Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I think so too. But I've got to get moving on my TR and Karen's still about a full day behind me. Unlike her, I can't spend forever on this TR. I'll still try not to get too far ahead.

Before I start, thanks everyone for the pixies. I was lucky enough to get the “mini flu” that’s been going around here. If you happen to spot a typo or something in this update, blame it on the coughing jags I’m still having. Also, since we’re allowed to use bigger photos in our TRs now, I’ve used bigger photos. But I’m not sure if they’re too big, so this is my test and if in my next installments the photos are smaller, it’s because I’ve changed my mind (though I’m sure nobody but me cares ) Now, on with the TR!

Day Two – Thursday, December 7
I’m a Celebrity!

I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to sleep at the foot of the bed so I could see the castle in my dreams. I’m not usually that dorky, but I was only half awake and it had been a long day before and, ummm, I once read somewhere that that’s what all the cool kids are doing these days. Plus I figured I’d be up first anyway and nobody would be the wiser, but Eileen caught me. She was even rude enough to comment on how dorky it was. But I got her back (you’ll see how in a bit ).

Anyway, Karen was still asleep, so Eileen and I made our way onto the cavernous balcony and watched the sunrise. Before this, the only Magic Kingdom area resort I’d stayed at was the Wilderness Lodge, and we sat there listening to the sounds of the MK before dawn (I could even hear the howling at the Haunted Mansion, which I thought was beyond cool Other members of the CLT® may or may not have heard sounds from castle shows and Haunted Mansions, but she claims she couldn’t hear it and when Karen and I mocked her, she blamed her disease. But I’m not naming any names. ). Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, it occurred to me that though the WL is indeed a MK area resort, you’d never know it. And of course, that’s how it’s meant to be. But Eileen and I both decided that the true Magic Kingdom resorts rock! Woo!

I took a few pictures as the sun came up, so here’s a sort of mini slideshow I’ll call “Sunrise over the Magic Kingdom.” Not the most clever name, but the photos make up for it.

That was the first monorail of the day!

Incidentally, that big cloud to the left of the castle that you can see in the first few photos was a mystery to us. We at first thought it may be the steam trains, but it never moved or dissipated, so it was a mystery cloud. We figured it was hanging over what may have been Frontierland, based upon where BTMRR was (it’s very hard to see in the photos, but you could see the peak of BTMRR from our balcony).

By now, Karen was also awake, so we decided to head to EMH at the MK that morning, before returning to the GF to enjoy our last hours there. I know Eileen mentioned in previous TRs that my bed hardly looks slept in and hers does, so I decided to show you just how “slept in” her bed actually is. Now it may seem as though I’m picking on our friend (and if it doesn’t, you obviously haven’t been paying attention ) so just to be nice to my wonderful pal Eileen, I’m not going to post which bed belongs to which CLT’r. I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

These pictures are 100% accurate. No extra messing up (or fixing up) was done

Please ignore the princess pillowcases. They are not a clue. Karen slept on the daybed, but her bed didn’t look like the Family Fun Day Parade marched through it and she didn’t have faaaabulous themed pillowcases, so I didn’t feel the need to take a photo of it.

As we were getting ready, I noticed that the GF had iHome alarm clocks, so Eileen put her iPod in to charge. Karen notified us that she was about to use (and by ”use,” I mean clean out) all the fabulous toiletries, and she warned us to grab whatever we wanted first. I grabbed only a photo…

We hit the concierge lounge on our way to the monorail. I got a photo of the tree with a practically empty lobby.

Once at the MK, we headed for Tomorrowland. Our first stop there was Space Mountain. That was fun. Then Karen or Eileen decided it was time to ride Buzz Lightyear. Eep! Now for those of you unfamiliar with the story (and why aren’t you? ), Eileen and Karen are quite competitive about Buzz, and Karen is… well, I don’t want to say violent, but she’s violent! After riding with Karen on Buzz in Disneyland, Eileen sort of looked like this. I’m just sayin’. So being a girl who enjoys the use of both arms, I volunteered to ride alone. Now I can’t say whether Eileen decided to ride alone because she wanted to control her own car or because she was afraid of the beatings, but we all ended up with a car to ourselves. Eileen was in the lead, with me in the middle and Rocky Balbo… I mean Karen brought up the rear.

I always thought I was bad at Buzz, and recently I’ve been getting better (and I just realized I should’ve been nice to Eileen or she’ll post that photo from Disneyland with my lowest ever Buzz score. Oops!). I managed to hit a 100,000 target right off the mark, so I knew I was safe from mocking. When we finished, I ended up with my highest score EVER! Woohoo!

Eileen turned around to brag about her score and I realized I’d beaten her by 1,000 points! Karen came in dead last, so I guess she needs someone to “ride with” to help her hit the good targets.

After this, though, I figured out I score highest when I ride alone. It’s easier for me to figure out which little red dot is mine. So the next time I get a score that’s like 4,000 points, that’s the explanation. And those of you out there who’ve gotten a 999,999 score like, for instance, Dyan, just be quiet! Nobody cares! (Just kidding, Dyan! )

After my triumph on Buzz (hey, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that this will never happen again, so let me enjoy it ) we decided to do the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor.

Continued…

I really enjoy the theme of the queue area because there’s so much fun stuff to look at. It is reminiscent of the queue at the Monsters Inc. ride at DCA, though the actual attractions are not alike at all.

The Laugh Floor is an enjoyable attraction, especially when, like me, you become part of the show. One of the Monsters chose me to think of a number and he would guess it. Then he wanted me to say it and he would cover his eyes so he couldn’t see me say it. It was quite fun and I enjoyed seeing myself on the big screen for a few minutes.

After the show, we had time to make the first showing of the castle show, so we grabbed a spot in front of the castle. I really enjoy the new blinking/mouth moving heads, but I am a bit upset that I now have so many photos of the characters with their eyes closed.

Halfway through the show, I heard the woman next to Eileen ask her if she would hold her baby. You might think this surprised Eileen, but imagine the shock of that baby! Thanks to me and my faithful companion (i.e. my camera), you don’t even have to imagine it.

I just love the look on that kid’s face! If only you knew, kid! Actually, after a moment or two of confusion, the kid warmed up to Eileen, and when she handed him back to his mama, he reached for Eileen again.

Meanwhile, there was a show going on…

After the show, it was time to head back to enjoy the last of the concierge-y goodness of the GF, so we made our way out of the park. On the way out we ran into Barb (Grammy Grumpy) and her DH Bob. We stopped to chat with them a bit, then headed for the launch to the GF. When we got on the boat, Karen and I sat together and I asked Eileen to take our photo.

Then I asked Eileen to pose for a photo.

She’s not a ham or anything. Actually, this photo makes me chuckle because it looks like Eileen is being a total seat hog and not letting anyone sit next to her. Shame!

Well I for one LOVE the big pics. And funny, how we've always complained of "humans" with their eyes closed in pics, now we can expect it of our Disney friends! LOL Glad to hear you're better and GREAT to read another installment.
