As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Wow! What a spectacle! That may move on to my bucket list.
I was in marching band, and it is a lot of practice to have such tight formation. The numbers there are awesome. I love seeing all those in their clan colors.
Saturday 26 August – part twelve: “I bet they’re going to set fire to it”
Next was a section about the Shetlands, Hjaltibonhoga – the Shetland Fiddlers, bringing to life the story of the Viking invasion and settlement on Shetland. This was about their mid winter festival Up Helly Aa. Now halfway through this, they brought in a Viking boat, and Mark said to me “I bet they’re going to set fire to it”… and wouldn’t you know it, he was right!
We were then into a massive Highland dance routine from the Tattoo Dance Company, made up of 50 dancers drawn from across the world, where we could seriously only spot one guy in amongst all these women.
Then we went to the Far East for the Japan Ground Self Defence Central Band. Remember Matsuriza, the Japanese drummers at Epcot? Well, their male equivalent was here…
They had Samurai sword fighting as part of this…
… and this beautiful singer. I have nothing but admiration for people who step up and either sing, dance, or as you’ll see later on, play the bagpipes on your own. Fair play. Sure, coordinating with a lot of other people is tough, but it’s even tougher to be out there with no-one else around.
Then we were into the United States Naval Forces Europe Band…

The next section was Ambush in the Glen from the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, which told the story of the Jacobites against the Government Redcoats. This was something that meant quite a lot to us, having visited Culloden battlefield just a few short weeks ago, where the two sides fought. Of course, it was done without the blood, although the children were warned that if they had any “nervous parents”, they might want to look after them, as there would be big bangs at this point, and they weren’t joking. Good grief, if anyone was at danger of falling asleep, they’d be awake now!
This is amazing. I don't even know what to say! Just amazing!
The plaid projections are really cool - heck, all the projections are really cool! Wow.

October 6, 2017-Enjoying an amazing dinner at Victoria & Albert's with PP's Dot and Drew

Quite a show as so extensive with so much detailing with the theming, costumes, performers and sets. I can't even imagine the amount of planning that went into this show and pull it off without major glitches!
No, neither can I. It must take months. They probably start as soon as one year's shows are over...
Saturday 26 August – part thirteen: firework time!
Then it was back to the navy, and if you think that I’m saying the navy a lot, that’s because they’re the represented force of the three for this year’s Tattoo. This time, things were brought up to date a lot more, complete with helicopter brought into the arena, and lights flashing around the arena, as it was made out to look like a landing deck on one of HMS Queen Elizabeth, the UK’s newest aircraft carrier. This was combined with more of a “rock” feel to the piece, alongside the traditional bands, which was interesting, and I quite enjoyed, although of course there was still a military aspect to it, with the Queen’s Colour Squadron with the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment.

At one point, it all went dark, and it looked as if the performers were guiding aircraft into land, very cool!
Then it started to wind up to the finale, with more and more performers gradually coming out for it, until everyone was assembled. It was quite the sight. I was shocked how many people there were in total. I knew it was a lot, but when you saw them altogether, it brought it home to you. It’s not like West End (or for you guys Broadway) shows or perhaps even some shows at Disney parks or on board the Disney ships, where you get to the end and realise half the performers had three roles in the show!
It was at this point the fireworks started. Up until that point, we’d seen the occasional firework go off, and I’d manage to miss them all. However, I was hoping there’d be an actual display, and finally there was, so I was able to capture them. Thank goodness I’d been able to practice taking fireworks shots during our last Disney vacation, and I know had a bit of an idea what I was doing…
Following the fireworks, which neither of us remembered going on for that long, but these photos appeared to indicate otherwise we had another Highland fling, this time right in front of us, which was nice.
Then they did a presentation to Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Grace, who was retiring as the principal director of music at the Tattoo, which was a nice touch. Apparently he’s been responsible for something like 600 shows over the last 23 years, which is pretty darned impressive.
