As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

By the way, I guess it's the "Karen" in me coming out, but I have to correct a misconception about those giraffes. All the giraffes at the AKL and AK are kept separated by gender because, ...well... giraffes are like rabbits and have noooo problems conceiving in captivity! So, those were two males and they were doing something called "necking," which isn't like smooching. It's actually a let's-determine-the-pecking-order kind of thing. Like rams butting heads. If they weren't being really serious about it, it was probably more like sibling rivalry.
Anyway, "Karen" over...

Actually, I knew that, but it's funnier my way!

Great update, Sharon. Love the pictures of the animals and I think like your DMom when it comes to buying candy for gifts - 2 for them, 1 for me..........

Re: \
OK, before I begin with the details of this night, let me first say that I seem to forget I have my camera with me whenever I go to Disney-MGM Studios. I have fewer pictures of this park than of some resorts. Don’t ask me why, because I can’t explain it. Anyway, I honestly only have one picture for this part of the TR, and I didn’t even take it!
Day Four Part Two
What Do You Mean, “You Only Took One Picture!”
After seeing DM off, I headed for the bus to the Studios. When I got to the park, I headed straight for TOT (I know many of you just let out a surprised gasp ) The standby was longer than I felt like waiting, so I grabbed a FP for later and walked over to check out the wait at RNRC. That was pretty long too, so I figured I’d do the Great Movie Ride.
There wasn’t much of a wait there, and I decided to request the cowboy version since I like that one better. Now many of you know that I have a, shall we say, unusual, way of seeing things. I mean, who besides me cracks up in the RNRC pre-show? Well, in the clips they show while you’re waiting to board, there is a scene from a movie (the name of it escapes me) where Cyd Charisse is in a chair and trying to look all sexy while blowing smoke out of her nose. <shudder> The first thing I think of when I see this scene is this:
Sexy, right? Yeah, no, it isn’t. People really had a strange idea of what was sexy back in the day. Anyway, I got the cowboy side and all was good. I enjoy the film clips at the end (especially since the newer films were added) and really want to see them update the pre-show film, but a little part of me hopes they keep Cyd Charisse forever.
After GMR, I did a little shopping, then headed over to RNRC. The standby was only 10 minutes at that time, so I grabbed another FP for it for later (my TOT window had opened), then I went for a spin or three (and got my giggle on during the pre-show).
My next stop was TOT. Boy do I love, love, love this ride! This time I was seated with two women who hadn’t ridden before and the one who sat next to me was completely terrified. I tried to reassure her that it really isn’t bad as you think it’s going to be, but it wasn’t working. She was holding on to her friend for dear life and squeezing her eyes shut. She started screaming before we even got into the drop shaft! When it was over (and we had an incredible drop sequence that time) she goes “that’s it?” See, it really isn’t as bad as you think it’s going to be.
My RNRC FP was already ripe, so I took the opportunity to grab another RNRC FP for later. I didn't think I had enough time to ride RNRC with my other FP before the ADR, so I did a bit more shopping before it was time to meet up with the ladies for dinner at the Brown Derby.
This was my first time dining at the Brown Derby and I really enjoyed my meal. I had the crab cake as a starter, which was quite tasty, and filet mignon as the main course. This meal was two table service credits, so I ordered the most expensive choice available, but I probably would’ve ordered the same thing had I been paying out of pocket. For dessert, I got the banana white chocolate toffee dome, which was We had a lot of fun gabbing over this meal and had quite a discussion over whether or not the slice of candied grapefruit that comes with the grapefruit cake was edible. I said it was and when it was tried, it was pronounced inedible. Well, it is edible, but I don’t think I ever said it was delicious!
After the meal, it was time for the PP TOT/RNRC meet. While I was waiting and looking for someone I recognized, I noticed the EMH wristband distribution spot, so I got mine. I also called Lesley (WDWfan) and let her know to meet me by the wristband spot since we hadn’t really decided where to meet. I also called Dawn (DawnDenise) and got her voicemail, but it didn’t like my voice and cut me off. Just then, Lesley showed up, so I forgot all about Dawn’s phone hating me. We filled one another in on how our trips had been going so far while waiting for Dawn & Chuck to show up. After a while, I tried Dawn’s phone again and this time I disguised my voice so I could leave a message. After reading Dawn’s TR, I realize that we were probably standing 10 feet away from each other and looking in opposite directions the whole time. Sorry we missed you Dawn!
TOT was a walk-on, then we headed for RNRC. RNRC had a hideous wait. BUT! Being the Queen of FastPass (and no, I’m never going to let anyone forget it! ) I just happened to have two FPs on me. (If you’ve been paying attention, you were probably wondering about the two unused RNRC FP I had). Even though they were expired, and EMH had started, and FPs weren’t being distributed (and why not GRR!), the CM let us use them. So in a way, it was good that it was only the two of us (though we really missed you Dawn & Chuck ).
I think this is when we got our picture made, though it could’ve been before we rode. I didn’t take the best of notes. Lesley will correct me if I’m wrong. We asked the Photopass CM to take pictures with both our cameras. I asked him to take one without flash and he was quite proud of how it came out. I have to say, I was pretty pleased myself!
Passporter Mini Meet!
Next, Lesley and I hit the GMR and I shared with her the Cyd Charisse story <shudder>. Thinking back, I guess I’m turning into my DM with the telling of doofy stories. Well Lesley laughed, so I think she didn’t mind. We didn’t actually see that scene, but I don’t know if it was because we were so busy talking or we just didn’t have a long wait.
After the GMR, Lesley needed to do some shopping and I was ready to head back to AKL, so we said our goodbyes, planning to meet at the Adventurer’s Club the next night.
Up Next: My Run-in With a Celebrity!!!!!

Great update! Wow! You really live up to your Fastpass Queen moniker don't you
I love the photo of you and Lesley. I'm so envious of the opportunities you guys get to meet up with other PassPorters.
I'll definitely look out for Syd Charisse the next time I ride the GMR

Oh, I hate that moment in Singin' In The Rain -- a "French exhale" is just gross!!
So excited to see that you and Lesley hooked up for some fun (even if you missed Chuck and Dawn!) And how cool about the FPs for RNRC, Your Majesty!
