Matt UGA's "Man Has a Dream" Trip Report Updated 10/20 - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The campfire and s'mores look and sound good. Your cabin doesn't look that small in the pictures. I've ridden through the area with the cabins on a bus to DD and always thought it'd be a fun place to stay. $8.50 for a can of cheese is a bit much.

Great start Matt - the more I rad about the cabins the more I like the idea of the resort. It really is like an added vacation on top of being at WDW, there seems to be so much to do.
This TR is wonderful! I am so glad I found it! We are staying in the cabins this fall for the 2nd "half" of our vavation, and you've got a lot of great info. Thanks!

I think I can pound out another update today while at work. Shhhh! For people new to the campgrounds, I'll give a synposis of recommendations when I finish!
Although we normally avoid EMH days like the plague, we new we had to get the girls to the Magic Kingdom on our first day or we just wouldn't hear the end of it. We all got up very early and went to the bus stop to take us to the marina so that we could catch the boat to the MK. I knew at this moment that I was going to rent a golf cart for the rest of the week. I had programmed the two offsite golf cart rental places into my blackberry before we left and I made a note to call around 9am.
We got on the first boat to the Magic Kingdom which left the dock at 7:30. Of course, we wasted some time mugging for the cameras...
On the way a flurry of text messages were flying between me, Joey, Travis, and Molly (WVUGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL or something like that ). They were doing the Keys to the Kingdom Tour this morning and we were hoping to run into them at some point. The KttKT is great...up to a point. While I knew most of the stuff they said, it was pretty cool to see the backstage stuff. However, our tour run over an hour late when we took it and I was just ready to go by then. At the time, I kept my opinion to myself because I didn't want to ruin it for the WVU gang. (I didn't realize that Molly and Travis had already did it before.)
While waiting for the park to open, we took more pics... of course.
Anyways, we get into the park and the girls made the traditional stroll towards Dumbo while I went off to get us FPs for Splash Mountain. After grabbing fastpasses, I started to head back to Fantasyland when a guy says "I just got fastpasses to Big Thunder Mountain but I don't want them now. You take them". haha He shoved them into my hand and I saw him taking off toward Splash Mountain. I yelled thanks and kept walking back to Fantasyland. I wonder if the guy thought he could get FPs for Splash immediately? haha oh well.
Once back the ladies had only to wait 2 more minutes to board Dumbo.
We rode Peter Pan next and I took the opportunity to run up to Allie and jump next to her and scare her with a self portrait. My look is joking while hers is mortal fear. hahaha it might be my favorite photo of the trip.
I don't particularly feel like racking my brain to figure out what happened next but I know we finished off Fantasyland, The Haunted Mansion and Toon Town before we decided we were hungry. We made a quick pit stop at the tea cups before we began wondering what what we should eat.
We walked back to Fantasyland and saw the Fairy Godmother out and we got a quick picture. My only problem with this pic is that Allie looks so old! Gah she's becoming a young lady.
We soon decided on Columbia Harbor House and since we were celebrating Allie's Birthday, I asked her to join me in line so that they might give her a cookie or something. After we ordered, a man who works there wished her a happy birthday and asked if we'd like to dine in style. We said sure. He started to lead us upstairs and told us not to worry about food because he'd bring it to us! We walked up stairs and he took us into a small roped in area that looks down to the lines to order your food. No one was up there but us. We told Allie "Nice job!" and she agreed. Not long afterwards, the waiter and another waitress brought us all our food and complimentary desserts for the group! We thanked him profusely and started chowing down. I ate the fish while everybody else got chicken i believe.
It was then that I remembered that when we took the KTTK tour that you ate at Columbia Harbour House. I sent a quick text to Molly and sure enough, they were just arriving. Their reserved section was across from us and as they walked up, we got to meet briefly for the first time. Our plans were to go to DHS that night for Fantasmic so we confirmed those plans with them and they agreed!
They had to go eat at about the same time 10 or so CHH cast members came up the stairs and sang happy birthday to Allie. Allie's pretty shy in public but even I laughed after they left when she said "Ok Daddy. No tip. You know that singing embarrasses me!" She was giggling and had enjoyed it no matter how read she turned!
Since we had 8 or so days at WDW and the park was filling up, we knew we didn't want to stay much longer. We rode HM one more time and then headed over to ride Pirates of the Caribbean. As usual...silly hat pics were necessary.
I convinced the girls to head back to the cabin for some swimming time. It really wasn't hard to do. It was quite hot. We made it back to the dock and caught a quick boat to Fort Wilderness. I had called the golf cart company and scheduled a 3pm appt to get a golf cart so I took the girls swimming for a couple hours before the cart would come.
Up Next: Dinner in my cabin with a WDW Cast Member, the nastiest Thunderstorm ever, and the first ever meeting of the NorRadWright von Headleys.
