Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!

Tuesday 25 April – part seven: getting very goofy in the hotel lobby!

Our tour of the resort complete, we went into the Fantasia shop, so that I could buy a top that I had been eyeing up for the past couple of days – and I’m glad I did, as I’ve had a lot of wear out of it. It’s been a good investment.

We then went to sit in the lobby and that’s where we had a really magical time. As we walked in, we saw Goofy wandering around just doing a casual meet and greet. He sat down in front of the TV at one point to watch the cartoons and posed with kids and even for me when he saw the camera. Mark was reading his book and Goofy asked him to read to him, but every time he did, Goofy kept dozing off in boredom. He was great fun!

He noticed I was writing a couple of postcards and grabbed them off me and signed them, which was a nice surprise for the people they were going to. I’m not sure they’ll believe me when they see that I’d written that Goofy just turned up in the hotel lobby and signed them though! He also signed my trip report book, which was rapidly becoming a character autograph book in its own right.

With a few final photos, it was finally time to go and get the bags from bell services and the car from valet and then we were off to the airport, bidding a sad farewell to Disneyland. We had had a great time here, but knowing what I know now, I would never visit on a weekend again and I would also allow at least three full days for a first visit. There is a lot more to see and do here than you might at first realise and don’t write off the California Adventure. We loved this park. The theming was incredible.

What I would like to see more of is Walt Disney World and Disneyland working together to take on board the best ideas that each one has to offer. Disneyland could learn from Photopass, single riders line and putting charging privileges on to your room. Walt Disney World could learn about payment for character meals up front and from the theming of the rides and the Disneyland Hotel. We need something like that in Orlando that pays tribute to Disney’s rich history.

Would I come back? If we are ever out this way (and I hope we will be) then yes, although I do feel like we made a good attempt to see everything we could just in case we don’t make it back. I’m glad we went during the 50th anniversary celebration. Remember was out of this world and seeing the golden ride vehicles and the happiest faces on earth was quite something. Every Disney fan does need to visit this park just the once as it’s the only one that Walt ever lived to see open and that certainly made it feel very special for me.

Our journey to the airport didn’t take very long at all, the traffic all seemed to be going the other way, into Los Angeles, which we found a bit odd, as we were expecting it to be the other way around. We weren’t complaining though. We handed the car back and searched it carefully just in case the autograph book was in there. It wasn’t.

We grabbed our cases and headed into the terminal, stopping to change into our jeans on the way, as it was getting colder outside and would no doubt be colder still when we landed in San Francisco. While getting my jeans out from one of the cases, what did I find but the autograph book. Well at least we had it!

We checked our bags in and all were under the 50 lbs weight limit. Thank goodness for the suitcase scales we had brought just before our vacation, we had been able to check them all in the hotel room this morning before leaving, so we knew that we were reasonably safe on that front.

There was no line for security, but for once we did get stopped for having the laptop in our bag. In our defence, there were no signs saying that you had to take it out and every airport is different. Once that was checked, we were through and headed to our gate.

Next: how much to get into the city?

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!

Just to let you know that this will be the last update in this thead. I will be putting the next installment into the Globetrotting forum in a new thread, so keep an eye out for that, as the San Francisco and Yosemite installment of this report is still to come! Cheryl - So glad you found your autograph book! I would love to see DL again one of these days. I was last there about 25 years ago. Guess it's time to plan another visit.

Looking forward to hearing all about San Francisco - one of my favorite cities.

I have your TR. I am so looking forward to our upcoming trip to DLR. I have so many things planned and there is so much to do. We won't be going into San Francisco, so I look forward to what you have to hear what you have to say about that.

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!

I just LOVED hearing more about the place I cut my Disney teeth at! Wonderful! We too stayed at the Disneyland Hotel but of course, it has changed tremendously and it was so lovely to see the changes with both you pictures and your descriptions. I also started to develop my taste for fine food there, eating at my first fine restaurant in the hotel (not that I remember the name! LOL).

Now you are heading to SF - my home away from home - where my mother still lives! I'm so excited - oh and to see pictures of Yosemite. I lived for 2 years about 1-1/2 away from Yosemite - quite beautiful!

I really need to take my family to DL so they can enjoy it as well.

BTW - Matterhorn is one of my FAVORITE rides!
