From no trip to celebrating 20 years together… planning it all in less than 100 days! COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM 7/24 - Page 12 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Well that's a bummer you didn't sleep well, but whenever that happens don't we all usually sleep better the next night? Hoping so!
Good morning so far, breakfast looks perfect! Hoping all the people get off so you guys can have some nice quiet time.
Poor Stitch!

Just getting caught up! More beautiful pictures from the ship! Glad you enjoyed Tiana's and the Frozen show! Sorry the spa was so busy and not relaxing! Good news you were able to dock at CC!!
After all the captain's warnings, how nice to wake and find you were able to dock at CC! That really is one of my favorite spots, and although I find the idea of a near empty ship appealing, I wouldn't be able to pass up going on to shore. I just love sitting on a chair in the water at Serenity Bay - or finding a shady hammock later in the day when people have started to return to the ship. Paradise!
Reading this is making me want to take another cruise! It sounds like things are going well despite the high winds. Tiana's Place looked great, and the Frozen show sounds spectacular. Yup, I need to take another cruise!

You see, we're just not beach people and nearly every time we visit, it's just too hot for us, no matter what time of the year we seem to visit. We keep going more and more towards the winter months and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Ah well, the latter option wouldn't work for me, and if you've seen me attempt to get into a hammock, you'd know why.

Well, you have a good idea of where to find us on Disney cruises next year...

We always get like that too if we don't have one planned...
Sorry to hear that you had a bad night's sleep with your cough. It does amaze me how men can sleep through so much noise. Looking forward to hearing about your day on the ship while most guests left for Castaway Cay!
Tuesday 7 March – part two: can we still get in there?
We made our way out of Cabana’s…
… and headed up to deck 10, where Palo’s located…
Now that was a mistake, as we saw the dinner menu, and it’s changed significantly since our last meal here. I immediately started to point out dishes I’d like, and Mark pointed out we weren’t going to be having dinner there. Oops… Ok, it looks like that decision could be a bit of a mistake then…
We headed out to the aft of deck 10 to get some more views over Castaway Cay…
… and then made our way along the deck…
The wind was still really gusty, and I was in a light, but long sleeved sweatshirt, with the hood up to protect me, which gives you an idea of how bad it was. We saw one of the personal trainers from the spa, just laying on a lounger. Apparently she had the day off, and we asked her if she was going to go on to the island, and like us, she wasn’t. She was planning on taking advantage of a quiet day on board instead. Sounds good to me!
Look how quiet the adult pool was when we got there!
That does it, we need to spend some time there…. However, first we found the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
And then there was that matter of Palo… had we just missed out and was it now far too late to get in for dinner? Oh well, there was only one way to find out. We took the elevator down to deck three, and for the first time, the Cadillac Lounge was open, so I was able to get some photos of it…
We walked through After Hours…
… and headed to guest services to enquire about Palo. We ended up behind two girls, who we honestly didn’t know if they had parents. One of them walked up to her mother, and slapped her mother so hard on the arm, we felt it, if you know what I mean! We were shocked, as there’s no way I’d have dared to have done that when I was young. The mother didn’t even bat an eyelid.
We were put through to the Palo entry podium, and told to leave a message, and I left the nicest, sweetest message I could in the hope that might help our chances… fingers crossed!
With that, we headed back to the room, enduring the elevator ride from you know what with the two girls and their parents…. I was very glad to get out at deck seven, let’s just put it that way.
When we got back to the room, we had a bit of a shock when we found this outside our room!
After a bit of downtime in the room, we headed over to the adult pool. There were about half a dozen people sunning themselves, and no-one at all in the pool, so I got in, and swam 30 lengths, before getting out to join Mark in the hot tub.
Eventually we figured we’d better get out. Again, the wind was brisk, but not as bad as it had been earlier, which I felt was at least a promising sign… hopefully! We headed to our loungers, and I lathered up with suntan lotion, as I was not risking burning. I’ve had windburn before, and it can be worse than sunburn.
It’s just as well I did, as the sun kept moving round, until my whole right half was in sunlight. I had to re-apply, and then I just covered myself up with a towel. Mark made a comment that he never thought he’d see the day when I was out relaxing on a lounger on a cruise ship in the sun, and he’s right. It really doesn’t happen, and this is why – I burn far too easily.

Fingers crossed that your nice message does the trick and you can have dinner at Palo. It's after the fact now, but in the future, the other person I've had help we with that is the dining room supervisor - or whatever his title is, the guy you tip, but who doesn't seem to do much other than stop by to say hello each night.
We've actually had it arranged to just go up for dessert - chocolate soufflé of course!

Yes, that's how we feel about those guys too. Good to know they're useful for something....

Oh wow - that's neat! Did you still have to pay the cover charge?
