The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

No alarm today! But we were still up at 8:20. We had only had plans for DTD today as I wanted Chuck to see it in the daylight. We had only ever been there after dinner at Boma on our first night (same with last year). We took our time getting ready. Moleskin to the blisters, coffee, check the weather, etc. We left at about 10:15 am and took the bus to DTD. Instead of breakfast, we had an early lunch at Earl of Sandwich (1st for us). Chuck had the Full Montague and I had the Hawaiian BBQ.
Then we walked a bit more and I lost Chuck (mentally). He checked out and we sat for a while people watching. His response was “it’s just like a big mall” I said “Yeah but it’s Disney”. Still, we were pretty shopped out and starting to not enjoy ourselves so once we got to World of Disney we turned around and headed back. We did stop at Ghirardelli (1st for us) for an ice cream. I had a cookie bottom hot fudge sundae and Chuck had some sort of mocha chip in a waffle bowl.
Full tummies or not, it did not prevent us from getting to go items at Goofy's Candy Co. We did the special order pretzels (3 pretzels - we got milk, dark and white chocolate with almonds, cookie crumbs and rainbow sprinkles drizzled with dark, white and milk chocolate all respectively) and we got a Mickey rice crispy treat covered with milk chocolate and cookie drizzled with dark chocolate. I also got 3 chocolate covered strawberries and a red velvet cake pop - yum. Unfortunately - no pics of these. We then headed for the busses.
We passed by on the way home. I so want to live here!
Once back at the Contemporary, we went to Fantasia Market because Chuck wasn’t feeling very well and wanted some Alka Seltzer. (could it be the DxDP got to him?) We went back to our room and put our candies in the fridge. We were going to swim for a bit but I kind of made Chuck lay down after taking his medicine and he was out in no time. So I just got online for a while.
When Chuck woke up, we got ready and went to Epcot for a bit. We wanted to see Off Kilter, as we had missed them the other day.
We made it for the 5:30 show. During the show, I was videoing it and Chuck took the camera for me because he had a better view. The advantage of being 6’4” and not 5’5”. But then he had me take over again because he needed to go get something to eat. He was having a low blood sugar moment. Shaky. Luckily there was a cart right next to the stage, so we got a cookie and a Sprite and sat for a bit. He started to feel a little better so we started walking. We made our way over to Mexico and went in for some shopping and a margarita!
Full Moon over Mexico -
I took a pic of me and the margarita with my phone and sent it to my BFF because we did that very same thing in April 2010. She responded “Your in Mexico!!!! Have one for me” I just love her! (she was the one who started my obsession with all things Disney) We did get some blanket coats and a bag. Then we walked around the WS a bit, but there were still lots of people at the F&WF. We made our way up to the monorail and we went to O’Hana for dinner.
Our ressie was for 8 pm and we had to wait maybe 5 -10 mins but not bad. Then they took us to our table. Now this was not planned but we had the BEST VIEW of the castle and fireworks! We have never eaten here before and it was really good. I got a Lapu Lapu
Sorry, it's a little dark.
and then we enjoyed all the grilled meats, pineapple bread, salad, pot stickers and wings, broccoli, and those noodles!
Mel - you were absolutely right! Those noodles are yummy! They had the kids race coconuts and then we had their bread pudding for dessert.
With full bellies, we made our way out to the monorail and just headed back to the room. We were very tired and in bed by 10.
Up next - 11/11/11 Did we make all 4 parks like we wanted to?

At my house! When I work twelve hour shifts I am a dieticians worst nightmare. Also would it not be awesome if we could feel full looking at food pictures. This place would be the worlds best diet plan!
Great earrings! I love that they matched the pearls for you! My ring from the Pick a Pearl is one of my all time favorite Disney purchases. I so wish we had an Earl of Sandwich here--I find myself craving their sandwiches in between trips. The Sundae from Ghiradelli's looks fabulous--they just announced that they are opening one at DL, but it will be long after my trip! So neat to have fireworks viewing seats during dinner. I love me a Lapu Lapu, but sadly I don't love 'Ohana.
The earrings are beautiful!
The food pictures are awesome! I'm enjoying them. I love how you took pictures of almost everything because it really helps to see what's what on the menu's.
Looking forward to more!
YAY I'm all caught up!!! I haven't eaten breakfast yet and of course you DID warn us... and I'm STARVING! Especially ending with that photo of the noodles... *sob* I so need an Ohana dinner in 2012!!
Loving this TR, you really are having a great time, and wow you're getting a lot done!

Oh - I know about those 12 hour shifts! You come home and raid the kitchen. Unfortunately, that is at about 4 am for me - so not always a good idea to eat at that early hour.

If it weren't for the blue box you would never know the difference AND both are special bc they came from special people.
We had full bellies all the time thanks to the DxDP! You are so right about the pearls!

They were all terrific food days for the most part! I had a bite of his sandwich and it was really good. I was thinking about that but the Hawaiian caught my eye. And it tasted like a Hawaiian pizza in a sandwich! My fav!

Thanks. We did take pics of everything we ate (or tried). It seems that I have more food pics and pics in AK than of anything else.

Glad you caught up. I don't understand why you were behind - only working 80+ hours a week, Christmas, Meri, etc.. Sheesh - I get tired just reading about your endeavors!
