An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

More great plans! I'm intrigued by the SW Dooney & Bourke bag. Hoping I can see what it looks like. On our last trip in February they had new Dooney & Bourke bags that were so pretty. I regret now being good and passing them by.
In the past I've been good and passed on the limited edition D&B bags as they usually cost a little more. But Luke talked me into the exclusive F&WF D&B, so I'm not planning to turn down a SW one if I like it.

POLY?????? So jealous!!!! Can't wait to see all your photos and hear all about it!!!
Your plans are looking great!!!
I've been reading our recent edition of Disney Files Magazine (DVC quarterly magazine) which is mainly about the Polynesian Village Resort. Now I'm just getting more excited.
All caught up again!! I am still a little confused on the FP+ system but I am looking forward to being able to enter the parks leisurely instead of rushing to get FP like we have in the past. Heck one day we might even sleep in this trip.
Does the storage under those Poly beds not look so cool?
I love that storage drawer. So smart of Disney to think of that.

The more times we use the FP+ system the better and easier it seems.
A Side Note: I was busy this weekend, which kept me from getting another update posted. My dad decided last fall that it was time to sell his home and its contents and move in permanently with June and her family. The auction is Saturday, April 18, less than a month from now. June has been working steadily on boxing up everything since late November. But the weather has kept Luke and me at home every single time we had planned to head down to help. We finally made it down this weekend and managed to help them get the garage 95% boxed. We were exhausted afterwards, but also felt like we had accomplished something. We’ll be back down this coming weekend and the following Wednesday to complete work on the basement. June and I haven’t felt emotional (at least not yet), but I can tell that in some ways it bothers Dad. He lived in this house with my mom for 40+ years. I only lived there 4 years, so a totally different perspective. My updates may be sporadic for the next 3 weeks as we finalize all this.
Saturday, May 16
This day finds us back at Animal Kingdom. Since Friday will be our longest day with all the Star Wars Weekends festivities, we are planning to sleep in, arriving at the park a little before lunch time. We have booked the following FastPass+ selections.
Finding Nemo - The Musical 11:30 AM - 11:50 AM (We’ve actually not seen this show the last few trips, so it’s time to head back for some amazing puppeteering and singing. We decided to FP+ this one as otherwise we seem to forget about it.)
It's Tough to be a Bug! 1:05 PM - 2:05 PM (We love this 3D experience, except for the creepy crawlies at the end. I’m just speaking for myself on that part as I don’t think much bothers Luke.)
Kilimanjaro Safaris 2:35 PM - 3:35 PM (I’m not sure how much activing we will see on a mid-afternoon safaris, but KS is a must do for me every time we visit AK. I’ll be looking closely for any new babies on our trek. )
After KS, we will consider whether we want to stay at the park or return to the resort for some relaxing before dinner.
We will head to Downtown Disney Area/Disney Springs for dinner at Portobello Country Italian Trattoria at 7:15 PM. This will be another first for us.
Sunday, March 17
Today is our second Magic Kingdom day, but prior to entering the park, we will trek across the Poly to Kona Café for breakfast at 9:30 AM. This is our second new restaurant. I was excited today when I opened up our newest addition of Disney Files, the DVC magazine, and discovered a recipe for Tonga Toast. I’m not fond of cooked bananas, but Luke may order this.
With bellies full, our next adventures will take us to the Magic Kingdom. We’ve lined up the following FP+ selections. You will notice that we’ve given ourselves plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast. I’m pretty sure we’ll arrive well before our first time slot, and I’m sure we’ll have no trouble finding something to do, especially since there will probably be attractions we did not cover on our first day here.
Space Mountain 12:05 PM - 1:05 PM (Once a trip is my limit now for this coaster as my head does not like the motion much at all. I’m planning on taking some Dramamine along for rides like this.)
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM (We both still enjoy this attraction, but it has lost some of the excitement since TSMM came.)
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM (This may become like KS at AK in that we want to do it every time we come to MK.)
We have no ADR for dinner. The original plan as I mentioned earlier was to eat at Big River Grille, which does not take ADRs. But since we’ll now have had breakfast at Kona Café, we will probably just eat at one of the counter service restaurants at the park.
Monday, May 18
Today we will be back at Disney's Hollywood Studios for a second and last day. Again we are planning a late start. We have found that the first few days we don’t have problems getting up early, but as the trip goes on, we want more sleep. Our FastPass+ selections today are:
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 12:45 PM - 1:45 PM (My favorite and a must do for both of us)
Toy Story Midway Mania! 2:40 PM - 3:40 PM (TSMM and ToT are another two that we do every single time we are in the park.)
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show 4:00 PM - 4:20 PM (We have not seen this show since June 2013, and with all the rumors circulating about the redo of DHS, we’re trying to get all the attractions in.)
I’m sure both this day and our first day, Luke will use the single rider line for Rock ‘n Roller Coaster. My motion sickness will keep me from ever riding this one.
For dinner we are headed to Disney's BoardWalk Inn to dine at Trattoria al Forno at 7:15 PM. This will be our third new restaurant. Just today, I read an article in Disney Files about this restaurant. The more I read and hear about this one the more excited I get.

Great plans! Nice that you have some new dining experiences lined up.
Dramamine is a must for me as well. I usually just take one every morning. Then no matter what we end up riding, I'm ok. Except for tea cups and Space Mountain!
I had no idea your trip was so long....May 16-Mar 17-May 18? That's a full year! I don't have enough points for that!
Sorry, had to tease a little. I actually got confused when I saw March 17, as I thought you were heading down soon, but then started questioning whether it was a TR, and I lost track?!
Either way, plans sound great!
Some great plans and I'm g;ad you will be once again trying some new dining experiences. I enjoyed Portobello a couple of years ago, (since the rehab) and Kona for breakfast a couple of times at the Poly, when I stayed there in 2009. I ate once at BRG when I stayed at the BWI, but that was back in 2005. I found the cuisine just mediocre and service pretty poor and slow. This was mid afternoon for lunch and they were not that busy on my arrival day at the end of February. I ate outside as it was a warm day.
Perhaps, instead of CS in the MK for dinner, you may want to consider one of the MK resort restaurants. Perhaps The Wave, which isn't overly pricey or a CS at one of these resorts, which is probably better than CS in the MK and less crowded!
Hope all goes well with the move and the rest of packing for your Dad!
