absolute blast!!!! Oh how I wish I could take an early December trip to the world ! Drat, teaching! I guess I'll have to live thru these TRs until retirement .
At least I won't have any trouble finding my suitcase in the pile.

You've got the important stuff! But, umm... you are gonna put some clothes in there, right? Because you'll definitely need to wear some to the California Grill.

I’ve been running around like a crazy person the past few days, trying to get as much done as I can for the trip and for Christmas. I’m almost finished with my shopping, just a couple more things to get, which I can get at any time in my local drugstore. I’ve still got lots of wrapping to do, but I can take care of that once I get back.
I’m mostly packed. I’ve got some gifts that I don’t want to put in until the last minute to prevent them from getting smushed. I also had to put wrapping paper in the suitcase, since you’re not supposed to put wrapped gifts in your luggage. I’ve got a lot of my cards written out, now I’ve got to get some stamps. I’ll finish writing out the cards on the way home from work tonight. If I don’t get the stamps today (and it’s pouring, which means I’m not likely to walk 4 blocks in the rain to get them) I’ll ask my DF to pick some up for me when he’s at the post office (he actually goes to the post office to mail letters and pay bills all the time). Unfortunately, the really cool item I ordered took longer than I expected, and it won’t arrive today (at least I don’t think so), so I won’t be able to able to give the girls that fun little surprise. I’ll have to mail it to them later.
I’m all checked in for my flight. I decided to use Early Bird Check-In this time, because my flight is at 8:20, and usually at that time I’m on the subway and with my luck, there would be some kind of delay and I’d end up with a C boarding pass. I used it both ways, figuring I wouldn’t have to worry about checking in for my flight home either.
For those of you wondering about it, the way it works is you’re assigned a boarding number at 36 hours ahead, before everyone else who checks in at 24 hours ahead. I got A18 when I checked in at 9:30, an hour and 10 minutes after the check-in window opened. So there will likely be only 2 people ahead of me in general boarding (I rarely see anyone in A1-A15, which is for people on the A list (the premium level frequent flyer) or people who pay full price for their flight – generally almost double what you could pay). I say it’s worth the $10, but I don’t always need to be one of the first on board, so it’ll depend on my situation whether or not I’ll use it.
I decided to rent a car for convenience this time. I’ll be doing some parkhopping and hope to make the most of my time, and staying at AK, I find the bus service can be frustrating at times. Also, I can get quadruple credit from SWA for the rental, giving me 2 full credits (what you normally get from a round-trip flight). I decided to pick up and drop off the car at the Car Care Center, so I’ll still be using DME (and I am embarrassed by how excited I am to be able to meet up with some of my gal pals at the airport and take DME with them ).
I so can’t wait to see my besties again. Bouncing off the walls! It’s going to be such an awesome trip! The only little fly in the ointment is the time I’ll be spending solo. I’m going to attend the D23 Magic and Merriment Event. I’m not going to do everything on the agenda, but I will be taking the Cinderella Castle Suite tour, which I’m psyched about. I’m planning on stowing away in there. If I’m never seen or heard from again, either I’m living in there now, or I’ve been banned from WDW. Perhaps my traveling companions ought to bring some cash to bail me out of Disney jail.
In addition to our meal at the California Grill (Bob & Larry Dining Experience 2), I’ll also be dining at Kouzzina with some PassPorters. Heather and I will be joining Cheryl (chezp) and her DH Mark, Lorie (MinnieLor), and Bob and Larry (UncleBob and LLaffinPlace). It should be fun, and I’ve been wanting to try Kouzzina. I also can’t wait to see a bunch of other PassPorters that I’ve met, far too many to name, and also to meet a few for the first time!
So I’ll have to make the most of every moment I have with my roomies. I’ll be sticking to them like glue when I can. By Monday, they’ll probably be wanting to ditch me. The more I think about it, the more excited I get! After work, I’m meeting DM and we’re going to get mani-pedis and then dinner I think DM is making sure she has a chance to gently remind me not to forget her fudge the way I did on my last trip. Then I’ll finish up the little bit of packing I have to do and I can relax until bedtime. I think for once I may actually be too excited to sleep! With an 8:20 a.m. flight, I’ll probably leave at my usual time to go to work (but instead of work, I’ll be going to Disney ). I’ve got to remember to make a stop at the bagel shop on the way to the airport. And then, the fun begins!

I can't wait to see you, Sharon! (And I promise, since I was partially the reason your DM didn't get any fudge last time) to let nothing...NOTHING! stand in the way of your tasty-treat purchase!
Safe travels to everyone.
I so wish I was able to be there also.
The first December after I retire, I am so there! Unfortunately that is too far away to even think about.
Can't wait to read about all of it.
