the EIGHTEEN years, TEARS, CHEERS & Hurricane FEARS TR - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks for the review on the Grey Goose vs Grand Marnier. We have a PP mini-meet scheduled next month to sample both.
Glad everything is looking up.
I hope you enjoy both. I like Grand Marnier, I just didn't like the slushie that much. But definately LOVED the Grey Goose slushie!! That's on my must do list now every time I go!

Sounds like your evening at Epcot was going much better. Can't wait to hear about dinner.

Seems to me you were keeping up the pace pretty well, dear! I was thinking you just need a little practice, but after I read the rest of your post...
I will try the Grey Goose Slushie, next time! I really didn't like the GM Slush that much...
I'll be back in December with my mom. I'll practice some more then... Of course I better make sure she doesn't drink... one glass of wine and I'll be rolling HER home!

I'll Have to tell Alicia to keep her voice softer and maybe DH will focus on the boys instead! Somehow I doubt it though!
I'd always get in trouble more than my brother when we fought, not necessarily because I was louder, but because 1) I'm older and should know better and 2) It's not ladylike to argue and fight. Where's the justice in that? lol.
Great updates. I too loved the Grey Goose but not the Grand Marnier. Its funny though I thought it had way too much alcohol and that's all you could taste. Glad things turned around at Epcot. Can't wait to hear about Marrakkesh. Hurry back.

Maybe I am a lush after all!! Of course I LOVE Grey Goose (don't drink it often as it is just too expensive!!) so it's no surprise I loved the slushie!

August 16th The Day of "Thank Goodness there was No Bloodshed" comes to an end:
Dinner at Marakesh
We found Jeff and Evan waiting for us outside the door of Marakesh and went inside. I had gotten some Slushie on my hand and went into the bathroom to wash it off and by the time I came out they were waiting for me to be seated! Our table was up and to the left against the wall, which was good since the belly dancer was due to come out soon! E veryone ordered drinks and we shared a couple of appetizers:
Beef Brewat Rolls - layers of thin pastry stuffed with seasoned minced beef, fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered
Chicken Bastilla - baked layers of thin pastry stuffed with minced chicken and almonds, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The boys loved them! I wasn’t feeling particularly hungry so I only had a bite. The belly dancer was soon out, but I really couldn’t see her as MY chair was facing the wall. Everyone else got a good glimpse. She dances in the middle of the restaurant and that’s it though. I thought maybe she would have gone over to each side but she stayed right in the center. The little bit I did get to see was interesting. I would love to see it again sometime!
Now they didn’t have Lamb as an entrée here either. It was no longer on their menu, so for you lamb lovers, it’s gone. BUT they did have it as part of something (maybe an appetizer or soup). I didn’t pay much attention because I don’t like lamb. The boys weren’t too disappointed though. Corey got some seafood dish. Jeff got the special (I don’t remember what it was but he LOVED IT!) Alicia had the Chicken and couscous which she DEVOURED! Evan had Beef Shish Kebob – I think. He didn’t eat the whole thing, but Jeff helped him out! I had the lemon chicken which was ok. It wasn’t bad or good. I liked it well enough, but still wasn’t feeling particularly hungry and I thought it was a bit dry. MOST importantly EVERYONE seemed to be in a good mood! And for me that was the BEST part of dinner. Honestly I can’t remember if we had dessert. Alicia would know, but she’s too busy today for me to call and ask her. And I’m too lazy to pull out my receipts and look! I guess if we did, it didn’t impress me much. I was just happy that my decision to cancel Chef Mickey’s was the right one! After dinner we headed back to the hotel and relaxed. Watched some Olympics and just took it easy. Tomorrow is a sleep in day. Everyone was asking about the itinerary and finally figuring out “how to take a vacation”!
Glad you had such a nice time at Marakesh. I'm so happy that everyone was getting along. It's difficult when everyone has different opinions of what they'd like to do. Can't wait to hear more.
All caught back up today!
Great updates. Love your EE pics (I've told my DH that I don't think it's bad so he'll right it with me!--Uh-oh)
And you've gotten some pretty pics of Alicia!
Glad you're last meal was peaceful.

