Brent and Liz's Valentine's day/Anniversary TR: Slippers, Satchels, Special Cinderellas, Surprises, Friends...and Ducks? - UPDATED 3/24 COMPLETE! - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I so agree with you Liz. our 'magical' moments haven't come from anything that we bought, it came from interaction with people. Those moments still make you tear up or get a silly smile years later just thinking about them.
Oh, and I think it is valuable for me to take note, here and now, to how wonderful Brent was about recognizing my weight loss efforts. Sighhhh. As we were walking to the main building at POP I walked between the large "8" and "0" icons that are part of the "1980" saying near the main building entrance. They are quite close together. I'm not sure I could have done it in the previous years so I thought to myself....."well, I see other people doing it.....so I am" (insert confidence feeling here). Brent turns to me and says "well.....look at that!!!!" I smiled knowing he noticed. . Then he says "We didn't even have to grease you up this year". So I had to slap him up a bit and then it was all good! LOL. This is just the way we joke. Some of our friends don't understand it. We tend to live in the moment and joke about everything.......even stuff most people would not find humorous.
Anxiously awaiting the next update!!!! Its going to get sooooo funny!!! [/QUOTE]
We do the same thing, people probably wouldn't think it funny but, us hilarious.

I want all the of this TR to know that Brent and Liz are just as and and and in person as they are in their stories and pictures. I highly recommend a meet with the two of them if you can possibly swing it.
Liz, I love your idea of a meet with some of the furry "characters" but now I SO want to watch Brent with his Cinderella sometime, too. But in case that never happens, I want to say to you both for sharing that story here with the rest of us.
I'm betting you created a few moments for the readers of this report.

Wow....the ED, huh? You must have some exciting nights. Thats why I love psych, never a dull moment.
I think that is so cool that you give us enough thought to tell your co-workers and hubby our stories. Awwweeee. I feel so special. We are happy to have you along with us for the ride.
We went to Animal Kingdom today and arrived pretty much right at park opening and went on our must do rides. Got a fastpass for Everest, then rode the Safari, then cashed in our Everest Fastpass. We then made our way over to Dinosaur and rode the ride like Dumbo there. I rode Expedition Everest again on our way back through. I really love that ride. We paused for a photopass picture:
And Liz took some fun shots of me:
By now it was time for lunch and we chose the Flame Tree. Here is where we encounter our duck. Birds are always in the seating area where people eat, rummaging about for food. Well apparently ducks aren’t allowed to do that, or this one was getting a little too aggressive. For whatever reason, a couple cast members from Animal Control came and caught the duck and put him in a little carrier cage. The duck is thrashing all about quacking and fluttering, and just making lots of noise. They finally were able to stuff him in the cage. I look at my ribs, and Liz looks at her chicken and we both say “I guess the dinner special just got changed!” Then I had an inspiration. Suddenly a little Skynyrd came to mind. I looked at Liz and must’ve got that look in my eye, because Liz got that “I know he’s about to come up with something incredibly funny” look. I don’t think I disappointed her. I looked her straight in the eye and started humming “If I leave here tomorrow . . . . . . Would you still remember me . . . . .” Then her face lit up, we both cracked up then we harmonized in singing all the lines of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Free Bird’ that we could remember. Then we lifted our arms and started waiving them back and forth like we were holding a lighter at a rock concert. Then, we got up and followed the cast members taking the poor duck away while doing this. (Not at all sure that was appreciated, but it seemed hilarious at the time!) I don’t know, maybe it was one of those “You had to be there, moments, “ but it was unbelievably funny. People must have thought we were crazy because we just got a lot of looks. No one got up and joined us. Can you believe that?
Anyway, we spent a little more time at Animal Kingdom then headed back to the resort to freshen up and swim a bit. Then it was off to Whispering Canyon for dinner. We were seated by the fireplace. It was very nice and cozy. It was off the main dining room so we weren’t a part of the shenanigans and hijinx that usually goes on but it was very appropriate for just the two of us. Dinner was great as always. We ordered the skillet. We found out the table right next to us had a family from Battle Creek Michigan. Just like us! What are the odds? We told them the road we lived on, and they mentioned a guy I went to High School with. It was almost kind of eerie.
From there we caught the ferry boat to the Magic Kingdom to spend a little time there. We saw the Princesses first as I had to get my daily Princess fix in. We saw Aurora first and she asked us what we did today. I replied we went to Animal Kingdom today. She said “Oh! Did you see any of my forest friends” I replied, well, we did and we witnessed something kind of upsetting. We had lunch there and there was this duck that was getting a little too aggressive and we saw them come grab him and put him in a cage to take him away. She looked shocked and said “Oh! No!” I said “Yea it was tragic. We did our best to support the little fellow though. We started following behind them singing ‘Free Bird’ and I hummed a few bars, ‘If I leave here tomorrow . . ‘ and Liz smiled, knodded, and started waiving her arms. Princess Aurora got this puzzled look on her face and then did this:
She caught herself very quickly and gathered herself enough to say. “Well, I’ll just have to make sure I feed my forest friends a little more so they won’t get themselves in trouble from now on.” And gave us the warmest smile you can imagine. It was sooo funny. I’m glad we caught the picture at that very moment. Here she is after she gathered herself.
Then we saw Belle:
Cinderella remembered my slippers and asked me why I wasn’t wearing them.
I persuaded her I was saving the magic slippers for Valentine's day. She seemed ok with that:
Then we saw Mickey real quick:
I told him I saw him kissing my girl and I was watching you mouse! Then he dismissed me with a wave of his hand. Such a flirty arrogant mouse!
Then we strolled around the MK a little while then headed for the room. All in all a good day. The encounter with the duck was quite the highlight. The best memorable moments are to come though, I promise!
Next : Breakfast at Crystal Palace and we meet another old friend. And later, what am I doing here with a chipmunk???
And why am I hugging a step sister????
Stay tuned! All these questions and more will be answered! The best of this trip is truly yet to come!
Brent

#1. You should have seen these people, they jumped out of the bushes all stealth like. Grasped this bird by the neck and then the struggle was on! He/She was NOT going down quietly! You could hear quacking and flopping and feathers were definitely ruffled. I almost felt bad for the bird but somehow the humor of the situation overtook the bad feelings….lol. I mean, its Disney, they are not going to harm him. Probably just dropped him off somewhere.
#2. Once again....that warped sence of humor we share.......
#3. It was just hillarious. Brent tossed out the words "if I leave here tomorrow" and by then we were in full blow "WILL YOU STILL REMEMBER ME......" I remember looking around at other people and no one else thought it was even remotely humorous. I was shocked. I said to Brent “some people are just a little too uptight.”
Ohhhh, laughed about this the whole vacation. Still do! Hope you enjoyed the story as much as we did.
More later. At work.
Side note, we saw a deer on the way back to POP, I am amazed at the size difference between their deer and our hearty version. Theirs are more like large dogs. Hmmmmm?
