Solo and Not So Solo TR - updated with final Magical Moment! - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just read your whole TR and loved it! I've never been on a solo trip but I think there might have to be one in my future.
You have great shots and a fabulous sense of humor. Thank you for sharing!
Hi, Jennifer! I would definitely encourage you to do a Solo Trip! And if you want to set up a few PP "meets" while you're down there, it's easy enough to contact PassPorters via this lovely discussion board, and before you know it you've made some new Disney pals.
Honestly though, I never felt "weird" when I was alone -- because nearly everyone you see in the parks is swiveling their head, marveling at something. So it's easy enough to catch someone's eye and start a conversation -- "Wow!" is a great ice breaker, for example.
.
Alison, I hope you appreciate how difficult it is for someone of my proactive nature (Impatience is my middle name), because I am now scanning past ALL the absolutely adorable PhotoPass Pics of your little princess -- and it's about to KILL me. So you'd better post some after you get the CD, OK? Because PassPorters must see Princess Ellie.
So, back to the old broads -- I mean the "young at heart" princesses. I think Sheri and I posed for these right before we met up with Alison & Ellie that Thursday morning. And look -- Tink was dropping a little dust on us!
I don't know why, but I think "I'm a Real Character!' is somewhat appropriate for Skateycat and Cindybelle!
Oh, and here's Dawn (Gray) who joined up with us later that afternoon! I hear they're making a new "Charlie's Angels" for TV -- maybe we should audition for those roles, huh? Now we've got THREE real characters!
And this one was taken AFTER I got blitzed on my Lapu-Lapu -- apparently I sobered up enough once we got to Downtown Disney to keep my eyes open and my back straight -- or did you guys prop me up for these?
OK you said Monday was too cold for shorts . . . when we got in that day, the first thing we did was go to the pool! And thank goodness because that would be the warmest day of the week! YOU GUYS ARE NUTS! MONDAY WAS SOOOOOOOO COLD! THE POOL MUST BE HEATED -- BUT EVEN SO, HOW DID YOU EVER MANAGE TO GET OUT OF IT???
Hey, we were at DHS on Tuesday too, in the rain! Did she make the "Up" skirt? Oh my goodness! How beautiful! NO, SHE BOUGHT THE SKIRT. IF THEY SOLD IT IN ADULT SIZES, WE'D ALL BUY ONE, WOULDN'T WE?
Ellie's BBB dress was beautiful! I think Tiana's is the best one! IT IS ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME NOT TO POST PHOTOPASS PICS OF HER IN THAT DRESS -- TOO, TOO ADORABLE.
We ate at Ohana's on Saturday, it was yummy! And we got to watch the fireworks at MK! So beautiful! HEY, MAYBE WE CAN MEET THERE FOR A MEAL SOMETIME. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE BREAKFAST THERE IN THE FUTURE -- I'VE HEARD TOO MUCH ABOUT TONGA TOAST!
I'm so sorry to hear about Sheri's car trouble, so glad it was quickly resolved. I can't believe she went back to EPCOT, after that trauma I probably would've just gone home! WELL, SHE HAD TO KILL SOME TIME WHILE WAITING FOR HER CAR TO BE FIXED, SO SHE HEADED TO HER "HOME AWAY FROM HOME," WHICH IS DEFINITELY EPCOT -- JUST ASK HER HUSBAND.
I will have to remember about the fireflies at ITTBAB. I'd read on here about the man hanging above you on the HM when the lightning strikes in the stretching room, and remembered to look for it. How creepy! PPers are the best source for info like that! I HEAR YOU, SISTER!
Hey, is that a pic of the bird from Little Mermaid? I love that guy! He is sooo funny! Where is he? In Fantasyland? YES, THAT'S SCUTTLE FROM LITTLE MERMAID -- HE'S ON TOP OF A PAVILION NEAR THE DUMBO RIDE. I'D NEVER NOTICED HIM THERE BEFORE, PROBABLY BECAUSE I'D NEVER RIDDEN DUMBO AND DIDN'T ASCEND TO SUCH HEIGHTS!
So you are doing a TR for your cruise? I was going to ask you! Can't wait to read it!

Hey, we can't all be as "unshy" as Sheri and I -- the world would be way too ! And I hope I AM at WDW the next time you & Ellie are there -- that would be so much fun!

Sheri, I am often desperate for excuses to buy more Goofy stuff, so I very much appreciate you forcing me to buy that one.

Sheri, truer words were never spoken. There are people who enjoy WDW, and then there are us over-the-moon-about-the-Mouse folks with a particular glint in our eyes (and usually a tear just starting to well up). Let's hear it for the Mouseketeers -- past, present, and future!

Yep, we will certainly never grow bored there -- maybe that's why we never grow old there, and certainly why we never grow UP there.

Yep, you've inspired me to do another solo trip. I've contacted my TA and have checked SWA flights. I also have a 6 day park hopper burning a hole in my pocket.
All of your descriptions and pictures of yummy meals are blowing holes in my budget. The scallops from heaven are now on my "must do" list.
Now to break the news to my hubby that I'm going to WDW this year.
Good luck, Lor!

When you "lost" your camera made me think about the time I couldn't find my cellphone...the very one I was talking on ....only I didn't have the excuse of an adult beverage, lol!
Cindy and Sheri, it was great fun to meet you both and look forward to any future meets!
Alison, we had such a great albeit short visit with you, and I am ready to meet up again anytime!

"Soon" being the operative word. I sure hope we can make something happen in October -- so much so that I'm now willing to go down for a few days at the END of that month if it works better for you dahling.

Cindy.....another funny on Ellie......We had been reading Old Mother Hubbard, and she got started discussing how many babies she was going to have when she grows up. She said she wants to have 5 babies when she grows up . I asked her if they were going to be boys or girls...she said girls and she was going to name one Cindy. I asked her if it was after Cinderella, she said noooo Mommy....after my Cindy, that gave me stickers!
LOL!! She is a hoot!