Sunday August 17th
Well after 9am and everyone was still asleep. I was itching to GO! I nudge Alicia to see if she wants to go to DHS with me, but she just rolls over and goes back to sleep. “Just ten more minutes”. After another half hour I try again and she finally decides to get up. We have lunch ADR’s at 50’s Prime Time Café for 12:15. I plan on eating, and whomever shows up can eat with me. Alicia is finally ready and off we go. We find the boat ride over to DHS from the beach club very relaxing. Today is the first REALLY Hot and Sunny day of our trip. I’m actually LOVING it!! Once we got in, we tried to get Fast Passes for Toy Story Midway Mania, but they were all out. And it was only about 10:30 am!! I wanted to find the restaurant before the boys got there, So we stopped kind of in the middle of the road to look at a map. Just then two people dressed in blue shirts came up to us to ask if we needed help. At first I thought they might be dream team members, but sadly they were just regular CM’s trying to keep people clear as they were getting ready to set up for the High School Musical Parade and show. They did help us find what we were looking for so off we went. After that we found a photopass guy and had our picture done. At this point in the trip I was worried I would have to get a refund on my prepaid photopass. So far I had only gotten the test track photos! But there is still time!
We called to make sure the boys were up and on their way, and we had some directionally challenging moments getting Evan to LISTEN. He didn’t want to listen to the directions for getting on the boat to DHS (what is it with men and following directions?). He kept INSISTING it was the boat on the LEFT side of the lighthouse (WRONG!)
Grumpy decided not to participate in the family today. What ever it was that set him off, it was just best to leave him alone. I told him where he could find us if he wanted to eat with us and that was enough. Some alone time for him was probably a good thing. All this family bonding was probably setting his teenage psyche way off wack!
Alicia began doing her panic thing at this point because it was time to check in for lunch and the boys were not there. So we went to check in and I explained to the lovely lady behind the counter that my DH and DS were directionally challenged and we were afraid they got on the wrong boat (headed to Epcot instead of DHS). She told us it wouldn’t be a problem and told me to just let her know when they arrived! Alicia went back down to meet them at the corner by one of the shops so they wouldn’t get lost. I had fun watching the people coming in and getting seated. Part of me thought about getting a drink but I just wasn’t in the mood. The weirdest part about waiting was one of the “rooms” reminded me of Jeff’s mother’s family room. CREEPY. It’s still kind of like that! When they finally arrived, I re-checked us in and pointed out the “room” to Jeff.
Me:“What does that remind you of?”
Jeff:“My Meme’s basement?”
Me: “How about your mother’s basement?”
Jeff: “OMG! YOU’RE RIGHT!”
We were seated pretty quickly and cousin Jeanne took care of us. There was a little bit of banter, but not too much - I'd say just about right!. Alicia and I had turkey sandwiches and honestly we should have shared ONE! There was enough meat on one sandwich that I could have made myself sandwiches for a week! I will definitely eat here again, but only if my meal companions are willing to share a meal! We shared onions rings to start and those were YUMMY! Evan had a shake which filled him up before he even got started. I don't remember what Jeff had, but he finished his plate!
After lunch Jeff had to use the bathroom. Now WHY he didn’t go when we were IN the restaurant I’ll never understand but anyway… We find a bathroom and head over to the Great Movie Ride. This was our first time on this ride and we got the Cowboy. I didn’t realize what a big deal it was until I read about people who always get the Gangster. I guess next time I’ll have to hope for the gangster! I really didn’t take many pictures which I’m kind of disappointed but I did get this one:
We all liked the ride. I thought some of it was kind of lame, but it was a nice relaxing place to let lunch digest and to get out of the heat.
After the GMR, we headed over to TSMWM and hit the single rider line which thankfully was open! The first part of the wait wasn’t too long, but once we hit the stairs we hit a problem….
Up next my DH goes to speak to a CM, gets brushed off, gets angry and …

Great update! Glad you all had a nice evening on Saturday! FYI if you are looking for the lamb entrees, they do have them at the Moroco counter service place. I had the lamb there on Monday the 18th. More please!
