Meri's Dream Come True - A Birthday Celebration! - PTR updated 02/04/2014 - Page 13 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love the tea party idea! And with regard to the pictures and frame I think that will be a huge hit. Kelsey has those from some parties she's been to - pictures with the girl who has the party - and she loves them.
Glad you finally got your cabin assignment!
I need to see a picture of your creme brûlée to compare to Hazel's cafe's version. Better, you can each send me one and I'll taste test compare!
Glad the cabin assignment came through eventually for you!
Thanks! I've never done a "guarantee" cabin before - we've always had our stateroom at booking, so this is new to me, and I'm not exactly known for my patience... lol.

My understanding is the resort monorail will be down weekdays from 11:30 am until 7pm - until sometime in March.
Hm. Ok. Good to know this. Thanks!

Tea party sounds like lots of fun!! What a cute idea with the picture frames! Still can believe camera is missing in action! Hope you find it before you leave!
So glad the cabin assignment came through finally! I really thought they'd let you know much earlier than just 9 days before. Have you looked at the Orlando weather forecasts lately? The temps keep going UP. When I first started checking the daytime temps all next week were in the 50's and low 60's. Now they're in the 70's and low 80's!!

I hope the girls love it - I do think they will. I'll definitely send you a bite of my Creme Brulee... but I can't vouch for how it's going to taste when it gets to you, lol!

I know, I really thought we'd get it at least 2 weeks out if not sooner, but... hey at least we got it before check-in... I guess that's got to be something, huh? I hope the temps keep rising! I'm so cold here it's in my bones and I can't stop shivering! I'm so ready for some warmth! Besides, I want a late-night swim, lol!

Hey hey Colleen my Creme Brulee is the bestest. If you don't believe me best you come try it for yourself....
I am so loving your plans for Meri's birthday but the devil in me is wondering how much of a rod you are creating for your back. I means if she gets a 3 night cruise for her 8th how are you going to top that for her 8th her 16th, 18th, 21st. You are gonna have to do a round the world cruise before she graduates. Oh wait i'm failing to see the downside of my argument.
You will have to teach her that what goes around comes around so if you are treating her to cruises now she can treat you when she is the grown up.

I know what you're saying! We do something "Disney" for her birthday about 50% of the time. I think we've done it for 2, 3 and 5. Did we do it for 6? I can't recall off of the top of my head but I don't think so, because that's the year that we moved into the new house (and I did WDW with Crissy for her bachelorette party)... we definitely didn't do it for 4 or 7.
Great plans. How exciting to be pulling off two surprises (birthday party extras and cruise) And I think it's totally awesome yáll are celebrating her golden birthday ON the cruise ship!

It's definitely been an experience! It will be fun, though, and I'm definitely glad to spend her actual birthday on board. That just adds to what's already going to be a special cruise just for the fact that we're on a Disney ship!
It's funny, for two weeks or so, I've been pulling up the DCL site and logging in to see if my cabin has been assigned. Now that it has been, I still am in the habit of logging in every day and looking at the reservation, but it's so anti-climactic now because I already KNOW my cabin. Oh well!
A few little very boring things... my updates are total snooze-fests now...
1) I have yet to pack. I'm going to have to pack Sunday night during the second half of the Super Bowl... because there's just no time between now and then! I've got to find a box to accommodate all of the FE gifts. I will probably go into the storage shed at work and empty out one of the boxes in there (full of to-go stuff) and steal the box, ha! All of the to-go stuff is wrapped securely in packaging, so it's not unsanitary, don't worry!
2) I still can't find the stupid camera, but my friend said I could borrow hers, so at least we're in good shape there. I will likely pick it up tomorrow night so that I have the weekend to fiddle with it and get used to it before bringing it. I bet I'll find the stupid camera the day I return, and it will be in some really bizarre, outlandish place. I can't wait...
3) I came up with another idea - definitely not an original one, but it's new to me, so I'm excited. I had read a long time ago about bringing a pillowcase on board with markers, and leaving it at Guest Services, and at the end of the cruise, all of the characters will have signed it. I decided to do that for Meri, BUT, my friend is going to stitch on the front: "Happy 8th Birthday, Meredith!" and then below it "Disney Dream, February 6-9, 2014" I figured that would be something neat, and then the characters could sign it, and Meri could have a neat pillowcase to remind her of the trip. I'm going to drop the pillowcase off at Alisha's tomorrow night, and then she'll get it back to me on Monday. I'll tuck it in a large ziploc with some sharpies, and label the bag with our name and cabin number for easy return! So there's that.
4) It's hard to believe that exactly a week from right this moment, I'll be on board the Disney Dream, in my cabin, probably unpacking or taking a snooze... crazy, right??? I'll already have seen Heather at MK, and I'll already have had breakfast with Laurie! BUT, I won't have seen Hazel yet, so I'll still have a PP'er meet to look forward to!
5) I have a pedicure on Sunday afternoon! I'm so excited! My cousin gave me a gift certificate at Christmas, and once I booked the cruise I KNEW I was going to use it for this Sunday, lol! I'm going to head over right after church, sending Meri home with mom, and I'm going to enjoy an hour of being pampered! YAY!
Meri is all packed, the FE bags are all done. Can I just GO already?!?!?!
The pillowcase will be wonderful! I love the idea of embroidering it first. Eventually, you'll have to frame it or make a quilt out of it or something so it doesn't get washed too often. Enjoy your pampering pedicure!
