Mom & Me, Work & Fun PTR (Sept. 7-14, 2013) - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm all caught up. I wish I could come down and go to the Villains event with you, that sounds like so much fun. Definitely try to stay until the 13th hour! I hope things are getting a little easier with school this week.

Glad you got caught up, I always fall behind on TR's. I wish you could too! That would be too fun. I am sure my mom won't make it to the 13th hour, but I am going to give it a shot, we leave the next day, so why not. School is doing better, still snits and fits but the work is getting done. We will get into routine soon.
Thought I would pop in here to do a quick little update.
Today I drove into town (3 hour roundtrip) to visit Sam's Club to get some things for the kids and Pat while I'm gone. Pat is a good cook, but he doesn't like shopping, so I thought I would help him out. We also stopped at the pet store and got dog food, I was hoping to get enough to last till I get back but they only had two bags in stock. But I will be going to the other town (2 hour round trip) next week for an orthodontist appointment for Shana and will pick some up then. We stopped at the Tractor Supply store to get chicken food, but they were sold out. Apparently 15 minutes before we got there some guy came in and bought the last pallet of it. How rude! Did he not think that people planning Disney trips might need some before they go!!! We are almost out and they can't wait till next Weds. so we will actually be driving into the other town tomorrow, I may just get the dog food then as well, but we will see what else we are doing.
I also started gathering things for my suitcase. A couple weeks ago I ordered a travel kit with all of my face and body products (I use/sell Arbonne and I love the little travel kits). I usually use a laundry basket to put everything in before I pack it, but Chessie (our puppy) has decided she should take things out of the basket and leave them around the house. I found the travel kit near the laundry room and my pins/lanyard in the kitchen. I didn't think this was going to work too well for me to make sure I had everything, so I pulled out the suitcase and am sticking them in there. But I will probably pull everything out and repack once I gather everything.
I got my camera out and uploaded all the pictures off of it and got it ready to go. I have decided that when I go into Albuquerque to pick up Pat, I will stop at Best Buy and get another memory card and some rechargeable batteries. I have some rechargeables in it, but they have been recharged many times and I don't want to be fussing with batteries when I'm there. I have decided not to bring my laptop (it sucks) so I won't be able to upload any pics while I'm there.
I have been busy with homeschooling and it is going pretty good. I think we have not had one day without someone having some sort of fit. But the kids are getting their work done in a pretty timely manner and they are doing well on their assignments. They are both looking forward to the "2-Week End" as they are calling the 2-week break we are taking when Daddy gets home.
I am also trying to hurry and get some things do for Girl Scouts before I go so that we can hopefully get a troop started. Shana has been in Girl Scouts since Kindergarten and she loves it. There are no troops in town and she is recruiting some girls to start a troop with. The hard part is I have to redo all the training even though I have been a leader for 8 years, since it was all done in CO.
Weight Loss: Okay, I'm not doing as good as I would like to be, but I am very busy and not really paying much attention. I'm sure it doesn't help when I go into town and have to get Taco Bell and/or Dairy Queen with the kids. I actually know exactly what I can eat at Taco Bell and be okay on my weight loss, if it's not frequent. I am at 221.2 for this week, at this point if I could lose just a couple more I would be happy. I'm going to try to focus a little more, stopping at Sam's was good, we were able to get some fresh fruits and salad.
I really cannot believe this trip is only 16 days away! I have never felt so relaxed and so excited at the same time. I think not having to pack for 2 other people is helping with the relaxed part.

I've been away so got a bit behind, but I think I'm caught up now. Good luck getting all your shopping and preparation done before the trip. Annoying to have to go to another town for the dog and chicken food!
Whew! I was a little behind...no worries, I'm all caught up now! 15 days until we are both in Disney! YAY!!! Your final plans are coming together! We won't be at Hollywood Studios for the Villains event so I hope you have a fantastic time! It's also a MNSSHP night at Magic Kingdom so maybe the crowds won't be too bad? I've already started packing too (only because I have to pack in secrecy since DD doesn't know about the trip yet) since I had these little pockets of time where I could get it done. DD is just about completely packed, DH just needs to add shorts and shoes, same for me plus some last minute toiletries and that's it! I'm getting very excited for both of us!!!

It is annoying, especially when the towns are so far away. We have all come to enjoy longer drives though. The kids read and listen to music and I listen to books on tape, so I'm kind of happy I will get some more of my book "read"

That would be awesome. I will send a PM later today. I have to get the kids moving this morning.

I think the puppy is just a stinker-butt. She takes things all the time and hides them. I think having a basket full of things, she thought I was putting things out to play the game. It was kind of funny finding the things all over the house, and thankfully she didn't chew any of them up. I do feel better that Pat will be home and we don't have to get the petsitter (although our petsitter is wonderful).

I don't know how I missed your TR! I am going to have to read that, especially since we are there the same time. We did a surprise trip in 2008 and packing in secrecy is tough. Sounds like you are a bit more packed than I am. But some of the clothes I'm taking are things I wear frequently, so I'm going to do laundry a day or so before and just pack all the clothes than. It is so much easier with it just being me. Toiletries I pack the night before and the morning of, since I need some of them that day.
