2 Year Anniversary PTR September 2010 - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This sounds great! We could meet at the France Slushie Cart right in front of France if you want. I'll PM my celly so you know that, for any reason. 9:30 or 10:00 sounds good and reasonable. Yay! I can't wait! France has really good slushies too, adult slushies. Yum-O!
I'm glad I realized at the last minute as I was posting about the Epcot thing being open till midnight.
That sounds wonderful! I just realized though, I don't know your name! Unless you want me to call you "Sparky" on the phone....lol!
It sounds like you have a great trip in the works! Plus a PP meet! I just love meeting PP people! I would double check the ADR situation by calling. Happy planning! Oh by the way if you are looking for another shoe purchase I tour in Teva Mush Flip Flops--they are fabulous. In fact they are the only shoes I wear when I'm not at work (in my uniform and black shoes---I'm a bartender and on my feet at least 50hrs a week at work)

Thanks! I'm SO excited about our trip. I'll definitely have to check out those flip flops also.

I now have you in my phone as "Larisa Sparky - PassPorter." Just thought you might want to know. I'm going to have a really hard time NOT calling you Sparky, now that I know how much it tickled you.

It's cool, I think it's kind of funny my PP WDW friends call my Sparky!! LMBO I really love this site, it's like a little community of friends, I see with your PTR and mine, and many others as well...the same basic people are reading stuff and responding with a couple newbies thrown in. It's fun to get to know people who have a mutual interest as you, actually that is one of the things I love about WDW in general. While there I have never talked to so many people! I think your in the world and you have an obvious common interest, so it's very easy to strike up a conversation. On here it's the same, but you actually get to know people better. I play on the POGO website (it's a gaming site) and have a couple of gf's I met on there, that I play with a lot. I really love my online friends! Can't wait to meet up!
Sparky (HAHAHAHA, I couldnt resist! Check out my new signature line! LOL) You know where I got my name dont you?
So, when I asked David originally if we could book another trip while down in WDW if we received a bounceback offer, he said no. He didn't think it would be a good idea, and (I'm pretty sure) that he was worried about what his parents would think of us "wasting" our money on another trip so soon after our last one. (They're really not thrilled that we're going on this one, but we're adults and can manage our own funds just fine, thank you very much.)
Well, we were driving home last night (after seeing TS3 in 3-D Imax - AWESOME), and we started talking about the trip and I was like "So, you remember how I told you about bounceback offers?" He said yes, so I asked again, "If we get one while we're down there, can we book another trip? We just have to put down a deposit, we don't have to pay in full or anything, so we'd have time to save..."
"Sure. I think that would be a great idea, as long as it was far enough out that we would have time to save for another trip. And if we don't get a bounceback offer, I think we should just go on another trip to Disney World next September."
Up until now it's been "We can't afford another trip next September, at least not to WDW...let's go to California and check out Disney Land instead."
He admitted last night that he doesn't want to go to Disneyland. He thinks it's aimed more at a younger population, and said that the thought of doing something Disney-related without his favorite park (Animal Kingdom), just didn't appeal to him. I told him we should still check it out some day, even if it is just a day or two of a tour around Southern California. I have heard they have a Southern California Pass. So he agreed, but "not next year, next year let's do Disney World."
Insert excited scream here.
Three years in a row! THREE years in a row I get to go to my favorite place on Earth! Seriously? I love my husband. He rocks.
So of course, now I'm excited because I have a whole 'nother Disney trip to plan, and we haven't even gone on this one yet!
I am trying to avoid any planning yet, because I don't really know how the bounceback thing works. Do they specify dates and hotels? Or just dates? Does it depend on the offer? Anyway...I'm going to at least start thinking about what different restaurants we want to try, because we always do the BDP.
Of course I'm getting ahead of myself. What kind of Disney Fanatic would I be if I didn't??
Jess, the bounceback works for any resort. There are certain dates you can book, and they are provided with the bounceback so you can plan. Sometimes they are for room discounts or free dining. When you book you can change your dates later if necessary or cancel even if need be.
I am hoping for a bounceback so I can book for next year with DH and DD-6. I am hoping for room discounts, hoping to book AKL for one night (savannah view, zenra trail overlooking arusha(?) rock, at 40% off. Then POP for 6 nights with the DxDP.
Hahahaha I have already done TONS of research and planning of different scenarios, so when I get the bounceback I will just be able to look over my charts and choose my vaca. I know such a nerd, but I dont want to be figuring out the possiblities and the expenses while there.
I say when I get the bounceback, bc until I dont get one, that is how I am looking at it!
PS...I am booking for next Sept as well! I love goin in Sept. the crowds are so low! I went last Sept and we walked onto every ride. Only 2 or 3 times did we have to wait, and at that it was only about 15 min.!

So are there generally a few different dates to choose from?
So you've been in September before? Was "Sounds Dangerous" open? And "Ellens Energy Adventure?"
We missed those last time because they were "Seasonal" or something, and I really want David to experience at LEAST Ellen. I've never been in "Sounds Dangerous."

Yes they give you date ranges as far as I know. I havent booked a bounceback, but did have one in the room last year I looked at, and have been doing as much research on here as I can about it.
From what I have seen and learned, you are given date ranges such as, Sept-Nov. with Thanksgiving blocked out.
EEA was open when I was there, but SD was not. I heard that SD has not been open in a while and there is speculation as to whether it will. Not a very popular ride. I personally havent done either, I wouldnt mind seeing EEA, but I am not sad if SD closes and I never see it. Not a Drew Carey fan here.

Thanks. Drew Carey is okay. David likes him a lot. I thought he was pretty funny as the host for Whose Line is it Anyway. But anyway, I'll pass the news along to David, as he was the one concerned about it.
