As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Cool update! I myself was not impressed with Nassau......it was super windy and cold when we docked there too and the people were very rude. I might have gotten there on a bad day or something but that gave me a bad first impression of Nassau myself. I love the beer tasting! I wish that had that on our upcoming cruise....yeah i discovered my love for boddingtons when the waiter at RR in DTD suggested it to me a few years ago....such a great smooth tasting beer!
I too cannot believe the amount of characters on the ship! That's amazing!

It was at the time.... but the upcoming April trip will have doubled the number so I had to stop I still only have 6. I don't think I can keep up
So after our afternoon of fun on board we got ready for our night out. First we stopped to see Pirate Stitch in the lobby. I was all about checking the times for the characters while on board
We planned on playing some bingo tonight and we had a little time before it started. We wandered around decks 3 and 4... and check out who we found...
This was our first Captain Jack encounter. He asked me if we were on our honeymoon and I told him no, it was our anniversary. And he goes (in his best drunk, slurring voice) "Ohhh, how many weeks has it been?" I told him "FIVE YEARS!" and he almost fainted "OHhhh, five years...." I joked that it was a seriously long term commitment thing. He was hilarious!

For some reason we went back to our room.... I don't remember why. Somebody must've wanted to pick up something or drop something off....but I have a picture of Andy on the balcony with Atlantis in the background...
We still had time before bingo, so we headed to the Cadillac Lounge for a drink. I was trying to keep my mind off the fact we would be moving again soon. I wanted to see if it was all just in my head....maybe if I didn't know we were moving I would be okay....
After our drink we went out to find Pirate Mickey and Minnie

We had a really fun time playing bingo even though we won squat. Andy really got into it, too. We had a card where we only needed one more number....he was seriously into the bingo. I still laugh at the pirate wenches hosting the game.... if the number called wasn't on your card you had to yell "Shakey shakey" so they'd shake up the numbers. We were yelling "Shakey shakey" a lot... sometimes we got to yell "OH YEAH!"
While we were playing we started moving....I could feel it. I didn't have to be by a window to see the movement... I felt it in my head. Oh well... here we go again....

Our dinner time was close, so we headed out after bingo. We were the last ones to arrive tonight as opposed to last night where we were the first. Everybody was here tonight. We had an oriental couple that, if they spoke English, didn't let on. I think they had the right idea The other couple that wasn't there the night before we really liked. They were on their honeymoon. The guy and Andy talked music pretty much everytime they saw each other. I don't remember their names though.....
I was feeling a little better than I had the night before, but I was still feeling the movement. I had been very excited about eating here at AP tonight, but I have to say.....this was the biggest disappointment of the trip. We ordered and then the colors starting popping up in different places.....you could barely hear any music. We were in the very back of the restaurant. It just didn't feel like it was doing what it was supposed to. I thought it was supposed to light up a little with each course. Well, we got our appetizers and there were two pictures on the wall fully lit up while the rest was black and white. It was just weird. And the food wasn't all that great either. Then we sat and sat and sat and sat while we waited for our entrees. We watched all the tables around us finish their entrees and move onto dessert and we still hadn't received our entrees. It was getting ridiculous. We were going to miss the Pirate party if they didn't hurry it up. Finally, like an hour into the meal, we got our entrees. We scarfed it down....well what we wanted of it... again, it was not that impressive. Andy went ahead and asked for our check for our drinks and we didn't even order dessert b/c we wanted to get to the party. I mean this was ridiculous! I left the table to go change really quick before the party while Andy paid. I guess our tablemates may have thought we were rude, but I don't care. I wanted to get to the party and it was ridiculous that we had waited THAT long to get our food and now we were going to be late for the party. I was, quite frankly, pissed off.

It was really such a letdown b/c we had really been looking forward to eating here. Such a shame.
So we rushed up to deck 9 and had to go on up to deck 10 because it was packed.
It had already started of course.........
And Pirate Stitch was part of the show!!
I have to say.....when Mickey comes to the rescue and they play that stupid song "I need a hero" or whatever it's called from Footloose.... I totally was loving it! I'm such a nerd....but I love the idea of "Mickey to the rescue!" And that stupid song was stuck in my head for the rest of the trip!!!! (and now it is again after talking about it )
Anyway, hero Mickey to the rescue...
Then it was time for the fireworks, which we were DIRECTLY under so we had to strain our necks to see them.... note to self, when at the pirates party again be on the left side of the stage......
After the party we hit up the dessert buffet and took it back to our room to enjoy on our balcony. I got way to much on my plate....eyes bigger than the stomach syndrome. After our midnight snack, we called it a night and went to bed. Tomorrow was Castaway Cay day!!!
Andy wanted me to add that we weren't the only ones who were bothered by our meal... our tablemates were ticked off as well. We joked about it at the table just to keep it light, but nobody was pleased. Seems like they brought out the wrong thing to the couple on their honeymoon. I'm sure it wasn't like this for everyone in the restaurant, and I'm sure it's not like this every night.. but Andy just said he's had better service at Applebees. That was a low blow! Overall, we were not impressed by the food onboard. Y'all know we love to eat and we love food, so as much as we love Disney food, we expected more on board. Palo, which will be in the next couple updates, was fabulous. But that was the shining star of the trip foodwise.
Thanks for the update. Sorry you weren't impressed with the food. Actually, we took a Disney cruise in 2003 and the food was so bad that we haven't sailed on DCL since. As much as we love anything Disney, the other cruise lines have good food and are much, much cheaper.

AP was a bit of a disappointment to us, too, but we did get fed on time!
You get all caught up in the moment and it doesn't really matter what song is playing when Pirate Mickey comes to the rescue... just as long as he brings his "Party in the Sky" to save the evening!
I just LOVE all the characters in their cute pirate costumes!
I'm so sad to hear about the unimpressive food and the bad experience at AP. I've only been on a Royal Caribbean cruise, but the food at dinner was FABULOUS! And I'm sooooo looking forward to taking a Disney cruise someday. I don't want to be disappointed with the food.
I hope we have a better experience, food-wise. I have really been talking up cruising to my family (DH and I are the only out of the 13 going on our trip who have cruised). I would hate for them to have a bad experience.
